CJ Mosley looked different against the rams

44 posts in this topic

did anyone notice that mosley was playing angry? i have never seen mosley really show emotion on the field, the extent is usually a pound on the chest or a chest bump to a teammate, but yesterday he looked like he ramped up the intensity quite a bit, and it was a sight to see. he absolutely lit up todd gurley in the backfield on one play and i BELIEVE(not 100% sure) that it came after a bogus penalty, almost as if he is fed up with the penalties and everything going against us this year, and he stomped around like a beast after the play. i think overall the defense was feeding off of mosleys intensity, everyone was swarming to the ball and mosley was always in the mix, and he just looked like he played angry, and i liked what i saw...

this is the kind of thing we need to see more of from this kid, he is our future on defense, he needs to be more than productive, he needs to have that intensity for the team to feed off of, he has to command the respect of the entire field, he needs to be an enforcer and that guy to rally the troops, and i feel like on sunday we saw him coming out of his shell and becoming that guy.

if the bashful cj mosley is long gone and he is beginning to channel his inner intensity and letting it all be seen, then i think that will be the beginning of our defensive turnaround. our defense has looked lethargic and lost all year long, we need pass rush and secondary improvements, but we also desperately needed to bring back the atmosphere of intensity, and i think mosley is finally bringing it back!

I liked it. Defense needs swagger after losing it along with Ed, Ray and Sizz. Our defense has looked like zombies walking around on the field this season.

C.J has never really been an enforcer type guy, look at his college tape. He diagnosed plays and made the smart tackle.

Compare that to Reggie Ragland who rams throughs block and bullies running backs.

But I was also surprised to see C.J play so angry.

thats essentially the point of the whole post lol. hes always been the cool calculated guy, but he played absolutely lights out and he played pissed off, and he looked more like a force to be reckoned with rather than just a good tackler. if he keeps it up he can break that barrier, turning from a "good linebacker" into a "great player", you think ray lewis is considered the greatest of all time if he keeps his mouth shut and just makes the play? nah, you need that intensity to truly be great, look at guys like zach thomas and london fletcher, nobody would dare utter their names in the same sentence as ray lewis or mike singletary, but their field production wasnt far off, the energy is what sets them apart.

I disagree that you have to be an enforcer hype man or whatver to be great. Luke the Kuke isn't a crazy trash talker or whatever and he is by far the best current linebacker.

Pregame speech from Reeeeeeeeeeedddd must have fired him up.

We need to bring back Ray and Ed as assistant coaches.  The fire and intangibles they bring just can't be replaced. Ray as the assistant D coordinator and Ed as a defensive back coach.  Ed has already said he will eventually coach ... just hope it will be with the big boys on Sundays.

We absolutely need to see more of this ... and it needs to come from within. We can't rotate in our former luminaries like Ray and Ed for every home game to get these guys fired up.

The one late hit he had was insane ... I can't believe he didn't know the play was dead. It is a fine line ... we can't go off the deep end, as we are not good enough to overcome numerous penalties of over aggression, but there needs to be a firey leader on this team and why not from our 1st round ILB?

you seem to be mixing trash talk with general intensity, kuechly plays very intense, he has energy, you dont have to act like steve smith and jaw off after every snap, but if you bust a play wide open and you let the whole stadium know that youre ready to do it all day, it changes a team. mosley can make one big play after another but he mostly just walks on back to the huddle like nothing happened, when he ramps up the intensity the way he did sunday, the team feeds off of it, everyone begins to play harder and more excited.

in mosleys defense, the carrier hurdled a guy, and it was VERY close to a clean hurdle, his foot tapped the helmet and that was it, and he sprung back up quickly like he planned on running, and once again the refs are 100% to blame here, we have been boned by forward progress enough this season and ONCE AGAIN the refs didnt blow the whistle, but throw the flag when the play continues. mosley had every right to assume that the play was still going, if the refs dont blow the whistle you just can NOT fault the players for continuing to play, if the defense stops playing when they assume the play is dead, then the offense takes their cheap shot like chris johnson did against us.

Thought it was his best game of the year, since the Broncos. I'm going to fuss he's been nursing an injury and couldn't play to his full capacity

He showed intensity and passion on Sunday for sure, I agree. CJ Mosley is the key to this defense turning it around the next few years, he's the lynchpin.

Should always play MLB with some anger bordering on rage.  The greatest MLBs of all time, just list them off, some angry players.

I loved watching him destroy that receiver after he got up. Even if he got a penalty for it. It's been "Damned if you do, damned if you don't" with that all year. At least you get to send a message.

I think it's the stickers, fellas.

Good one dude!! I always felt like he would return to pro bowl version. Not sure it was injury or he was not feeling the scheme and was unmotivated or what but he looked good!! Now only if Ravens had a fire breathing rush olb!! Somebody that was an emotional leader as well. Somebody like say Chandler Jones!! So far I hear other than Bosa the edge rushers in this draft is uninspiring. But a fire breathing emotional edge rusher would be a nice compliment to Mosley!!

He's about the sane player he was last year skill wise, his coverage struggles are simply more apparent due to the lack of pass rush. I'd love it if he were getting more aggressive, we need a leader on defense.

I wouldn't mind reed to come on as a secondary coach...somebody needs to teach the guys to go after the damn ball.

I also really enjoyed seeing Mosley play with that passion. He did looked pissed off.. Hope he can find a way to summon that energy and play that way week in and week out. All we have to do is draft a dominant pass rusher and a good db and our defense is going to return to a defense that Baltimore is known for. We're not as far off as some people think. Esp with a top pick looming.

I was at the game, and CJ was getting FIRED UP by the Rams players.... They were taunting the crowd and other players all game. It was good to see that fire, he's had a rock solid first two years, but now he needs to realize that this is HIS defense.

I think it was from how the season is going along with the penalties. Naturally I don't see him playing that way without someone else on the team hyping him up, but I could see him playing that way if we can get someone like that on this team.

I agree with you though I think the defense was feeding off the energy and intensity.

Yeah, I think one of those penalties called against us fired him up but you could definitely see the fire in his eyes. Combine Singletary eyes with the explosiveness of Ray Lewis and he'll be dynamite. He's got a great nose for the ball. His pass coverage needs to improve but that comes from reading the plays and making his drops. Its not due to a lack of quickness or speed. I think he felt he had something to prove to McDonald who was getting all the pre-game hype. He and Jimmy can help this defense get its swagger back. The addition of another pass rusher and DB will help too. Grim nailed it though. It must have been those stickers!

Mosley is a beast and will be for a long time as the face of our D! I just wish Jimmy started playing like he is capable of! All we need now is Bosa to make our front 7 astoundingly formidable! Imagine Williams, Jernigan, Urban, Bosa and Davis rotating on the front 3 with Doom and Suggs on the edge and Mosley backing them all up in the middle. Pretty stout.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game. How did Timmy J do? I expected much more out of him this year......and Carl Davis?

Guys definitley feed off of it so I believe it can lift up a team. Yes it is important and it helps. I want to see more!

jimmys recovering from a lisfranc, and his shortcomings this year appear to be a direct result of it, his recovery speed and his ability to turn and sprint downfield look really labored, give it another year for him.

and personally i dont believe we need bosa to be that guy, i think emmanuel ogbah can be that 3 down OLB of the future for us if he were to fall to the teens he would be worth a trade up, carl nassib is a pure rusher that fits the bill for us in the 2nd, and yannick ngakuoe may be one of the best pure pass rushers in the class and could probably be had in the 3rd, he just needs to work on his tackling in the run game
