ClintLB8's First Mock Draft

13 posts in this topic

So, this season has been painful to watch. It's time to start looking towards next year. I'm having fun with this. A lot of stretches here, but just keep in mind it's what I would do and I'm no GM. In this mock, I have us moving to a 4-3. I believe our personnel would translate relatively well.

Free Agency:

Justin Tucker K, Ravens (resign)

Morgan Cox LS, Ravens (resign)

Kamar Aiken WR, Ravens (RFA)

Terrance West RB, Ravens (ERFA)

Josh Gordon WR, Browns (cut-candidate)

I am predicting with this mock that the Bears finish in the 10-12 range as far as pick. With this, I am also predicting a trade down with the Bears so they can move ahead of the 49ers for Jared Goff.

Ravens receive:

1st Round Pick (2016)

1st Round Pick (2017)

2nd Round Pick (2016)

4th Round Pick (2016)

Bears receive:

1st Round Pick (2016)

I am also predicting a trade up in the end of the 3rd round costing us two 4th round picks.

2016 Draft:

Round 1: Emmanuel Ogbah DE, Oklahoma State

Round 2: John Theus OT, Georgia

Round 2: Kendall Fuller CB, Virginia Tech

Round 3: Spencer Drango OG, Baylor

Round 3: Deon Bush FS, Miami

Round 4: Antonio Morrison OLB, Florida

Round 5: Jacoby Brissett QB, NC State

Round 6: Kris Frost OLB, Auburn

Roster:

QB: Joe Flacco, Jacoby Brissett

RB: Javorius Allen, Justin Forsett, Lorenzo Taliaferro, Terrance West

FB: Kyle Juszczyk

WR1: Josh Gordon, Kamar Aiken

WR2: Breshad Perriman, Darren Waller, Cam Worthy

Slot: Mike Campanaro

TE: Maxx Williams/Crockett Gilmore, Nick Boyle

LT: Eugene Monroe, John Theus

LG: John Urschel, Spencer Drango

OC: Jeremy Zuttah

RG: Marshal Yanda

RT: Ricky Wagner, James Hurst

LE: Terrell Suggs, Za'Darius Smith, Brent Urban

DT: Timmy Jernigan, Lawrence Guy

NT: Brandon Williams, Carl Davis

RE: Elvis Dumervil, Emmanuel Ogbah

SLB: Daryl Smith, Kris Frost

MLB: CJ Mosley, Zach Orr

WLB: Arthur Brown, Antonio Morrison

LCB: Lardarius Webb, Kendall Fuller, Tray Walker

RCB: Jimmy Smith, Julian Wilson

Nick: Kyle Arrington, Will Davis

FS: Kendrick Lewis, Deon Bush, Terrance Brooks, Anthony Levine

SS: Will Hill, Matt Elam

K: Justin Tucker

P: Sam Koch

LS: Morgan Cox

Notes:

So, a few points I need to make in explaining myself with this mock. I have us taking a chance on a guy like Josh Gordon. It wouldn't be the first time Ozzie has taken a chance on someone like him. I'm not even sure that the Browns would cut him at this point, but if they did, signing him would be a typical Ozzie move. 1-year prove it deal. I think adding a first round talent like Perriman to the group next year, as well as adding Campanaro back to the unit.. that we should be fine at WR. It's risky, but it's the route I decided to take this mock.

I still believe in Jimmy Smith and his abilities. I also think Webb can still be some what effective. I think our best bet is to move Webb permanently to the nickel corner. Fuller isn't outstanding at anything, but he does a lot of things well and I believe he has the ability to make an early impact if he can recover from his injury in a timely fashion. Adding both Fuller and Deon Bush (a personal favorite of mine) will significantly upgrade our secondary.

The third big point is that you probably noticed that I didn't take a RB. That's because I still believe in the group we have. Allen wasn't outstanding in his first significantly time, but I honestly saw the potential for him to develop into our version of Matt Forte. We might not have a superstar (yet) at RB, but I believe the unit will be solid top to bottom and I believe between Taliaferro and Allen, one will emerge as our true workhorse guy moving forward.

To far to drop down imo, not enough impact players immediately and we won't sign gordon. We don't sign knuckle heads anymore

I love Ogbha and hope we land him, just not sure where his value will be, so i cant say if thats too early for him or not, some think he is a top 15 so you might be spot on there.

also like the deon bush pick

but im gonna go no with the Gordon, its possible obviously, just highly unlikely.  I see a R White, Vjax, Garcon, Nate washington type of signing.

