[News] Life Without Joe Flacco Begins For Ravens

37 posts in this topic

Let's hope that Schaub can return to his '09-'10 Texans days when he was dangerous QB for the right reasons(4,000 yards/20 plus TDs) and not his later days with the Texans when he was a dangerous QB for the wrong reasons(record 4 consecutive games with a pick 6).

One thing I have noticed all season is that when there are shots of the sidelines, Schaub is always excited and engaged with the game. I appreciate and respect Schaub's professionalism, being mentally and emotionally involved. He has been paying attention to every offensive play, rather than detaching and doing nothing on the bench. So now he will be physically involved and I hope that all the time invested mentally and emotionally will pay off in performance. Good, bad or indifferent, I am supporting Schaub and wish him well at the helm.

I hadn't noticed, but that's encouraging to know.

It will definitely be different watching a Ravens game without Joe at the helm. Matt's a good QB with all the tools to be successful.

I'm sure everything will be fine once the games get moving.

Good luck Matt !

I just don't like the title of this article. Flacco is our QB and Yes he wont be on the field the next few months but we are not without him. He will be back.

I have noticed that Schaub is sometimes as, if not more, animated and fired up than some of the guys who are actually playing in responding to something going on in the game. This 1 time starter reduced to riding the bench was able to rise above his disappointment and be enough of a pro to be genuinely excited and involved in the games. That has impressed me every time I have seen Schaub on sideline shots. The man deserves our support and no, Schaub is not Joe, nor should we fans expect him to be. All I can say from what I have observed is that Schaub has become committed and loyal to his team/our team, the Ravens and that he will give every bit of effort and passion he has to help us get through this season. Schaub could use every bit of fan support we can give him in these circumstances nobody expected. Edited by salamander

What worries me about Matt is.. he has a one year contract.  Does he care enough to give it his all?

I'm sure he does if he wants to get extended or even to get another contract from another team.

I also have liked his demeanor on the sidelines during games. Always positive and very involved/ in tune with what's going on. I think he'll do well but we still won't win but 1 or 2 more games.

Well what I say to that is Joe has a 120 million dollar contract and our record is 3-7, can't do much worse!!!!!!!!!! even if we lost the rest of the games. Go Ravens!!!!!!!! Good luck Matt.

We should all hope Matt does really well for us, we'll enough that some team picks him up to be their starter next year and offers him big money. Why? Top shelf comp pick.

Rooting for Schaub and basically our 2nd string team on offense! As bizarre as it seems, this is basically our Preseason Team.

The play calling was awful when Joe was in or he didn't study the pictures enough to make better throws we will see now! Ray Ray and Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeed got hurt the Defense stood tall and so will Matt and turning this team over to rookie would be a very very very bad move! QB CONTROVERSY is on the horizon watch and see! Sorry Joe I can't fake it anymore!

When we picked up Matt Schaub this year, I thought, wow... here's a guy who could actually come in and make a diference. Hate to see Flacco go down, but it's next man up. I have a good feeling about Javorius Allen. Think we're going to see some magic this week.

Schaub can make all the throws - he's beaten us before. Plus, he has quick feet -- drops back lickity-split and releases. Can dice up a defense with short passes, and then let one fly -- on a dime.

Could get interesting :)

Here is the irony of the situation. As poorly as Matt has played over the past couple of seasons, it won't shock me one bit to see him thrive as Ravens QB and win out for us this season. Given our luck throughout this season and the long anticipated possibility of a top 5 pick to make us talent rich over the next several seasons, lady luck will throw us a curve ball by allowing us to win at least 4-5 Games of the next 6 and get us back to picking in the 20s! We end up 7-9 or 8-8 and pick in the teens yet again while missing the playoffs for sure. Won't shock me one bit if my prediction comes true but will certainly shock me if we continue to lose.

Just one quick question, Who is the Einstein that cut Bryn Renner? I think our problem is not really with the team, but those making personnel decisions.

Well, it doesn't really matter if he does or not. This is a lost season. But also, since he has a one year contract, you should be thinking the exact opposite.

Bryn Renner got cut once Camp and Waller went down... at that point you have to start replenishing your depth... unless Renner can line up outside the numbers and run routes... he was going to be a victim of the numbers game... not a single person would have anticipated Joe being done for the year... there were two things you could count on for the last 8 years... Maryland's weather is going to be crazy inconsistent and Joe Flacco will be under center for the Ravens... so there is no reason to question the personnel decisions.. plus we aren't at practices to see where his development was progressing at that point...

I was really hoping Joe could break Cal Ripken's consecutive game streak too, damn.

He was once arguably on the verge of being a top qb in the league. With this season being what it is, I'm actually kind of hoping that he doesn't revert back to a successful form. Does that make me a bad fan? Moral dilemma going on here. One hand I welcome the thought of having a top 5 pick because I know, if healthy we have a playoff caliber team. Adding high end talent will only make us richer. The other hand, I want everyone to play well and keep fighting because that's been engraved in stone as the Ravens way.

That's very true! Also, I'm going to root for Matt no matter what. He's a decent guy and he's been there for Joe all season long, I saw them conferring often on the sidelines while defense was on. He's been selfless and shared whatever experience and insights he's got. He's also kept hustling even knowing he'll never see the field on game day, because Joe is invincible (ha.ha.). I want him to be successful and do well. Because of the person he is, but also, because Ravens are a winning organization and tanking a season for a good draft pick isn't a winning mentality. As a team, you always have to believe you are the best guys to prove it and walk out on the field intending to do just that.

On the bright side, Matt is exactly as tall as Joe and exactly as heavy, they are very similar physically, so the snaps won't have to be readjusted ;)

I like schaub but his arm strength scares the hell out of me. Idk if it's him just being older and getting a looot of wear over the years that made it drop off in 2013 but damn if it didn't look weak. Schaub wishing you luck man (for comp pick reasons) plus I wanna see you do well for yourself...good luck schauby.

I believe that hiring ray lewis at some capacity on the def side of the ball will bring back a champion def again. pay him the money and get it done.
