Eugene Monroe - the workout warrior

The one guy I really hope they take as a swing tackle is Germain Ifedi. He'd need some serious polish, but I'd love to land him as a swing tackle option.

I was really hoping they'd land Jake Fisher in the second last year, but they obviously didn't have a shot, or didn't want to spend what it would cost to trade up.

I just do not see the Ravens as making some serious push to "upgrade" over a LT who has just recently had some injury issues in the second year of a five year deal.

The Bengals shocked me there. I also like Ifedi. He has some potential. I wouldn't complain if we drafted him. Maybe plug him in at LG, even. Get him real game experience. I wouldn't toss aside Monroe, though. It would need to be the right deal to make sense.

The Bengals just have the luxury to make a move and draft two future tackles in the top two rounds... Must be nice to have cap space and draft consistently high for so long to build a team...

Anyway, Ifedi would be the perfect swing tackle for me, although, I'd rather see Urschel at LG, but it'd be a good camp battle.

Yeah I don't even necessarily think adding depth at a certain position on the line is important... just depth in general. Ideally, in the form of a swing tackle.

I told people this last season... too many fans look to see "who's the backup at this position or that position", when particularly the offensive line is generally just about playing the best five guys you have. We worried about not having a backup for Rick Wagner... turns out it was Yanda, our starting RG. Our best depth on the Oline last season was interior (guard), so we slide Yanda out and bring in a guard.

The issue at this point is we don't really have any depth at the tackle spot. We, at least to me, have reasonable depth on the interior Oline, which is why losing a KO or Zuttah to me isn't as big as losing a Monroe.

To be quite honest, if everybody was healthy but Monroe, I wouldn't have been surprised if they put either Yanda or Wagner at LT and shifted the line accordingly that way. Its just not feasible now with three starters out.

Wagner would be my guess, if they had to swing someone out. Yanda has proven he can play RT at a high level and Urschel wasn't terrible at RG, so it'd make the most sense in my mind. The versatility of the interior offensive line is probably the strength of the entire line. Urschel plays any interior spot, Zuttah plays C/LG, Yanda plays RG/RT.

I'm going to imagine they'll prioritize an offensive lineman in round two or three, depending on who is there in the second. Dream scenario for me is for Kendall Fuller or Boyd to be there, if both declare.

I absolutely hate shifting RT to LT. That's why I'd prefer a LG who can play LT.

Stanley/Tunsil

Yeah, I'd love them here. Whether it's a top pick or not, we'll need a backup for Monroe. He's not reliable anymore and it's hurting the team expecting him to be.

Random thought , our team has become infamous for our injuries. Is it a coincidence that Monroe has been injured here and not in Jacksonville?

Is he simply a victim of something larger?

He did miss 3 games in 3 years with Jacksonville.

He's beat that mark about every year with us.

I still want Ifedi

No. I don't have the numbers but he didn't miss many games at all.

I find it alarming that players in Baltimore end up injury prone, more so it seems than other organizations. This has been on my mind lately. Is it just me? Could just be overreacting because injuries are apart of the game, but it seems like every season we lose quite a few important and depth players to season ending or nagging injuries. People on here wanted doctors fired so I can't be the only one thinking about this lol. Is Harbs' training camp too much?

This is ridiculous, he's about to miss his 6th game of the season. He missed five last season. He's got to stay on the field.

Inoryt? Maybe we should put him on IR and let him get surgery or something so maybe he'll hopefully be ready to start the season.

I'm so bothered by it honestly. It hinders our team whenever he's not out there.

That is exactly what he is looking for! He is a workout warrior and that is it. I sincerely believe now that he's paid, he is in full self-preservation mode. He wants to save his body so he can extend his career span. The irony is his calculus may actually pay off because teams are so LT needy. Even if he is cut (unlikely), he is likely to be snapped up by another team for a 3-4 yr deal with more guarantees. He'll go on doing this till he collects his millions and save his body.

However, it sucks for the Ravens to be suckered by him.

Someone as chiseled and dedicated to keeping his body in tip top shape is probably not just looking to get paid, especially considering the way to get paid to is play. Hey, remember, Bryant McKinnie was 400 pounds and got workout incentives for losing weight.

Monroe does not strike me, or probably any reasonable person, as someone who would just take the money and run. It is highly unfair to criticize the dedication of an athlete. None want to get injured or play poorly. They want to be out there winning and playing at a high level.

I think Jared Gaither is the one guy I can remember that I don't think ever really wanted to play football.

Even McKinnie wanted to play enough to request a trade

I would definitely say above average, and even if he isn't Joe Thomas or Joe Staley (I think Smith is a tad overrated), he's been the best blindside protector that Joe has ever had.

I don't understand how people see Hurst play so abysmally, rip Hurst to shreds, and then say Monroe sucks. Baffling.

I don't see it as so baffling. A lot of fans don't think that Hurst has shown enough ability to be our answer at LT, and they don't see Monroe showing the ability to stay on the field. It may simply mean that these fans don't think that we have a good, or even adequate, option for a Very important position, LT, the protector of our very valuable QB's blindside. Nothing baffling about that.

That's, on average, missing One game a year. Wouldn't we all just love and be incredibly happy if we could have Monroe again, on average, on the field for 15 out of 16 games? What are the numbers right now for us? Something like 11 games missed in the last season plus eleven games this year so far, isn't it? I think that's pretty close and nobody should be OK with that.

What I mean is most people say he sucks when he's on the field (even though he grades out as the top blocker on the Ravens by PFF routinely), but refuse to acknowledge the dropout to Hurst because they're too proud to eat their words.

I love Monroe and I'm extremely frustrated by his injuries, but I also realize he's a phenomenal talent when he's healthy

We are onto game 12 at this point, not including the playoffs, I believe

I'm not sure if it's to the point where we need to look for a legitimate starter at LT just yet.  I'm hopeful that it's just an unfortunate string of injuries for Monroe.  We absolutely have to upgrade the backup LT though.  Hurst is awful.
