[News] Ravens-Seahawks Flexed Out Of Sunday Night Football

49 posts in this topic

The rescheduling of the game seems to give us an advantage, kind of like us getting a prime time game on the West Coast would give them a slight advantage. I guess we should not complain. I may be in the minority but I love 1pm east coast games. I am ready for football as soon as possible on Sunday! Even though I am not a fan of playing in London, I like the fact that I can watch football very early :)

I'll pass judgment after tonight.

In 2001 when we lived in California, games came on at 10:05.  People were actually in the bars out there watching games that time of the morning.  We lived outside San Diego.  There was a place called Stadium Pizza.  It was a kind of sportsbar, and you couldn't find a seat at 9:30.

Monday nights can't be flexed ... otherwise, they probably would.

huh, didnt know that.

but that makes sense now that i think about it: the monday game is the only one ESPN gets, they dont have anything to switch it with.

I think the restriction here is a matter of logistics. It is much harder to moving staff, teams and all the arrangements from Sunday to Monday, rather than just a later Sunday game.

Who cares? Right now it is about next years draft and the projected salary cap. If Joe restructures his contract we are sitting pretty. I expect the Ravens to do what is best for the future. Why not?

Correct. Only games that can be flexed play on that day. They can't flex games between days... only games that play on that day.

Logistical nightmare to move date of a game.

All good either way it was actually going to be televised here and I wouldn't have had to use my lousy Sunday Ticket Streaming. Not sure how DirecTV does such a bad job streaming football yet NBC and NFL Network seem to get it multi-times better.

Don't expect us to be in great shape against the cap either. We will have space, but it won't be a gigantic amount, even with a solid cap reduction for Joe's deal.

Good, we play better at 1 anyway.

not really.

we own the 3rd best record in the league (since 2008) in prime time at 18-8.

Our first win of this season was in prime time.

This is going to be embarrassing, so glad they moved it. The team is done until next year. Hopefully we can get some better talent and better coaching and get back to being RAVENS again. And What good is a high First or second round pick if the picks are going to be injured and can't play for two - three years.

I originally wanted a night game and was holding hope up until last minute. I was at first upset about being flexed out. But then realized an early game might be the best thing after all. Especially in cold Dec. I don't understand why ppl here are saying we deserve to be flexed out...we always put on a good show and keep scores in games close...no one blows us out. We are interesting to watch each and every time (Flacco era) we take the field. So, we are a competitive match up no matter who we play year after year...we've been consistently this way. That's why I'm guessing they gave us 5 prime time games originally. We still lived up to our ability of close games this year...the flex is only because our record and loss of star power draw. But we don't deserve to be flexed based on how close we stay in game scoring to our opponents. If the Texas/Pats game is a blow out...then SNF gets what it deserves by bailing on us. But...I'm happy for the day game regardless now that I've accepted it.

Ravenshine, you make very excellent points!

"Can we just flex this season out?"

I'll call Roger. It's worth a try. By the way this MNF against the Browns has been flexed out indefinitely. New date TBD.

Agreed.  To add, for the most part all of the prime time games we've had - we've played well (win or lose). They were some of the most talked-out games the next day. I'm not so surprised by the flex move as I am by the totally lazy effort by so-called NFL insiders, reporters and advertisings experts to present a narrative to promote the MNF game tonight. That's amazing especially when your money and brand is at stake. Watched several shows today and nobody had anything to say (ESPN, NFL Network, FirstTake, etc.)

For true football fans (no matter what team you cheer for) you're going to watch prime-time games regardless. What else is going on? So what if it's 2 teams that don't feature a Manning, Odell or Romo? It's football! There's always a narrative if you just have the critical and creative thinking to apply yourself.

Lazy thinking creates a sub-par product. Shame. The NFL can't function without an 'over-used' hastag, lately?

edit - typos. It must be close to game-time.

Thank you cobrajet...nice that we see the same. One day the NFL world will give this team the credit it deserves.

What really sucks is this will probably still end up being a really good game regardless of the records or implications. Was really looking forward to this one before the season started... And still am.

nah, lets not kid ourselves. Schaub couldnt hold it together against the worst defense in the league to night, he's going to give Seattle at least 12 points.

probably so but we will still manage to find a way to keep it close like usual. We may not have a qb but Can't say we don't have heart.