Nice write up

I would hate to rely on Gordon as our only upgrade at WR other than Perriman who's a question mark himself. I like Ogbah a lot.

I think Brissett is going to go higher than 5th round. He seems like a solid 3rd round pick.

Ogbah seems like a fine pick. We'll know more after the combine.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if Fuller goes back to school for his senior year. He seemed like a 2nd round pick before his ACL--now he seems like a 3rd.

Switching to a 4-3 would put a lot more pressure on our LB corps. We'd pretty much have to go out and find a Will and Mike or Sam (depending where you think Mosley should play--he lacks the coverage skills to be MLB imo). I think we are surprisingly well stacked on the DL to manage it though. Jernigan should be a DT anyway, CD would be a big end, Urban is a prototypical 5-tech. I still hate 4-3 defenses for being bland and predictable and putting a lot more pressure on talent, but that's just me.

So much this. I would be embarrassed if we got him somehow. Only worse character out there is Aldon Smith.

Plus I think Gordon has to be reinstated first (?). I know Justin Blackmon has to apply for reinstatement, and he's another substance abuser with high-talent you could sign if you throw character concerns to the wind.

I don't see Gordon hitting Free Agency. It wouldn't make sense to keep Gordon up to this point just to cut him in the summer. I think the Browns are hoping he turns it around.

Do you think we can get more than that? Droping from 4-15 is huge for any team so I'm sure the price will be demanding. The Rams got an haul moving down from 2 to 6, and the Browns did as well moving from 4 to 8. I think we can get a bit more than a 1st & 2nd, I personally think if we don't pick a LT in the 1st, then we won't do it until later rounds, I don't see it in the 2nd. That is just my opinion though, overall I think its a good mock.

I'd be surprised if Josh Gordon came back next season. The league still hasn't reinstated Justin Blackmon. I know that Gordon technically is eligible to return in 2016, I just don't see Goodell letting it happen so soon. Gordon may be out of the league for good.

Goff doesn't have half as much hype as RGIII. I don't think we could get more than an extra 2nd round pick by moving down to let a team get him, especially the Bears considering how good Cutler has been this year. I don't think any team is dumb enough to move up to the top 5 for a QB this year.

That may be true as of right now, but once pro days and the combine goes by then that is when QB's usually get all the hype.  Even so, if we land in the top 5 I cannot see us trading out of the top 10 unless we were to get some ridiculous haul.

It will cost the Browns virtually nothing to bring Gordon back so I don't see him hitting the market, especially since he might not even be reinstated for 2016.

I think we sign a veteran receiver regardless of SSS and I think we draft one in the first 3 rounds on top of that.

I think we have to sign a mid level free agent to help our defense out, whether that is someone like Nick Perry, Tambi Hali, Keenan Lewis (If cut) or Leon Hall, we cannot rely solely on draft picks again to produce.

I like your first 3 picks though in the mock draft, all 3 guys fill big time needs on our team and Theus would be a big upgrade over Hurst.  Overall though I think in your scenario we would be exposed in the secondary and at wide receiver again, two positions we absolutely have to upgrade via free agency and the draft.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I definitely was playing fantasy land with this one. Like I said in the original post, I'm not even sure the Browns would cut Gordon. I don't think he is actually a bad guy.. just another Ricky Williams who loves to get his smoke on (among other things such as alcohol). I get infatuated with talent too easily, I guess. Lol. I also had the Bears finishing around pick 10-12 and us trading back to there. So, while the value still may not match, not moving AS far down as pick 15. I also believe Mosley could play MIKE in a 4-3 (I actually think it would be a better fit for him). It's crazy to me how he has struggled in coverage at times. He was known for his coverage ability in college. I think him at MLB and Daryl Smith at SLB would do fine but we would need a long term SLB and a WLB. I'll get more serious as things actually start to shake out and we start finding out where everyone will be drafting and such. Thanks again for any and all feedback!

I think San Fran would. They are parting ways with Kaepernick and I'm sure they don't see Blain Gabbert as a franchise QB. They need a QB badly.

Blackmon had the opportunity to be re-instated this off season but he failed his drug test . According to sources from rotoworld.com  he failed his drug test or didn't show up to take his drug test for reinstatement  which is also considered a failed drug test as well.

I expect Gordon  to get a chance to be reinstated this off season since he was given a one year ban and if he passes his drug test he should be back in The NFl. I honestly don't think The Browns would be willing to cut him if he does indeed pass his drug test because that will show them he's willing to be committed to being drug free and  his  football career.
