[News] Matt Schaub: I'm Absolutely Ready

69 posts in this topic

Either way it has been a top 10 offense with a losing record. That should tell you most of the problems are on defense. Kubiak or Trestman our offense still has the one problem of finishing a drive off. Even with that, we have only had 3 games this season we scored under 20 points and not one game where in the last 2 or 3 minutes we didn't still have a chance to win the game. We have had a few where in the last few minutes the defense gave up the lead. Everyone wants to cry offense but the season much like last was lost on the secondary but this year also throw in a few times the LBs gave up too much in the middle making it look like the secondary was failing when in fact it was lack of coverage over the middle by LBs.Some of this also can be blamed on lack of a blitz but Suggs missing causes much of that and not bye missing his sacks but by missing his coverage of the edge. He did so much more than just blitz but he commanded respect and that made it easier on the other side.

This game is so subtly interconnected that removing one part or player without succesfully finding a way to replace his talents can oftentimes cause the entire house to come crumbling down. Usually it's the QB position. On defense, without a doubt, the edge presence Suggs brings caused us to totally unravel at every level. No blindside pressure means no double teams. No double teams means hat on a hat blocking or doubling at the other edge of Doom. Nullifying front 4 pressure means added coverage time for secondary. Manufacturing pressure with LBs means expanded zones of coverage or completely abandoned zones as part of high risk high reward blitzing.

All because of the absence of one guy.

Awesome Schlub! Please be ready to make us competitive as a football team. Now, don't get carried away with your opportunity and start winning the rest of the games from here on out! Just be competitive man, nothing more, nothing less. Just kidding - please keep us competitive and a winning football team. Maybe the change will rid us of our bad luck and get us back to who we typically are.

I've seen qb's come in like this and set the world on fire winning every game put in front of them. Who knows what will happen. Shaub has a lot to play for. He went out in Houston in a bad way and should be willing to prove his worth. I look forward to seeing him perform this coming week. Like most of these guys on the team. They are professionals who can perform or they wouldn't be there.

As I recall I wanted to cut my wrists with a rusty razor blade when Unitas went down as was replaced by Earl Morrall. I'm not making a comparisons except that I would like to remain positive.

Welcome to the #1 roster spot Matt....... I liked Matt as Houston's QB, and I like him even more as one of our Ravens. Many fans may not feel the way I do, but he IS experienced, and he IS a winner, so there is no reason he can't be successful here...... I think Houston's fans and organization for that matter, stripped him of his confidence, and dignity, the same thing that they did to Jacoby Jones...... The guy deserves a chance at the very least..... GO GET 'EM MATT !!!

I'm glad we have at least a veteran like Schaub. You can't really replace a Super Bowl QB like Flacco but it is better to lean on a veteran who has been in the league for a while than a rookie. Schaub might not be the best player and his arm strengh dosen't wow anyone but since we have no real dangerous deep threat anymore and play more of a quickpass game lately, I think it won't be that big of a change. Maybe we even win some of the remaining games lol.

We also know that performance isn't just skill, but also the circumstances. Houston seems to be unforgiving to players or coaches who err, but the team in Baltimore is one team, one heart and regardless of how well or unwell Schaub has performed in the last two years, the guys will rally behind him and support him. It might be that it's all for nothing and we will lose out the season. But it might be, that it gives Schaub the confidence he needs to do his finest and the combination of pressure to perform and solidarity from players and organization makes him do well. I really hope it does. He's a good guy and deserves a chance to finish his career (eventually) on a less sour note than what he got in Houston and Oakland.

Let's see which Schaub walks on to the field Monday.

Schaub has been a starter in this league before so I know he knows how to prepare for a game each week. The Ravens are a patchwork unit right now with all the injuries and new players so it is what it is.

I think two things here, first I think Matt Schaub is going to surprise some of his critics and play some pretty great football. Secondly, I think if he does it should also be noted he is doing it with a depleted offense of almost all veteran talent. It's going to be interesting to see if this propels some guys into that next level thing, or hammers them......"Always listen to experts, they'll tell you what can't be done, and why. Then go do it" - Robert A. Heinlein

If you think about it, Shaub probably has more time with the guys that are on the field right now than Flacco did, considering Matt is the "practice" guy and all of our veterans are hurt.

QB controversy on the horizon! Joe made this team look worse than it really is and now watch how they play!

lol funny. I got a feeling your in for a pretty big let down guy.

Pretty sure clausen will be brought in by Wednesday. Wouldn't be a fan of the move but the trestman connection will do it.

