Very Rough, Way too Early (or Just on Time...) 2016 Mock Draft V1.0

30 posts in this topic

As the title suggests: This mock is hastily done and is rough. I usually give more in depth explanations of each pick but I just had to get my Mock Draft fix quickly...I don't try to project trades, they are next to impossible to accurately predict and I don't want my mock, even this one, to hinge on a trade that in all likelihood will not happen. Also leaving out Comps for now, just not doing the research to even give it a shot at the moment. Of course this is very early and shouldn't be taken too seriously, players will rise, others will fall, what we talk about now is not going to be what we talk about come the offseason. Grains of salt ready! lets just say for this mock we'll be picking somewhere between 3 and 6.

Round 1 - Vernon Hargreaves III / CB / Florida

I'm not on the Bosa bandwagon but I think he'll be gone regardless by the time we pick. With the Titans possibly picking above us and a couple other teams vying for the top 3 that are set at QB, like the Chargers, I don't think he'll be available. Our consolation prize comes in the form of the best CB in the draft by a long shot, I see Ramsey as a safety first and think VHIII is better at CB. Solid size at 5'11" 190+ lbs and is just a polished monster as a DB, day 1 this guy will be a nightmare for opposing QBs opposite Jimmy with Webb in the slot (if he's still around, which I suspect he will be).

Round 2 - Shilique Calhoun / OLB / Michigan State

Round 3 - Vonn Bell / S / Ohio State

Round 4 - Sterling Shepard / WR / Oklahoma

Round 4 (via Broncos) - Spencer Drango / OT / Baylor

Round 6 - Malcolm Mitchell / WR / Georgia

Id say just on time. Itd be a blessing to get those first 3.

I will reserve judgment on Calhoun for now since I don't have a complete picture; however, the games I've seen his first step rivals Upshaw.

Had a real hard time with that second pick, I'm not a huge Calhoun fan either but I don't think Boyd will be available at WR and I like none of the Olineman that are projected to be available at the moment. I originally had Nassib but I think theres a real possibility he'll be gone too.

Do something we haven't done which made us a team that was respected for scouting and coaching..find an adalius thomas ..we are due a pro bowl calibre OLB ...so find him..1st 2nd or 6th round!

ive never seen an edge rusher so consistently being the very last one off the snap, he better know how to beat up on OT's twice his size because he wont be winning in the NFL with that kind of first step.

Absolutely love the 1st pick, Vernon Hargreaves is pretty much my favorite player in this draft, I think coming into the draft he is the best player in the draft, just love his game. I think he's the real deal and in almost any draft  you can argue that he is a top 10 pick.

I have to say, in my limited time watching Calhoun I didn't come away impressed. His first step is pretty troubling, I mean when you see a guy that athletic and lean for an OLB, you would expect him to be explosive of LOS, but instead he seems like the last person off the LOS. I haven't seen too much of him, but I'm just not a fan.

Not particularly, from what I've seen he does awful against bull rushes and doesn't get much push in the run game. Maybe if he's available at the top of the 4th we can take a look but any earlier I'd pass unless we're looking at him to switch to guard, even then I wouldn't go high second for him. As far as tackles go, Le'Raven Clark from TTech and Spriggs from Indiana are two to look at if we trade back in the second, but both are developmental and no one in my opinion is worth a high second unless someone falls, which of course can easily happen.

No doubt, but I don't like him as a pick. I'd rather take anyone else in that group at that point. I just don't think he's that good.

Agreed. Couldn't agree more, actually, on either point. Ogbah is a really nice prospect who has a lot of upside but still needs development but the raw tools are there. That isn't to say he's raw, either. He'd like a mix of Suggs and Ansah imo. Edited by GrimCoconut

I've only seen little of Lawson but he's got a nice first step.

Bottom line is I'd trade up for an impact pass rusher if they start to fly. I don't want us to be stuck.

not a fan of taking WR in the later part of the draft,

they never work out , if we go WR, then it should be in the 1st or 2nd round, of course this is all predicated on where we draft in each round. my 2 cents

yeah i wouldnt call ogbah raw, i can understand that point of view as he is a pretty physically dominant guy, but he has a pretty firm grasp on football in general, good with his hands, respectably quick feet, id like to see him play with his hips lower, but overall i think he looks like a guy who comes in and plays well in both the run and the pass and he also looks like the most likely of the DE prospects to convert to an all out OLB, he appears to be suited well to drop into coverage with some coaching.

Something tells me Ogbah is the Odell Beckham Jr of this year's draft. The guy everyone thinks will slide under the radar and goes top-10, lol.

I know it may sound typical but Hargreaves is my guy this year. I just think with our SOS later on this year we'll find ourselves picking in the top 7 where I think Hargreaves will be at. I'm crossing my fingers he's there for us.

Hargreaves is my top guy this year, we should build the secondary. You seen the results of the past with the secondary and injuries to the unit.

so what scenario could play out that allows us to take hargreaves? lets say were picking 8th, that will likely leave the titans, chargers, browns, niners, dolphins, cowboys, jags, saints, and the eagles as teams that are in contention to pick ahead of us, the top 5 would likely be the titans, browns, chargers, niners, and im gonna guess dolphins to round it out because they are a dumpster fire. for starters, i dont see hargreaves falling past miami unless tunsil or bosa is there. so if we are separated from the top 5 by some combination of the niners, cowboys, jags, saints, eagles, and dolphins, there isnt a single team there that you can feel confident about passing on hargreaves, niners or the cowboys could take a qb but then again they very well may not, so the safest way for us to get VH is for the niners and cowboys to both pick out of the top 5 but ahead of us and both of them take a qb, and hope that miami doesnt finish ahead of us, because of all the remaining teams that will be in the 4-12/5-11 logjam, i think hargreaves is probably the very top guy on their list outside of the top 5.

we wont get him if we win another game, just by looking at the teams who are gonna be in this logjam with us it is very difficult to say he falls past the 4-12 teams, however i do believe there is only one team in the mix with a weaker SOS than us and they are fighting for first in the nfc east, so if we do finish 4-12 that puts us at an advantage, but at 5-11 we fall behind a logjam and have virtually zero chance of getting hargreaves.
