[News] Late For Work 12/2: Time To Acknowledge John Harbaugh Doing Fantastic Job

66 posts in this topic

Jernigan deserves the credit for the sack, but you can see that the Upshaw shove accelerated McCown to the ground. If you look at the video you also see that Upshaw took more than 2 steps before he hit McCown. Luckly, the refs were not flag-happy on Monday and they did not call a PF for roughing the passer.

@TonyQuintino...they are trying things out to see what they have in terms of players... trying new packages isn't far fetched.. Coverage has never been his strong suit.. but to be fair cover LB's aren't exactly a dime a dozen and you would be lucky to have one on each team in the league... Orr isn't terrible in coverage.. Mosley for athletic as he struggles in that area.. that would be one area he can improve in the off season..

good point, Upshaw's shove might have done the real damage.

I agree Harbs is one of the best. Only shortcoming if it is one is that his picks for coaches leads to constant change. And that tends to upset the apple-cart each season. But that may/may not be his fault.

Stating the goal of hitting McCown or any other player in any football game isn't to try and hurt is absurd. We all know football is a contact sport and contact with the objective of putting a players knee, elbow, rear-end or other legally-down body part on the turf as quickly as possible to minimize yardage gain. The only way to make football injury free is to make it touch football. And who would watch? You think we watch football without the bone-cracking hits? I think not.

I love this team. I've been saying for weeks that there's just no quit in them. I see lack of skill/talent sometimes. I see mistakes quite often. I never see lack of effort.

as long as it was a legal hit isn't the goal to hit the opposing team as hard as possible? Nobody is glorifying him being hurt but the goal is to cream the guy as hard as possible, and Jernigan did a good job of doing that within the rules. Sorry but that's football. Those who don't like it can go play tiddly winks or volleyball.

The goal isn't for the hit to be legal; the goal is to minimize injuries. It's in the caption underneath the headline: "Jernigan knocks out 3rd QB" which further illustrates this point. Jernigan performed a legal sack and should be commended for it. But don't (admittedly it's a subtle glorification) glorify that Jernigan just broke another player's collar-bone. You (the media) can't be sorry about the noble cause "concussions and the importance of avoiding injuries" and then glorify Jernigan for breaking another player's collar-bone in the same breath. It's a double standard.

I see what your saying- it's always been a controversial subject and there's a thin line between praising the hit and glorifying an injury. It is what it is though and that's just football

Harbaughs brilliance??? Lets not get carried away after one win.

Now if the Ravens were to somehow make the playoffs without Joe and Suggs,Sr,Forsett etc and win a game... thats Harbaugh brilliance. Getting the most or more out of the talent on the roster.

If the team goes 6-10,7-9... thats nothing impressive

what happened on the TD for the Browns where Will Hill supposedly messed up was Pees called a corner blitz and Webb wasn't available to cover the WR. As soon as I seen Webb go in I yelled NOOOOOO.

Jernigan has taken out 3 QBs? He probably has tallies on his wall at home, or scratch marks in his helmet... Pretty soon we'll be calling him "Terminator" Jernigan lol

I've been saying John Harbaugh is the best HC Every year since he came to the ravens.

I'd love to see him retire as a Raven, become a Gm some day, who knows. I know he's going to win more superbowls , I trust you John harbaugh, Achieve Greatness!! You're the greatest.

If there's one thing you can say about John Harbaugh, it's that he is relentlessly positive. You never hear any dissing of the team, threatening to bench the QB, no morose-ness even in the face of every darn thing that can go wrong, going wrong. He's the one I'd want with me on a sinking ship. Nuff said.

Have to disagree (but not neg). It is not the record that he is being "Fantastic" for, it's the rare feat of keeping a football ball team positive when all odds are against you, it's playing hard to the last seconds of the game and so on. Coaching. Now if the record ends up 6-10 or 7-9 and ALL games are still 1 score games...That's still impressive and a Fantastic job. Considering.

Wow, just wow...I was about to lose faith in the coaching staff, and after Monday Football, Harbs and his coaching staff earn my respect and my apology for being such butt fan. The whole Ravens organization is such class act; I thought Steve would step in and do something about it or anything instead he went quiet and let his trusted Head coach do the job. Great respect all around from top to bottom of the Ravens management team.....

I forgot which player Harbs said was screaming "we will never give up!" when Hill was running down the sideline, but that does say a lot. This team did not give up at Mile High during the playoffs and it did not give up in the Super Bowl. Win, lose, or draw this team fights and that is evident how close the scores are in losses. This team rarely ever gets embarrassed by blowouts. I get disappointed and frustrated when we lose, I am human :), but I too love this team.

John Harbaugh is Stonewall Jackson. Jackson led his ragtag troops through one major battle after another. They followed him as their beloved leader. It seems even with insurmountable odds, injuries and cheating refs, the players rally around Harbaugh and fight to win.

I've been on this thread talking about next year and the importance of reloading some high draft picks to reap the benefits of rookie contracts under the salary cap. However, Monday's game demonstrated that the team can also reload on another attribute - belief. When Flacco went down, the team became complete underdogs, the story of the season changed. It went from disappointment to young guys and waived guys looking for a shot. If they win out, the team would lose the statistical advantage of picks, but they would head into the offseason feeling like a team that was robbed of a season (eleven games decided in basically eleven minutes worth of kicks). It would be fuel a hunger in the team and the fan base that could make next season scary. The Ravens and Baltimore are always best as underdogs that believe in themselves.

"Harbaugh" and "brilliance" in the same sentence is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today. This team was touted as a Super Bowl FAVORITE at the beginning of the season. They were well out of the race when most of the injuries occurred. If he could ever teach his coaches/team how to hold a lead they would have at least been in the AFC championship game last year. If the players are still fighting it's because that's who they are as players, not because of some RAH-RAH college nonsense. His methods are detrimental to players' health and his message has gotten stale. Either he needs to adapt or he need to go.

Harbs can lead a team, and he is a proven motivator. The only thing I'd like to see improve is his choice of coordinators and getting a group together that can win in our division and in with our talent.

Darryl Smith isn't as fast as others, but his instincts are money. If they're truely looking for quickness they should start playing Arthur Brown in nickel packages. Why is he even active, if they are not letting him play. I doubt that Orr's better than Brown. Orr overran some plays or played the wrong gap.

Here, here!  Just hope it turns out better in the end for John than for Stonewall

Jernigan definitely cracked McCown, but I think it was the extra push by Upshaw that caused that momentum which broke McCown's collar bone.

I'm still looking forward to next season, but I love how the Ravens are keeping this tough mentality. Half of our roster is in the hospital and we are still grinding every team we play. This season may be lost, but it is a big time growth season for this young team going forward.

I mean with the lack of talent on this team it sorta is...

If I objectively looked at the offensive personnel on this team, I'd expect a 3-4 win season max.

djk987: It certainly will. But then again John could bus the team down to Chancellorsville next time out on a battlefield excursion rather than Gettysburg.

Jernigan's tackle was true to form. Just lovely!! How bout that block by Urban just huge effort! Never say die, keep your head to sky! Be Optimistic!!!

Jernigan is getting the credit, but the heavy hands of Courtney shoving the QB to the ground did the damage to his collar bone. When Upshaw lays hand on opponents they feel it!
