[News] Matt Schaub: I'm Absolutely Ready

69 posts in this topic

Matt Schaub will go out and win a few games he has something to prove. I don't know his contract status? It would be nice if the Ravens had him on a 2 year deal, he proves himself the Ravens trade him for a 3rd or 4th round pick.

OZZIE! Please find someone to come in and compete with Schaub! Almost anyone they bring in could win the job after one day of practice!

It is a 1 year deal. Indeed, he does have something to prove. He's playing to continue his career as a back-up, either here or elsewhere. Even if he lights it up (odds are against that), it is highly unlikely he'll be seen by anyone as a viable starter.

I wouldn't expect a whole lot from Schaub. Our O-line is 3/5s new, we just lost our #1 running back, our #1 WR is on gone...so don't expect miracles. I just hope I don't hear fans crying that we let Tyrod go.

Schaub is a technician. What he may lack in the arm strength and zip that Joe had he makes up for in the sound fundamentals of running a west-coast, run-to-pass offense.

You get some patient, savvy one-cut RBs behind him, establish the run early, and your tightends disguise their blocks identically with their block-and-release patterns and you're in business.

The way he ran that 2012 Houston Texans offense was a thing of beauty. And the main reason we got him was because Kubiak left town. Schaub was the next best thing when it came to continuity in film study.

We can't forget that backup QBs are dangerous people in their first outings because no one has recent tape on them with their current personnel to study.

He should be interesting to watch against Cleveland especially considering we have a long week to prepare around him. After that it's just a matter of waiting and watching.

W/all due respect to Flacco, the way he was playing the last few weeks, Schaub can't do much worse. Go ahead and neg away, all you Flacco worshipers, but, you have to agree, or perhaps you're still in shock and hungover from guzzlin' all those purple kool aide shooters last night. Go Schaub!! Go Ravens!!

"He also has a strong understanding of the offensive system Baltimore runs, which is virtually the same scheme that he ran in Houston when Gary Kubiak was the head coach." Stop it!!! Just Stop it!!! You know dang well as I do and everybody else does, this is nothing that even resembles what Kubiak did last year as an offensive scheme. In Kubiaks offense Joe was crisp, his mechanics were on, he would hit his back foot and throw but mostly, we would run to set up the play action and then roll out and run the bootleg. Kubiaks scheme made our front line look great, under Trestman they just collapse. This is Trestmans offense, has been since the first play of the season, and just because the front office decided to feed the media the "this is kubiaks offense" crap to try and throw off other teams doesn't mean that 10 games in you still have to float this logic when even my 12 year old knows better. Please, just stop floating the company line of Kubiaks offense because you really look like you don't know football to those who really do.

Schaub SUCKS! He had one fluke of a good season and that was it! Only solace is that he can't screw up the season any more than it is.

Maybe if it was High School football.

I think when Flacco comes back, he will either be a much better quarterback from having an off year, or else be struggling from coming back from injury. Either way, I wish him luck in recovery as well as SSS, Perriman, Suggs, Zuttah, and Forsett. That's a lot of names, but we'll bounce back.

We all know Schaubs career, He did great in Houston, But last couple of years he had a tremendous problem with INTS, Im going to give Matt a chance to prove himself , Im hoping he gets the W this week and next and next, But we need a backup if schaub gets injured it wouldnt hurt us to have Bryn Renner back, He did good, reminded me of Drew bress by the way he played. Im going to support my team no matter what. Go ravens!

Trust, he will be better, and more precise with his execution. This is all with the assumption that Ozzie get some REAL WEAPONS in here for Flacco!! Lol

FWIW, Flacco was on track to top 4000 yards for the first time in his career. And it's simply not true to chalk that up to trailing all the time. On the contrary we've entered several 4th quarters with the lead. It's poetic that we're 3-7 in spite of that little-discussed fact. It just goes to show that with the era of the dink-and-dunk QBs and all the rules favoring WRs and the passing game and the pathological obsession with catering professional football via its rules to the big business of fantasy stats, you still need a dangerous running game in order to seriously compete. You ask Joe himself or even Harbs whether they'd sacrifice 1000 passing yards off of Joe's tally for a couple more wins and they'd both agree.

If our defense can keep a grip on the 20 plus yard plays and continue to hunt the ball up front we can eek out some close, low scoring, field position style of games. It's what has been dubbed 'AFC North' football.

I have faith in Shaub to carry this team forward in the absence of Flacco.

Anyone notice..ALL 3 OF OUR WINS HAVE BEEN BY JUSTIN TUCKER'S KICKS!!!

Agreed on the Tyrod part, Tyrod is going to net us a nice comp pick which will be very valuable since we can trade them now. Agreed on the no miracles part, We've got our WR1,2,3(at time of injury),5 on IR (4 can't seem to catch a cold this year), so after this first game (which is always a wildcard for backup QBs as Reed20Fence correctly points out) I'm not expecting a lot from MS. I'm hoping that he will be OK.

QB controversy on the horizon! Joe made this team look worse than it really is and now watch how they play!

Joe carried this team and is why we haven't been loosing by 30 each week. But in the end, the tape will reveal all, one way or another.

This team is looking at 2017 to even get close to the playoffs. Ravens made it to the playoffs with leaders and consistency and both take years to develop.

The Bears immediately called up Fales to the 53 man and cut Clausen, just so the Ravens (Trestman) couldn't sign him.

I still like Renner, yes he will likely get it handed to him, but as the coaches pointed out, he has a bit of that "It factor" which, like speed, you just can't teach.

Yeah, and you forgot Tallifierro, Waller, and Campanaro, too...  Not to mention the O-Line

Either way it has been a top 10 offense with a losing record. That should tell you most of the problems are on defense. Kubiak or Trestman our offense still has the one problem of finishing a drive off. Even with that, we have only had 3 games this season we scored under 20 points and not one game where in the last 2 or 3 minutes we didn't still have a chance to win the game. We have had a few where in the last few minutes the defense gave up the lead. Everyone wants to cry offense but the season much like last was lost on the secondary but this year also throw in a few times the LBs gave up too much in the middle making it look like the secondary was failing when in fact it was lack of coverage over the middle by LBs.Some of this also can be blamed on lack of a blitz but Suggs missing causes much of that and not by missing his sacks but by missing his coverage of the edge. He did so much more than just blitz but he commanded respect and that made it easier on the other side.

Well I for one will sit back and relax. Don't really care what happens going forward. Most of the players I would tune in to watch are sitting at home like me anyway.
