Flacco out for season

I'm talking about the guys that defend him as to say we don't need another QB in the mix.

He's never had a good receiving core?  Boldin & Torrey & Pitta & Rice? (Healthy with tread on the tires)  Most teams would die to have that lineup.

Yes, the one year we put decent (not even great) weapons around him, he carries us to a SB. Imagine that. Not bad for an overpaid game manager

He was asked not to lose the game. Much like we asked Flacco for most of his career here.

If you honestly believe that, and aren't trol'n....you need to sit down and actually pay attention to the game while you watch. I truly believe that you are confusing Flacco for Boller, that is the ONLY way I can make any sense out of your posts.

One great run doesn't make you a great QB.

Weird. Could have sworn you claim Flacco is a glorified game manager (or in the case of your post above, claim we just ask him not to lose the game). Which is it exactly?

Not sure what you mean here, they are both the same thing.

Yes Fly i do believe Flacco is a slightly above average QB....... So do you......  You are just having a hard time admitting it.

You know what i find funny? People that argue for him use other QB's to try to drive their point home.

If you guys wanna debate Flacco how about not using the Superbowl run and talk to me about his pocket mechanics, His over and under throws, turnovers, and how he just looks lost all together at times on the football field in his eighth season.

I am happy we have him. We have stability at the QB position which we didn't have until he got here. Who cares how good he is or how elite he is? He is great in spurts, durable and dependable enough to take us to a SB when we put together a winning roster. Nobody is claiming he is the next Johny Unitas or Joe Montana, but he is exactly what the Ravens need and have. I would instead focus on the rest of the roster for now. Give him a decent O-line, a potent run game and WRs and play great Ravens D and we are on our way to another SB.

It means that you claim that he is nothing but a game manager, and the team just asks him not to lose the game.

In reality, he carried us to the SB, even by your admission of the fact that he had a great postseason run (arguably the greatest ever). It's contradictory.

Everything about this is just, well to be polite, silly.

First off, everyone here knows I practically worship the guy. See my sig. I say he is a top 5 QB. At worst.

Secondly, obviously you compare a player to his contemporaries to gauge where he is at. It is...silly...to not comprehend that.

Third, it is also....silly....to discount his accomplishments and only focus on what you percieve as his flaws.

I'll give you his mechanics have been inconsistent, at best, this year. So what? Overall, he has still played well. He looks lost? That is an absolute joke, not worthy of a response. His over/underthrows? For every one of them, he makes three or four throws very few QBs on this planet would dare attempt, much less actually complete.

How did we win the 2012 SB?? Certainly not because of our defense and running game...so...how did that happen?

You didn't see it? The defense that year was insane, carried the team by nearly giving up the game like that.

In all seriousness, the 2012 defense was worse than any defense Brady won a Super Bowl with. Arguing that is the reason we won the Super Bowl does not make much sense to me.

Is it any wonder people go out of their way to defend him when people like that post crap about him?

I'd like tru etc that claim to be totally neutral to call out virginia, but we know the won't because while they claim to be neutral, they actually aren't.

Flacco is in a situation with the weapons around him he has to be perfect on every play. If he holds on to it slightly to long he gets hit with our makeshift left side. If he doesn't hold onto it long enough out receivers can't get open.

If he isn't perfect in ball placement without a boldin or smith to get the ball they don't get caught.

When he drives us down the field to take the game winning lead late in the fourth the defense squanders it and he and the rest of the offense have to try to do it again.

Too many variables, to many issues on this team that means he has to play virtually perfect for us to win, and he just isn't perfect.

Hes good for a couple of awful throws game. Some will be wide open misses, others bad picks, some just awful decisions. He has a couple a game, no denying it. Maybe he's trying to hard, maybe the defense confused him, maybe it was just a poor throw.

But every qb has those. What flacco give us is the ability to hit every level of the defense, make ever throw. He can scramble a bit to buy more time, he can carry us when needs be, evidenced by his superbowl run, he can be great with some help around him.

He won't, like every qb, carry a team with absolutely no weapons.

First off, this was clever.  Let me clarify.

Every QB in the Nfl (that starts) is throwing for more than 230 yards a game that is not named CAM NEWTON (who doesn't have to because he relies on his stellar defense and manages the game well.  The other QB being Ryan Fitzpatrick. (who just lost the starting gig- i think).

