Are we entering a dark era?

Regardless of who's at fault, I think it's time for a change. There's no way you can defend Pees putting his corners ten yards off of the WR on 3rd and short. I'd love to hear an explanation for that.

That's easy.  DCs don't tell CBs to play 10 yards off.  The players primarily line up how they are comfortable with few exceptions.  Jimmy has played press before with no over the top help, because he felt comfortable.  An example is the Raiders game.  Jimmy was less than half a yard from Cooper on that long TD play because he felt comfortable pressing (it's his thing) even though he had no over the top help.  Unfortunately, he was beat right at the line, badly.  Pees has had to blitz more than normal this season because he only has one true pass rusher (see Torrey's TD as example).

I'm not sure why fans think the DC says "play press" or "play 10 yards off" or whatever.  Cornerbacks make that determination based on their comfort, confidence, and the play call.  Any CB that plays press coverage against a deep threat when they have no over the top coverage is flat out stupid.  It's exactly why no matter the play call, if Joe and Torrey saw press coverage with no safety deep, they knew to ignore the play and go for that go route.

Then there's also the fact most fans that complain about this also bring it up in zone coverage when it doesn't make sense for a corner to press on a zone scheme (unless he has a shallow zone which is primarily for slants anyway).

And finally, most fans don't really look at the presnap coverage anyway.  I've seen a few times on here people have complained about the secondary playing "10 yards off" when they rarely did.  But because they got beat, people went back to the usual complaints.

In short, CBs determine where they play.  I mean, if you think about it, it's obvious.  Do you really think every playbook has multiple versions of each play that the team must memorize?  One where both corners press, one where one CB presses and one plays 10 yards off, one were both corners play 10 yards off, one were one corner is 5 yards off and the other is 10 yards off, one with a press and a 5 yard off coverage, etc?  I mean, if you're realllllly paying attention you'll see the same defensive coverage called weekly that has corners in different spots.  Fans need to stop holding on to complaints as a crutch.

Isn't it a nice "coincidence" that the one year of his you call "solid" is the year he had the least amount of injuries to deal with?

They still played bend don't break, and broke eight times. I take back solid. It was average at best.
