[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts vs. Rams

My thought is what happened to the Ravens privacy policy towards player injury? The immediate announcement of Joe's injury is stunning, I guess someone on the sideline must have x-ray vision to assess the immediate damage to his knee.

When you pay a top shelf QB and put little worth writing home about around him as supporting cast this is what you get. Besides Yanda who else is worth his weight in pesos? Osemele is solid and that's about it. SSS is on his last legs as a receiver, then... that's it! And you guys want to complain about Flacco. You can only make chicken salad from droppings when you're feeding pigs.

As easily as we postulate this team could have been 10-0 it could have been 0-10 with significantly more ease; don't believe me, go watch the games again. It's time for Bisciotti to do what he does as a Human Resources guru and get the personnel department of this organization right.

1. The defense has looked better. More aggressive. I am not a DPees fan but the D at least has played more aggressive since the break. 2. Can this nightmare season get worse? 3. Buck Allen looked great in his opportunity 4. We kill ourselves with penalties... some of that is poor officiating and some of that is poor play but it is consistently bad. 5. We still give too much cushion in the passing defense.

Get well soon Joe! You are one tough dude!

Yeah, Flacco is tough, this is one area nobody can argue about - his durability.  Seeing him not only get hurt today, but lost for the season (maybe longer) is surreal.  (Even my cousin who's a bandwagon Steelers fan hit me up to express shock.)  Ravens fans have been spoiled for so long - to not have to go through the back-up QB issues of other teams for the past 7 years - you'd almost think prior to today that Flacco was a superhero - incapable of being hurt.  I sure wish we had Tyrod Taylor right about now, but oh well... Can't cry over spilled milk.  I'll throw my support behind Schaub!  Get well soon Flacco.  GO RAVENS!

Maybe we can get Pagano back as defensive coordinator and we can get the ball rolling again on defense. Things like this have to happen in order for teams to get better. Flacco will learn from this and come back stronger than ever. This gives us a chance to get some good draft picks in here on an already solid team. Keep those chins up high Raven Nation. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!.....AND IT WANT BE PRETTY. GO Ravens

@GO_Ravens Do Pagano want to be a head coach again if he's release from the Colts? If he does there is no point in bring him in for one year then collapse the next. He needs to stay as a defensive coordinator then I will consider him but if not we need another aggressive defensive coordinator that will stay couple of years.

There's one take to get from this game really: fate seems to be tying to tell us in ever more clearly that it wants us to get the top pick of the next draft...

But really: "I'll take your team's leader (Suggs) in week #1. Still wanna play ball? OK, how about making you lose most of your games maddeningly close - like one score losses? And, in the same time, I'll make one of your division rivals start 8:0, giving away any realistic hopes of "still making the playoffs". Still not giving in, you bone-headed lot? OK, I'll start taking down your key pieces then, one by one. Let's start with your our only consistently effective weapon, Steve Smith. Then kill any hopes of seeing Flacco's favourite target, Pitta back any time soon. Then your center. Then your starting RB. Still don't get it? OK, your QB. How about now?"

The frightening part is that the next logical loss would be Tucker, then Koch...

Don't get me wrong, I don't mean any of this of course. With the exception of Flacco's injury, this all may be even beneficial for us - the season's been long over for us anyway, we can treat the second half of the season as a very long and invaluable "pre-pre-season", where our young guns and backups can get real NFL-game experience with no risk that they cost us a palyoff spot. But Flacco may not be back for the start of next season - and that does complicate things. While it may be beneficial for us contract- and thus cap space-wise (though not necessarily), We may need to get a QB who is good enough to keep the ship straight until Flacco gets back, but is willing to take the - rather high - risk that he'll lose the starting position as soon as Flacco gets back... The best would be if it turned out that Schaub isn't as hopeless as most of us would think - but hey...

For the short run, the most logical step seems to be bringing Renner back - he's available, he knows the system, the players, and he would come on the cheap. But a Schaub/Renner  tandem at QB isn't exactly our dream depth chart at QB, is it? Even if it would only be a couple of games Flacco misses next season...

BTW, do we know what the most likely scenario for Flacco's injury timeline is?

(With all the sarcasm I can muster): Don't you just love how Pats' fans interpret all the bad things happening to us this season in terms of the Patriots? It just makes them and that lovely team of theirs all the more endearing.

Almost seems as though Flacco and Tucker were under orders to keep the game close, but do what they could to ensure the Ravens barely lost (Joe's glaringly awful picks and Tuckers' missed FG again) to ensure our draft position. Then, the Rams got chippy and the Ravens decided to win it for pride. I know that's not what happened, but one wonders.

That wouldn't be bad as it wouldn't make a Week#1 appearance absolutely unlikely... And it's a rather important question whether he must be replaced for one or two games, or quarter/half the season... The first one doesn't necessarily warrant getting a starting caliber QB on the market at all costs, the second one definitely does (if we have any plans of making the playoffs in 2016).

It was funny learning today that Sam Koch is our 3rd string qb.

