The good, bad and ugly vent thread week 12 Browns

Even though i would love to see us get a top 5 pick i think in the long run and scheme of things a win will help the team over all as confidence plays such a huge factor in any athletes performance. With that being said, i hope this momentum keeps going and we can play 500 ball from here on out.

Move Webb to FS as he just looks more comfortable there and it seems that he has lost his tackling technique. I used to love it before as i knew if he got a hand on you he would tackle you but for some reason he lost that.

I also think our biggest need is along the O'line. If we can buy Joe more time we can not only control the tempo and clock but get back to running the ball as well. I think that should be a priority over the defense. To me a true #1 corner and a solid safety would go a long way on defense but we need Joe healthy and we need to be a run first team.

1-Yes!!  We absolutely do not need a top 5 pick. How many of these have actually flamed out for other teams and yes we do need to win for the players we have now to play good ball just mainly for confidence and momentum. We can get a great player at #8 or #11 wherever.

2- We need a ballhawk and Webb is our best one imo. Ive been pounding the gavel on this for quite awhile. So many other CBs that have aged and lost some skill have made a seamless transformation in the past. Ex Rod Woodson from the past and Charles Woodson from today.

3- Its not the OLine mainly but Trestman's coordinating. He's pass happy and that's absolutely not going to change. Check out his past history and I disagree defense is where we gotta go.

Josh McCown is done for the season with a broken collarbone.

He showed some serious toughness throwing a ball with a broken clavicle.

Statment and fan like yourself is the reason why we pay a mediocre QB 120m for no reason. Joe isnt any special. He is slightly better and definately replaceable. While fans like yourself will be contempt with pay a dud QB 28mill next year, i'd rather move on and get my team back on track.

Seriously dude, your hatred of Flacco is well noted. In a year where 99% of our issues are defense, where we need some quality skill positions, you think the SMART thing to do would be to scrap our franchise guy - who has set records for wins, post season wins and making the playoffs- and waste our rare top pick on a gamble at QB? Because if there were better options than Flacco floating around the league now, all those QB hungry teams would have swallowed them up by now.

Please.

This is why i love these forums. Varying perspectives. I was just thinking O'line because of cap reasons.. Good defensive players always seems to be a great deal more expensive and it would be more cost effective to repair the holes.

In your opnion friend why is Jimmy Smith so stiff when in motion. When the recetver breaks a route i see Jimmy either just fall or have a very hard time recovering while others seem fluid. Is it his size, I keep thinking hips and feet as turning on the run is a challenge for him.

For anyone who is curious, Wright had a +2.6 grade and the eighth best coverage grade of the week. The three corners combined for a +5.1 grade overall.

He's really played well since his first disaster of a game. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'd actually be interested in re-signing him. If this is the real Shareece Wright, we could do a lot worse for a 3rd or 4th CB.

Wright is just a player to watch at this point. Not like we've gone up against good teams. If he dies good in the Seahawks game we can start to talk.

We had the same premature reaction to Melvin last year.

Or Marlon Brown in 2013 although Wright has been around longer than both

The Good: Clay's punt return!!! (I forgot to mention it in earlier posts)

That started the 'swag' train. When that happened I said to my self, "The train has left the station." and knew it woke-up that 'Play like a Raven' thing for the whole team. When you exploit the other team's most proficient unit and their strength (Browns's Special Teams ranked highest) you have made a powerful statement. "We are here!"

Thanks for posting. I've got to give you BIG points for even attempting to explain coverages, schemes, etc. as they relate to performance ratings on this forum.  You're definately well versed, but I can see that it's going to take a minute. So, keep it up. This forum needs it.

I used to play safety and nickel back way back yonder and I can tell you it is far more complex in the NFL, especially with Pees.

I'm just glad to see the secondary has really stepped up since the bye

I think Urban will do the same thing elite DEs do when it is 2,100 degrees outside and burn to death.

Hey...  Did anybody notice (and they haven't removed it in the video's either)...  as Hill runs through the endzone there is a Brown's fan with orange gloves on flipping Will the Double Bird?  I didn't notice it until yesterday.  I was too busy watching OUR players.

lisfranc. tough injury for any positions that involves lots of planting and exploding motions, jimmy is playing way short of 100% right now because of that injury, next season he should progress quite a bit, and the following season he should be back to 100% again, barring any setbacks. its just a really limiting injury that takes a lot of recovery time.

this. rotating coverages with an unreliable FS and no pass rush. so frustrating...

This team has "no quit" in their vocabulary.  We set an NFL record tonight by winning a game on a blocked FG taken to the end zone for a TD with no time left on the clock!    You gotta love our guys!!!

This game will carry over into next season with a lot of good lessons for our young team...you never give up, perseverance and good work pays off in the end!

Great week of football... B*ady gets frustrated, the Patriots lose, and the Ravens get a win and set a new NFL record!  Love it! :P

Steelers lost too.

I've noticed the improvement as well. It seems that we're still vulnerable in the short-mid seam largely due to speed, recognition and reaction in LB coverage, but those problems are the same for most of the league. These offensive passing schemes are getting more and more exotic with bigger, faster and stronger receivers with rules designed to insure successful more outcomes for the receivers. It's slanted. If we just can continue to improve at a 'bend-don't-break' coverage scheme with this personnel we will stay competitive.

The linebackers have been a sore spot for a secondary that is really improving.

I will say, even Kendrick Lewis is playing better. He's not playing great by any stretch, but he's at least been flat out average since the bye week, and it's really showing how much of a difference that can make.

And you are definitely correct, I'd say, in that offenses are just getting way bigger, faster, stronger and they're utilizing a new breed of slot receivers (and tight ends) that linebackers just can't hang with. Players like Myles Jack and Jaylon Smith are about to be a new age of linebackers.

Yeah coverage linebackers who can hang with TEs are going to be in serious demand. Shame Arthur Brown hasn't worked out in that area for us

I feel like he'd be too small, though. He's not very big, at all

Orr seems to be developing that role, but it isn't there, yet.

Great points. I think what we need to understand more as a fan-base is that there will never be a game were multiple balls won't get caught by the opposing team. The game has been re-engineered to ensure that this doesn't ever happen. That said, as our LBs and DBs have continued to progress in disguising c overages, minimizing yardage gained per catch, big play opportunities and adjusting to opposing personnel we have come closer to a 'bend not break' passing defense. That's something to be encouraged about. We can be competitive with that. There are very few passing 'shut-down' defenses left, if any.

This is probably the thing that annoys me the most- most quarterbacks will complete about 50% of their passes in any given game and they'll likely throw 20-40 balls in a game. People get so worked up over one catch. With the way the rules are set up, you're lucky if you only allow like 10 completions. Get over it.