Player that fits the bill. Kirk Cousins - Not on Rookie contract and is putting up these kind of numbers. also not making 15 mil

Everyone else would be projects. That is what i'm talking about take a chance on a project guy.  Lord knows we are still seeing growing pains in our eight year starter

Kirk Cousins averages an INT per game with no signs of improvement.

Not a good thing.

Looks a lot like Aaron Rodgers right now then? You realized you just described him for about the last half season.

Its funny but so does Joe.

Coming in to this week and he didn't even play last week.

An int a week is not that big of a deal if on the other side you are countering with scores of your own.

It's just he doesn't score the football enough to average a pick a game.  He only has 14 tds to 12 picks. With two fumbles. so he is literally a 50/50 guy.

I knew I shouldn't have clicked the thread and I know I shouldn't post in it...there's no point, everyone has their right to have an opinion. Even if it's inaccurate :)

Joe is a 50/50 QB? TD to INT ratio? No. In 2013 the year Joe threw his career high INTs he was left with nothing but Torrey Smith at WR...and I know people love Torrey, great guy for sure, but he isn't that great...lot of flaws in his game. We all know about Pitta...

Joe has Torrey and no one and the Oline can't block...we also have ZERO run game that year. Joe will try to make a play and push the ball resulting in INTs. Every QB for the most part has been guilty of this.

The Ravens didn't learn anything from 2013 because they basically did the same thing this year. Steve Smith and no one at WR...although Aiken has been a nice option, he would be a great 3rd or 4th WR!!! Not a #2...and certainly not a #1. This year we do have some young TEs but they are young and still growing...the run game has been mostly a nonfactor imo. Had a few decent games.

The defense is so bad the offense feels like it has to score every time out..Joe's WRs are slow and wouldn't be on anyone elses active roster. TEs with 1 year of experience...an Oline that again struggled for the most part and has been injured all year.

You should point fingers at the front office, they didn't learn from history. Joe has done more with less for his entire career...the Ravens finally get a QB and they never surrounded him with weapons.....except for the one year he had Boldin, Smith, Pitta, Rice...and he won a SB.

Joe Flacco isn't the problem...the one thing he can improve would be his footwork, other than that give him some legit WRs and let him go...wasting his prime playing him with below average at best playmakers. This years team is a joke as a whole...8 years without injury and his own backup lineman takes him out.

...i'm sure i didn't sway your opinion 'cause as taylor swift says haters gonna hate hate hate

hahaha...yeah

Its a two way street. Evidenced by the last 3 or 4 days in this thread, you have extremists on either side. One side feels the need to bash him to bring some down to a normal level and some over praise him to make up for that bashing. It's craziness. I'm not a Flacco lover (I'd love for him to be the 4,500 yard and 30 TD guy every year), but u see what he is. He's an average to above average starting quarterback in the NFL. He can amaze in spurts, but will also make you wonder why just as much. You can certainly win a SB with him under center and you can also easily have a 2-14 season. He's a top 10 guy. Would I like more consistency? Absolutely! As dumb as it is, would I like to see him play with more fire or passion (not saying he doesn't have it, just visually it can be inspiring to others)? Yes. We're in a better position regarding the quarterback position than most teams. I'll take it.

But allow me and others to criticise him when he fails or messes up. He's not absolved from criticism or expecting more from. I'd get on any player that made a mistake in a game. It's part of being a fan. /rambling post

The only problem i have with these kinds of post are

You make claims that the things we post about him are crap right?-  I posted facts!

Your making excuses about the weapons he has available. - All of these guys play in the NFL.  I can make a case that there are other starting QB's in this league that have worst receivers then ours (CAROLINA).

You are making statements about game winning drives.  I can think of 1 game off the top of my head  this season he gave away. (DENVER) and the San Francisco (depend on how you look at it).

Perfect ball placement-  This i might be able to consider  giving the fact that Marlon Brown is still on this team and was ever named a starter in any package. (SMH)

The part of your post i highlighted is why he is no longer absolved from any wrongdoing.  He is still making Boneheaded decisions with the football in his eighth season.

