[News] Ravens Claim Jimmy Clausen As Backup Quarterback

80 posts in this topic

Ya, I would have more than likely put Renner in as the 3rd guy and save a few bucks but because they tend to keep him on the PS, I'm guessing he's not grasping the reads quite yet. With out O line being what it is now, there's a chance we might see the 3rd guy in there before this is all over. I just don't know what Clausen would have in that situation over Renner. Seems like Bryn has more up side.

Ahhhh back to the old Kyle Boller days for the rest of the season but wait we no longer have a good defense... What a nightmare season. Hopefully the 20th anniversary 2015 Baltimire jinx wears off and everyone comes back healthy and stronger next year.

Trestman doesn't have it. Harbaugh looks lost. Ozzie's better days are behind him. The tradition is fizzling out. Biscuits and gravy needs better potion.

Some people don't understand that Joe saved the Ravens but he isn't doing what he did to get the job done and has lost it in my eyes! His throws are off he under throws everyone because his timing is off is why Jacoby always had to stop and turn to make receptions and the rams game he jus stunk! Clausen is just a backup but the Ravens need to keep a good veteran as backup period! Don't sleep on Matt people!

your a strange guy.

I'm also sure if it were up to you we would never run the ball- We know you like to sling the rock!!!

I'm baffled why we didn't just use rynner as schaubs backup and start grooming him for the backup position next year. This just seems like a waste of money. Sign a guy just Bc he has a history with trestman? Forget trestman...I thought this was the "ravens offense" and not his...looking more and more like the latter. Can't say I didn't see this move coming though. I mean it's whatever at this point. As long as he's not back next year.

Come on, people, he's the back-up to the back-up. You were expecting maybe Peyton Manning? And the article did say they were considering signing Bryn Renner to the practice squad. At this point we need bodies, and all the "good" candidates are long gone. Whoever mentioned Kaepernick should know he just had surgery so he isn't available.

I don't think anyone is expecting Peyton Manning. I think people here realize that the team needs a long term, viable option as a back up. Schaub is a one year stop-gap that everyone hoped we wouldn't need. Whoever gets the job as the new backup is auditioning for the backup position in the future. Right now that guy is Clausen and his past performances suggest that he isn't very good. What we saw of Bryn Renner in the preseason was pretty good with a lot of potential to develop. Is he the answer? Maybe, maybe not, but I think most of us agree that Clausen certainly isn't.

he knows Trestmans offense and he may be starting before long, the quarterback situation is really bad, teams will key on the run because they know the pass wont hurt them.

If we're gonna loose then why not with someone that could play halfway decent and not look totally bad I hope. Welcome to the Fairgrounds, Mr. Clausen.

You know what, maybe we are "killing the messenger" with Mink. He is a company man and likely knows that he has to "put lipstick on a pig" so to speak. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

First off... 99% of people don't understand what in the heck you just said. Second of all were talking about Clausen not Ryan mink a beat reporter... Lipstick on a pig... Come on

Not great but what can you do? It's not like there are any other good QBs on the market in week 12 of the season, no trades possible of course, Campbell is content with retirement, at this point all people on the market are equally bad. We aren't going to find a savior, Clausen is basically just a warm body and would do as well as a starter as anyone on the market, any complaining on this is pretty much irrelevant.

I like Renner and think he played his way onto the team anyways. I wouldn't mind seeing him play a few games this year; we have to sign him first, though. He's got that spunk we need; you saw him run for that TD in the pre-season. He's got some confidence about himself, too.

For the rest of this season it doesn't matter who is qb or gator-ade boy. For all practical purposes the handwriting is already on the wall. Maybe we get lucky with all these fill-in players and find a gem or 2 for next season. I say go fer it with whoever they think will be okay. Nothing left to lose. This is just not our year fans.

I would prefer Bryan Renner as backup to Schaub, cause he did well for us the short time he played for us. Clausen seems to have a tendency to throw too many interceptions, for my tastes.

I'm looking for Zac Dysert to be picked up in the coming days. Renner may not even sniff the practice roster. Dysert compares to Rothlisburger in some circles. Now that's something I believe Trestman could be successful with project wise. It will only take a bad outting from Mr.S

Clausen had a good college career at ND. It appeared that he could make the transition to the NFL. He does seem to be a bit trigger happy since coming to the NFL. If they can settle him down some that could be a plus, But, it is very hard to change old habits once the pressure is on. He'll do for the next 6 weeks though and that is what we need for now. I would like to see us give Renner another shot. He has potential and we have seen that already.

Dysert could be a bit of a gem in the rough. At this point it could be a wise move to look him over at length. We have a done a heck of a lot worse with QB's in past years.

Clausen is a interception machine. Another sad event for Ravens fans to witness.  I hope Schawb pans out, but my confidence in him is deflated too.  We better improve our running and short passing game as go routes are ripe for the picking.  These last six games are like spending time in the hospital emergency waiting room.

I agree that Renner is the better choice and since we were bad in the pre season he was a spark on the field.
