Flacco out for season

856 posts in this topic

Anyone who says things like that immediately exposes their lack of football knowledge. It's fun to make them feel stupid.

hence why I quoted that post. I criticise him when he needs it but dumb posters like that make my blood boil. It's why everyone is so defensive of him

lmao, wasn't our defense like the worst in history for a superbowl winning team? Yea he needs great defense...

You sure can lyao, but that doesn't change my opinion. Our defense during the SB run especially in the playoffs was relatively healthy and we were a great red zone defense (bend but don't break). But, you don't remember that I suppose? I am not undermining Flacco by any means, but just stating what I believe to be true. Can you still lyao? Or have you laughed it off you body?

Life without Joe looks pretty bad.

Some folks just don't appreciate what we have....  I know you do... And I do too.  I really miss Joe.

His streak I feel bad about and the fact he had to rehab. Truth is, him playing would be detrimental to the team, at this point. Probably win the Fins game with him at qb dropping our pick.

What's funny is a few posters said we needed a bad season for a reality check, coming into the season.

the Joe haters will still find a reason to think he's not the answer and that we can easily find something better.. Ppl think franchise QBs are just sitting around waiting on phone calls

Have you totally forgotten the second half collapse that almost lost the game?

We are lucky to have him. Id rather have him over Matt Ryan anyday personally.

Why is it that our WR's are playing MUCH better WITHOUT Joe? I know he has severe tunnel vision but jeez. It's like a whole different WR core now.

We are clearly playing to their strengths and scheming them properly now. I'm convinced they have emphasized more on the supporting cast without Joe because they believed before that all they needed to do was focus on Joe alone and the rest would work itself out.

Took us THAT long? Should've done that day 1.

After thinking about this for a while, I think there are multiple factors in play. We started out with a new OC and mostly new WR corps. It took a while for Trestman to figure out who was good at what in game situations. In the meanwhile, he tried to rely on what he had In Flacco and SSS. Losing them forced him to try something else.

I hate seeing stuff like this.  That "healthy" defense gave up 400 yards per game on average (most for a superbowl winning defense in playoff history) and gave up 30+ twice (no other superbowl winning defense has to my knowledge).  They set records for being a bad playoff defense.

Yes they did some good things.  Colts game was decent.  The second half of the Patriots game was good.  Both were good because of turnovers, not because they simply limited the opposition in yards.  Just because they were healthy doesn't mean they were good.

To be fair life with Joe was pretty bad this season too.

Not for the offense outside of the Broncos game. We were setting team records.

Absolutely Mod 3.  We began losing pieces pretty quickly....  Camp, Waller, Gillmore, SSS;  They started dropping like flies.  Joe was on pace to have one of his best statistical seasons of his career.  When you say that "Joe was pretty bad this season", I think you're summing that up to be responsible for the entire offense.  Prior to him going down, we were averaging about 23 - 27 points per game.  A couple we actually scored over 30.  When our defense was hurting, he was putting the points up that kept us in MANY of those games....  Defense is starting to come together (except for yesterday), and you have the offense putting up 13,, 19, and 6, respectively.

The grass is always greener for some fans.

the same defense that was a historic worst for a superbowl winning team in the playoffs? That defense that he needed to win the superbowl?

whole team collapsed after the lights went out.

offense managed 2 FGs , 2 punts and a fumble in the 2nd half not counting the safety because that was intended.

its a myth that the offense played like they did in the first half and only the defense collapsed.

Yeah, the one that almost let the Niners win the game in the second half after the lights went out.

they got the stop in the end. Whole team went to crap atter the lights. Offense had that key 3rd down completion to boldin and the defense got the stop. Other than that not much of anything went our way after the lights went out

Yeah. I'm not sure what happened, but it was like the entire team lost its momentum. Probably a good explanation for the cause of the change in play for both sides of the ball.

the lights going out gave the 9ers another timeout to realize they were still in the game.

they looked beat, big time....amazing what extra time to think can do for you...it was like 2 half times to figure something out

There were other games when the offense was downright horrible outside of the Broncos game. The first Steelers game comes to mind.

Why is it that our WR's are playing MUCH better WITHOUT Joe? I know he has severe tunnel vision but jeez. It's like a whole different WR core now.

With Joe:

SSS, Aiken, M.Brown, Campanaro, Waller, Givens, Ross, Perriman (DNP but still took up a roster spot)

Without Joe:

Aiken, Givens, Butler, D. Brown, Matthews, Clay

IR: SSS, Campanaro, Waller, Perriman, M. Brown (might as well be)

Cut: Ross

If it seems "It's like a whole different WR core now" that's BECAUSE IT IS.

Also, Aiken and Givens have both improved after moving up in the depth chart to our #1 WRs, as they've gotten more reps in practice and more snaps in games.

I think you completely missed my point. I'm talking about the team as a whole. We weren't much better with Flacco in there. The record shows that.

We did lose a lot of games, but it's hard for me to find a 35-6 loss anywhere in the Joe games. We were at least competitive and made teams work for it.

Looks to me you're the one missing a point - this is about Joe and the offense. They aren't responsible for crap defense play.

A loss is a loss. Regardless if it's 35-6 or 27-24.

That's an incredibly simplistic way of looking at it. Not all losses are the same. By that logic, all wins are the same so all 6-0 teams are the same, and you can ask the Panthers and Falcons how that theory turned out.