Fun fact: while he was here, the emergency QB option was Anquin Boldin - as he played QB in high school ;)

and BTW, Koch is the perfect solution, as he has a 100% completion rate (1/1) and a 100% first down rate (that lone pass - a fake punt - went for a 1st down) :D :D :D

After a day of reflection... 5 new thoughts:

1. Hurst being in there really is a threat to our players safety. Re-watch the play where Joe got hurt. Hurst looks like a rag doll-but Hurst is what he is... a UDFA playing the blind side. Monroe is the bigger disappointment. Never healthy and never available to do his job. Monroe is a liability more then an asset. 2. Our front 7 is starting to look like the were expected to... We heard all of the noise about the Rams front 7 (and I know they had some out as we did) but our front seven outplayed their front seven. 3. I really do think Trestman has this offense heading in the right direction. We moved the ball well-against a good defense...with minimal weapons. I look forward to what he can do in the future. (Matt Forte is a FA- they have the connection... He wont be back in chicago with langford looking like a superstar- I wonder if he will be a raven next year). 4. Why are we so indiscipline with stupid penalties? It wasnt just yesterday - its been all season. Is this coaching.... is it lack of discipline. Either way... its not trending better... it is clearly trending worse and has probably been the difference in 5 games for us this season. 5. What Mr. Ellison James is going through puts everything into perspective. Football is a game... and while this game impacts lives (Joe, Forsett, Sizzle, Zuttah, SSS, etc) it pales in comparison to real life tragedies. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Mr. James!

The pocket was collapsing all day and Joe never moves beyond the rush to find a spot to throw giving WRs and chance to shake defenders and Offensive linemen a break from just taking sacks when all he has to do is move! Smh hope the Ravens Don't hold Matt back with just run plays up the middle because Matt is gonna create a "QB CONTROVERSY" in Baltimore!

"If any silver lining exists, it’s that the Ravens have just about run out of marquee players who could ruin their next victory by getting hurt."

Hey, John, what's the deal with tempting fate like this? How about Tucker as a marquee player? The guy who ultimately won us all three games we on this season? ;)

Your #4 thought, the penalties. You say that it's been a problem all season but, actually, it's been longer than that. We were bad in that department last year too. It's just gotten worse this season. Listen, this just Has to fall onto the coaches at some point. Yes, it's a shame that our players seem to lack the ability to play with an adequate level of self discipline and, also, the lack of intelligence to realize the game situation and to play accordingly. But, since this seems to be the case, given the length of time that this problem has been an issue, at what point do we look at the coaches and expect them, especially the HC, to find a way to reel these players in and do whatever it takes to give them the incentive to play with enthusiasm, yes, but, also, with more intelligence and self control? Fines, short stretches on the bench, WHATEVER it takes. Cutting marginal players like repeat offenders Asa Jackson and Jeremy Ross doesn't appear to be having Any impact or message to, or on, these players. When this just continues and continues, and just shows No signs of improvement, it really makes me wonder just how much respect these players have for Harbaugh. I can't believe that he hasn't talked to the team about this but, if he has been, it certainly doesn't appear to have made any difference or improvement. Our team has been among the leading teams in having penalties accessed. Consistently. Please, Harbs, do Something. Don't lose these players or the locker room, if you haven't already. Somehow, some way, you have to clean this up. It has contributed greatly, among other things of course, to where this team is right now. It is just SO frustrating and difficult to watch week in and week out, over and over. I'd just like, so much, to see us start to turn in the right direction with this persistent problem.

Even if it was against the Rams, defense showing improvement... ??? Eisenberg, are you on Dean Pees' payroll? The Ravens played a terrible team today... And the officiating was again atrocious!

No doubt. Case Keenum is pathetic. They didnt fool anyone in that horrendous secondary

I've been a "RavenManiac" since season one. Because I love my team immensely, I can remember one other time that I, actually, thought it to be in our best interests to lose as many games as possible, basically all of them. That was when I was totally convinced that Brian Billick had to go because he had, obviously, lost the locker room. And I figured that the only way Bisciotti would fire Billick was if we piled up loss after loss. Now, I find myself with the same thought. For our best interests, I hope we lose all our remaining games. It's for a different reason this time. I want us to get the best draft choices that we can get because it's blatantly obvious that we have a Lot of needs, we're rebuilding, and the playoffs are ABSOLUTELY out of the question. So, my brain tells me that, again, in the best interests of the team we should lose. But, herein lies the problem. Even knowing that, my Heart doesn't seem to allow me to hope for that when the games are actually being played. My brain and my heart are definitely at odds with each other. My brain sees the value in losing, but my heart wants us to win All the time. So, what happens is that I tell myself All the time, I hope we lose today. And then the game starts, I'm watching, and I find myself rooting like the dickens that we find a way to pull it out and win the game. I mean, I'm rooting and screaming like a banshee for that win. It's kind of crazy, but that's what happens to me week after week. It happened to me when I wanted Billick gone, and now it's happening to me when I want the best draft choice we can possibly get. Life can sometimes be confusing and difficult for a "RavenManiac."

problem about defensive development is that with the CBA, by next year they will have regressed to the point they were at the start of training camp. Then they start all over to finally gel around the 7th or 8th game of the season. This CBA is killing player careers and is killing the entertainment of football. With Flacco's injury, there are now 8 backup qb's starting in the NFL next week. How much parity is there in that?

No one thinks losing is a good idea unless you want to develop a culture of losing amongst your young players.  No way I want our players thinking it is ok to lose.  Having said that, I don't think we need to hope they will, I think with the Flacco injury, it is guaranteed they will lose.  For those who didn't think Joe was carrying this team alone, wait and see what Schaub does and you will be amazed Joe did what he did with what he had.

Instead of Schaub, call Vinny Testaverde! Hell, dig up Johnny U! Anything but Schaub! Practically anyone they bring in will win that job! Imagine if the Ravens were able to keep Tyrod!