Flacco has had a hand full of games that he has carried this team.  He is not carrying the team in no way, shape or form for the most part.  This being the main reason he is not worth his contract.  Let's draft a rookie QB and teach him how to manage a game.  Give him a strong line.  A beast running back.  Work off the playaction.  Get in the playoffs.  And see where that takes us.

Who's the true No. 1?  Most teams wouldn't and didn't.  They'll take a piece here and there.  What have Boldin and Torrey done for the 9ers?

Joe's never had a great and true #1.....

He's had no "Larry Fitzgerald"...  he's had no "A.J. Green"...  He's had no "Megatron"...  He's had no "Antonio Brown"...  He's had no "Dez Bryant"...  He's had no "Odell Beckham".

And we will hold judgement until Perriman hits the field next season.....

hahaha...yeah

Me too scrock....

He's a 4,000 yard passer in a run-first offense...  He's not even a 50 or 60 pass a game QB.

And Virginia...  EVERY QB has a bad throw, and most do in every game.  So, in order to be acceptable, One has to be PERFECT.  Even Br*dy and Manning throw boneheaded throws... and typically in every game they play.  It's gonna happen...

I just believe that we have relentless haters out here too Scrock.

Flacco done for the year and we're now on a 35-page topic once again discussing whether he's good or not.

There are plenty here on both sides. Imo there are many pretenders on both sides. Plenty of people attempt to look neutral but aren't. I'm not one to generally call someone out but these attempts are very transparent imo.

Flacco could certainly be better but I don't see him as an average QB. I see an above average, top 10 QB and I'm good with that. I think it's hard to argue that he's top 10. While you could certainly argue he's top 5, I think that's a more difficult argument.

There's my occasional post on the subject. Time to stick my head in the dirt again.

Agree with you GRIM,

I like joe and I do think he is above average,he has his brain farts from time to time but that is why he is joe.

the only real talents joe lacks (imo) is WR he has never had that . this is why I am such an advocate of us drafting a WR early, if BP works out then guess what, yes we end up with young WR's along with our young TE's to match our young RB's,, the future looks bright,

We all should be able to agree on that right?

We have already seen this done multiple times in the past.

Once right here in Baltimore.

Big Ben's first Bowl

Mark Rypien

Russell Wilson(might be an exception)

Phil Simms

Troy Aikman

Jim Mcmahon

Brad Johnson

Eli-(might make this list)

The all had good teams and marginal QB's.  So does the truth about Flacco seem more realistic?

Throw out your own two exceptions and you're giving us a bunch of guys from the 80's and early 90's, and saying that's the direction you want this team to go in. Draft a mediocre game-manager so we can pay out at other positions,

I hate to break it to you, but the league has changed a lot in the last 20-30 years. This strategy simply will no longer work in today's "quarterback-driven" NFL.

The only one of your examples even remotely relevant is rookie Roethlisberger, and none of your current examples - Cam, Alex Smith, Dalton, Cutler, Stafford, Rivers - have even been to the dance, so what's the point?

Which brings us to Russell Wilson, who is, at times, transcendent. And Eli - he's probably more like Flacco than anybody on your list. Periodic streaks of brilliance mixed in with occasional mind-numbing boneheadedness. But you know, come crunch time, he can get you there.

I would 10X rather suffer through a season like this one with Joe, than have suffered through the last five with Andy Dalton, because, pardon me, my vision's still a little hazy from all that Super Bowl glitter falling just a few short years ago, and there's no doubt in my mind Joe can get us back there. A mediocre rookie game-manager? Meh, not so much.

Troy aikman was slightly above mediocre. He just played on a really good team.

Reminds me of Joe.

And that statement, right there, ladies and gentlemen, is why we need to stop arguing with this guy.

Peace Out :)

I agree Grim...

I'm not saying he's the best in the league, but I refuse to say he's "average".  He's not.  He's way better than average.  And I can't believe the number of people out here that are actually believing we could do so much better.  Look how other teams have struggled to find that Franchise QB.  Even when they thought they had him.  Look at Romo!  Look at guys like that who have NEVER won the big one.  That's why I defend as I do.

Just because the TEAM a QB plays on hasn't won a SB doesn't mean what they thought they had wasn't true. Romo is a good QB, Marino was a GREAT QB and Dilfer was at best a serviceable QB. 2 didn't win a SB.