Matt is a good QB, and capable of running this offense. We don't have the deep plays this year so his arm strength won't be a huge issue, so if he keeps it simple, Buck Allen gets moving, and uses the big Tight Ends, we should be OK. Keep us in some games and go out respectable. If he plays well, he won't be back next year

There have been several posters calling Schaub "Mr. Pick-Six" in this thread... and each have been heavily negged.   Sure, we all hope he comes in and displays his 2012 form, but his more recent NFL experience seems to suggest otherwise.  He set an NFL record in 2013 (his last starting season) with a Pick Six in four consecutive games - and last year, in his first pass of the season with the Raiders... he threw an interception.

We can hope he does well, but don't necessarily expect him to revert to his form of 2012 - he hasn't played well in three years.

Here's the NFL.com film of the four game stretch: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000257708/Matt-Schaub-s-pick-sixes-this-season

Don't look for any 6-0 string. More like 0-6. No matter. We weren't going anywhere any way. Now is the time to see if people should be around next year. Unfortunately, Joe's injury will be the excuse needed to keep inept Harbaugh and his band of idiot coaches on the roster as well. Our team has been on a downward spiral since Ray and Ed left. Poor drafts since 2009 have depleted the talent on both sides of the ball. With the exceptions of Brandon Williams amd perhaps Mosley, Newsome's drafts have killed us. Elam, Perriman, both first round mistakes. You cannot recover from blunders like this. Your first round choice needs to be golden, no matter the position. These two are chumps.

I was somebody who early on in the off season when Schaub was signed was pointing out his recent past and even posted an article that a scout had written that said that Schaub had lost the little bit of zip on his passes that was just enough to let him get away with some of the passes he would attempt. Whether it is age that has sapped it, or an elbow injury (yes, he was playing through something in his elbow, but it wasn't disclosed which makes me wonder if it was really an injury or an excuse), he showed his propensity for picks in training camp and in the pre season as well. I think he's Trent Dilfer right now. He can manage a game for you, but don't ask him to win it for you.

Despite the depletion of the QB position, RB position, and the O-line being banged up the Ravens have made a few personnel moves.

WR: Joe Morgan has been waived.

WR: Chuck Jacobs has been promoted to the roster from the practice squad.

WR: Chris Matthews has been signed; cousin of Hall of Famer Reggie White.

Rumors are that the Ravens are interested in Jason Campbell for QB; but he's supposedly interested in retirement. Ravens are also supposedly trying to get Bryn Renner back for a practice squad body and also another QB to add as the back up to Schaub. Better get somebody soon because you got a game coming up this weekend and Schaub could get hurt.

I haven't seen anything out of Schaub yet to prove to me he isn't the same guy his last season in Houston and the horrible time he spent in Oakland. Not saying he can't be decent, but the deck is stacked against him. He can't throw a deep ball. So he has to work underneath stuff and intermediate routes with the 3rd and 4th string wideouts that can't get seperation, with a patch work offensive line, and the ground game is relying on the 3rd and 4th string running backs. I'm looking for a lot of dink and dunk passes to Maxx Williams, Crockett Gillmore, Kyle Jusczyczk, and Buck Allen. Schaub is also prone to panicking under pressure so....good luck with that with this offensive line we got going on now.

Time to see if the defense was waking up out of its coma or if it was just that we were playing against the lame Rams and Case Keenum.

I sure hope he is better than Vick was when he wore a Jets jersey. At this point with the bad karma, lousy officiating and injury parade, the coaching staff will be cursed or congradulated.  It's time for Trestman to be who he once was.

So whats the bet?. His first pass is a reception or interception? Will Jus be a running back? Will we win or lose by 8 or less?

Top 5 draft pick looks even better now. At any rate, the RAVENS need a lot of good players to join this team. We can now see what all of our real needs are. It will be very interesting to watch how we do during the off season. It is definitely rebuilding time now for the RAVENS.

Matt will do very well after a drive or two Joe had all the time in the world and threw one INT after another! Joe throw lame passes and they are way off target he throws his hands up like it's always the WRs fault when it's not just like throwing our Super Bowl away last season and everyone blamed Torrey not over here where I live everyone said he threw our season away and now we "FINALLY" get to see someone else under center because I really feel Joe is done look at the rams game he almost gave it away but the Defense stood tall! Matt will lite it up unless they hold him back to make Joe look good! QB Controversy in Baltimore! Joe is done it's on film for you haters! Come watch the game with me in Cleveland I met fans from Bmore and took pictures with them after a win if course! Don't hold Matt back and he will FLOURISH!
