The Matt Schaub Thread

251 posts in this topic

I figured we will need this. We could start with his perceived strengths and weaknesses.

My concern is that we'll change the offense to be primarily run-oriented supplemented with quick short passes. IF that is successful, then we have to question why we would go forward with a strong-armed QB.

Matt "Pick 6" Schaub is my concern.

The Matt Schaub thread.  How long before it gets intercepted?

Seriously though, it'd be stupid to go run heavy.  Schaub may not be good but he has NFL experience for about a decade whereas if you go run heavy you lean on a rookie who's being backed up by a guy who's already been cut by 2 teams after a year and a half

During training camp I was like "well he may be a Raven, but he's still Matt Schaub."

Now I guess I have to say "he may be Matt Schaub, but he's still a Raven."

I wonder if he will be afforded the same latitude as Flacco by our fan base given the lack of receivers, etc.

It's going to be run heavy and Schaub will throw interceptions...bad ones.

I would guess yes. I'd let him call his own offense just to make sure we secure a top 6 pick. Edited by redrum52

I'm holding out hope that he's learned from his previous mistakes and will do enough to keep our games watchable. I've kind of grown accustomed to the last minute dramatic game endings.

If he could lead a win against Seattle, I'd never bad mouth him again.

Hopefully not run-heavy, but rather more balanced than it was up to before the Rams game. We have seen that Buck Allen can carry us through the season with runs and Juice is able to help out well with the screens. Plus, we have West, though not sure what to expect of him.

From what I've read (I haven't been following football for all that long) Schaub used to be very good with quick short passes and that'd fit well with our tight end heavy offense and could work. I'm worried about the amount of interceptions he had in training camp and preseason, but maybe he'll surprise us all.

Matt Schuab couldn't complete passes while throwing to Andre Johnson, Deandre Hopkins and Owen Daniels, with Arian Foster behind him.

Before I give my opinion and possibly criticize you here, please explain what you mean by the bold. It sounds like you're saying if Schaub is successful with a strong run game that we may just rely on the run game to carry the offense with an accurate QB, which could eliminate Joe Flacco from our future plans.

Is this a correct interpretation?

I have an ethical dilemma at this point. I'm not sure whether to go with consequentialism or deontological. Should the ends justify the means (top 5 or #1 overall pick as the ends) or should the means justify the end (losing season)? I'm not sure whether to hope Schaub turns into pick-#1" Schaub or "playoff" Schaub because it means we'll have a chance.

We have NO chance with this team and Schaub. We have a great shot at that #1 pick though, which the more I think about it, the less I want it. 2-6 is honestly the best range, I think.

I think Schaub will lead us to 2 or so more wins. I think we beat the Browns this week, Dolphins and then may be the Bengals when they are playing no starters week 17.

The other weeks, we are going to get slaughtered.

I think we'll be able to trade back a little for #1 overall. Some will say we won't get proper compensation but we've seen this story before where bad teams make small moves to ensure they get their guy. Everyone knows we're unlikely to take a QB even with the Flacco injury; however, that doesn't rule it out and a team may make the trade to secure their guy, especially if the Browns pick before them.

Matt Schaub certainly makes that possible. I'm not sure whether or not he's actually an albatross like I jokingly say he is lol. I don't want him back, though. We need a young guy behind Joe we can groom imo.

why wouldn't we? Not like we couldn't keep primarily running the ball or throwing short quick passes with a strong armed quarterback. And then the threat of the longball would always still be there.

Ahh I guess you could question the money part.

might as well start grooming rynner now and getting him some games under his belt. I don't see why we wouldn't.

I liked Renner in preseason as well. He first needs to be on the team, though. Harbaugh said that he's a practice squad candidate. Not sure if he was serious or not. That's what I heard, anyway. I didn't personally hear Harbaugh say that, so I could be wrong. Just going off another comment here

he did say that. I'm just not sure why he wasn't already on the ps. We will need a backup next year going forward so now would be the opportune time to start grooming him. Not just saying that Bc he flashed in preseason...but because he's young and won't cost us millions of dollars to possibly never even see the feild. And if he does see the feild it would be nice to get him some in game experience now in a Lost season. Edited by January J

Sadly, yes to both of you. And that's coming from a "Flacco Lover". If we can have a successful offense with no weapons, Flacco's contract becomes a huge point of contention.

I personally think that would be pretty stupid of us, but that's just me. It's too hard to find a franchise QB. If that's the case, I'd draft a QB high and keep Joe for at least a year before making this move.

I'd be furious if we got rid of Joe at least while he's playing solidly. If he falls off a cliff performance wise then it'll be more reasonable.

Matt Schaub vs. Josh McCown on MNF lol ... thats definitely not what they had in mind when they made the schedule.

I can't imagine going back to the way things were before  Joe was drafted that's nightmarish. If Schaub comes out and reverts to probowl form then good he can find a new starting job in the offseason. if not then we pray Joe has a speedy recovery and the season ends quickly!

Always go for hoping for a "playoff" caliber performance. Don't wish on anybody to suck, they have to live with that. And Ravens who have fought for every single game they play, regardless if they're unbeaten or have yet to win a game are the mentality that gets them through adversity other years as well. A lot of mental toughness is required and it's very difficult not get a loser attitude if nothing's going right. But it's far more difficult to regain faith in your team once you succumb to that.

That's why a top 10 pick is better than #1 pick. There's still brilliant players, but there's dignity in that. Look at Indy - They "Sucked for Luck" and now Luck sucks for them. Would you want to tank the season for a #1 pick that could turn into a bust or get injured and make no difference just like the next guy?

How many of those below were absolutely worth tanking a season for?

ALL TIME NUMBER 1 DRAFT PICKS
