Charles James is a starter...

I don't understand why we never gave this kid a chance to play for us. He's a starter for the Texans already. I feel like we don't use our players to the best of their ability or even give certain guys an opportunity to see the field and show what they got. How do you all feel about this?

We're the Ravens. We have awful coaches. That's how I feel about this...

this again falls on coaches,, evaluate and put players in the best position to win. the RAVENS have the best special teams in the nfl, why is that? if they can not play special teams then what they are of no use, did you see C.J Mosley out there on kick off team. last week why did we deactivate  certain players ,

He's only started in one game, right? That was against the Jets?

I'm not sure how he looked. I haven't watched that game or much NFL games outside the Ravens this year. I've been way too busy. I will say that it's not fair to say he's a miss by the coaches without getting a better sample size. One game doesn't make a superstar, else Will Davis & Rashaan Melvin are all-pros.

You wanna know why he got the start? Because Kareem Jackson and A.J. Bouye were injured. Even then, he was only the third cornerback in the rotation, behind Kevin Johnson and Jonathan Joseph. He's currently listed as SIXTH on the depth chart, behind those four mentioned and Darryl Morris.

So, in short, don't get your panties in a bunch.

Apparently he's graded out decently by PFF, but he's also playing with a defense that features JJ Watt, Whitney Mercilus (who's had a really good stretch of games since James started playing), and Jadeveon Clowney (who posted a career best PFF grade in his last game). He's got a pass rush and the luxury of being the third corner against lesser receivers.

Sometimes it's just a matter of numbers. At the time he was released, he was buried on the depth chart. In simple words, we just can't keep everyone who "has potential". We have to try to choose the 53 based on covering all 25 positions of need.

Gotta give players a chance (I bet he's climbed the depth chart already). Especially with how our season has gone.

He's only played like a game in a half I think, but he played really well for a guy getting his first in-game action in basically his whole career. You gotta give him credit even though the DL is decent too. Let's just see how he does these next couple of games.

The season wasn't "over" at the time we released him.  He was the 7th CB on the depth chart at the time.

Wasn't over, but wasn't looking good. He should've been higher on the depth chart though. If guys like Tray Walker aren't even "ready to play" as people say then a guy like James who had some experience in the league and showed potential should've been further up there.

He's at sixth on the Texans depth chart from what I saw today

Who cares about depth chart... All I'm saying in this thread is that the guy got his chance to play and he showed up and played really well for a young guy like himself. I just hate when players never get a chance or aren't put in a position to succeed.

Are they the same Texans who cut him because of certain deficiencies in himself and his performances?

Well, considering the depth chart is generally based on who's playing better than who and who will start over who, it's good to care about them to a degree. And it is notable that he is the SIXTH and last one on that depth chart.

Yeah, playing 67% of those snaps and making JJ Watt the best defensive player in the NFL.

I know the depth chart is meaningful, but it does not always mean that the player above is better. For example, on our team, Marlon Brown has been in a starting spot on the depth chart and I will bet that every receiver on this team is better than him.

He's actually listed as fourth behind Aiken, Givens, and Butler.

He is now maybe, but he's been above Givens and Butler for a while. Don't even try to argue about this one.

It's true that he was above Givens while he tried to learn the offense (it isn't easy to just get traded and instantly supplant players above you), but as for Butler, he was on the PS and supplanted Marlon near immediately.

Just like Charles James, got a chance and proved that he can play well so far.

At the moment, Charles James is not a starting quality corner in the NFL, regardless of what his twitter handle says. He is borderline 53 player and got this shot at Houston because of injuries to other players.

He's at least shown that he belongs on a team and we'll see these next couple weeks if he can keep ballin. He might eventually become a full-time starter, you never know.

Who knows - he might but our coaches obviously like other guys better (including Will Davis, Julian Wilson).

Bad coaching, loyalty to "our guys" and never giving a guy like James a fair shake. As we've lost coaches to other teams over the years the overall quality has taken a big hit. We are terrible at maximizing the players we do have at a lot of positions.

Big reason why I feel like we need to clean house this offseason and get rid of everyone besides Harbs, Clarence Brooks, Bobby Engram, and Juan Castillo. I'm on the fence about Trestman, he is perhaps a guy who deserves another chance with better personnel to work with.

Why do we have to "give" guys a chance?  They should be earning it.  If James practiced well enough to get the chance, he might still be here.  Our willingness to cut him mere days after promoting him shows what we thought of him.  Let's not overrate marginal NFL players.  I like the kid, but he's got a lot of deficiencies and is probably a bottom of the roster player for the rest of his career.
