Flacco out for season

856 posts in this topic

Call it 60/40 in favor of being more crazy that he's considered overpaid by some.

He's overpaid as are a lot of NFL Qb's.  Teams are suffering because of it.  They can't acquire the help they need to be great.

now your posts make sense

I dont see why its so far fetched. Even before his injury this year, he lost us more games then he won.

I cant be sure, but the team looks like they are playing harder with more life, now that he is gone.

Flacco is not the only player on this team and he is far from the best player on this team. SSS leaving was a bigger blow then Flacco. Thats should tell you everything you need to know.

I hate Flacco threads lol

This topic needs to be discussed.  No longer will Flacco be absolved from poor play or scrutiny.  His play has been marginal for his entire time in the league, minus a phenomenal Super Bowl run.

We can argue he doesn't have great pieces, but even in that argument your saying he is getting paid to much to get quality help.

Because we totally have a say in what the front office decides to do.....

He's overpaid as are a lot of NFL Qb's.  Teams are suffering because of it.  They can't acquire the help they need to be great.

And the salary cap is going up for this very reason. That goes for everyone btw.

I hate Flacco threads lol

Removed the word to make more accurate about the depiction of this whole thread

My point being to all of you guys is this; you can win in this league with a marginal QB if your stout at every position.

Flacco is a marginal QB that shines at times and is dull about the same amount.  He is not getting paid like a marginal guy.  SOOOOOO........ we dont need him at his number.  I don't care if it's a phantom figure.  At this point im so ready to jump back on the QB carousel and take my chances.  Its not like the guy has proven to be irreplaceable.

You guys really kill me with this whole debate that he's our guy.

Flacco is an average QB that flashes greatness from time...................to time (a long pause in between those periods).

We need to draft some real competition this year at the QB position.  The Flacco debate is over!!!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. *Takes deep breath* Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

This is adorable. First off. Yes, he has his faults. But he's far and away superior to the other QBs you put him ahead. He will make boneheaded plays and then make an amazing one. He's highly dependent on his supporting cast, but the front office doesn't care.

Do you understand how difficult it is to find a SB caliber QB?C Butler, Bortles, Ryan,Tannehill,Smith, Cousins and Carr(well.. Not yet. Ryan is the only one here I consider to be SB Caliber. Carr has that ceiling), are NOT good enough to win a super bowl.. You know how I know he's good enough. He's done it. He has playoff success and has activiated a beast mode in the playoffs that none of these guys have done. For all of Flacco's faults, he's done one thing each of his last three years we have made the playoffs. He has showed up in a big way and has played like a Super MVP during the playoff run. He has his faults, but I'd rather stick with him then ride that vaunted carousel again for another decade.

All players that play the QB position and make the playoffs in the NFL have a chance at being a Superbowl winning QB.

Apparently looking at Big Ben's numbers in his first Super Bowl you can manage a game if need be, when you make it there.

This, kinda being my point.  You don't need a Big arm QB to win a Super Bowl.

You just need a guy that doesn't turn the ball over, and manages the game. With Flacco's current contract we are all but saying; "We are going to ride you to another Superbowl".

When the past two seasons after losing some of our key pieces to free agency (Pernell Mcphee.....i'm still mad about this ) he has yet to make a return to the playoffs.

So your Golden guy is trending in the wrong direction.

Which furthers my point. If we are able to get a guy, that can give us 230 yards a game and two scores, while limiting turnovers, we can win.

A guy like that just can't cost 120 million.

Top QBs got paid a large amount of cap for a while but it has expanded to pretty much all franchise QBs nowadays.

Hard to find franchise QBs. Remember when everyone thought Kaep or RG3 were the future? Dalton had a down year last season and ppl wondered if Cam Newton was overrated and now they both are getting MVP buzz.

It's hard to figure out the value of the QB you have. Might be the hardest and most expensive evaluation process in the league.

Flacco looked good this season (even if his mechanics need work; we need a better QB coach) and I feel that he and Trestman might be in for a killer 2016 season.

Yeah agreed on that, franchise QBs have only gotten more important as well with the increase in passing nowadays.

So, you don't expect a guy that averages, over 16 games, 3,680 yards and 32 TD passes while having few turnovers to cost just as much? Also I bet most teams would love that guy lmao.

Frankly if Caron wanted to play QB I would love for the Ravens to sign him. A. Guaranteed #1 pick. B. Hysterical.

But can he throw pick sixes?

1. Flaccos contract doesn't really become a cap problem until this offseason. That's a Rice and Ngata issue really.

2. No you don't need a big armed(though your point there is moot cause Ben has a cannon for an arm as well) QB. You need a good one.

Over the past 15 years there have been three exceptions to the rule of needing a franchise QB to win a SB(Flacco isn't one of them).

1. Dilfer

2. Brad Johnson

3. Rookie Roethlisberger

All three won the big dance in spite of their QBs. A rarity. So yes. You can. But you would need to put together a legendary defense and have an elite running game to make up for it.

I'll give you a hint... WE WON OUR SB BECAUSE OF JOE. Sorry. Our defense that year was one of the worst I've ever seen win a SB. And Flacco was in a position to do it again last year had we had a healthy secondary.

And clearly you don't have an understanding of basic economics. Supply and demand.

You see. If we were to foolishly cut Flacco... He would last a collective 10 seconds on the open market with the Cleveland Browns (I believe they're first in waiver order) getting an actual competent QB and suddenly having a chance to become competitive. To an equal contract to what he got, possibly more. Why? Because you usually need a franchise QB to win a SB. Teams like Clevleland, hell CINCI would kill to have a guy like Flacco. Flacco behind the Benglas with all those weapons and that defense would probably lead them to a few SB victories.

Flacco has had a down year. But when literally your whole line has been hurt at some point, your top 3 WRs got hurt. No QB can suceed. So tell me? What makes you think Alex Smith is going to do any better?

The debate is over. We are keeping him. There is nothing you can do about it.

Thank god the board members(myself included) do not make the personel decisions.

QB cost alot.

heck they cost the most.

120 mil is just a figure to many people are focused on.

that number can be deceiving cause its really about how that contract is structured and how much of it is guaranteed.

the way flacco contract was structured was actually to make it cheap for the first 3 years and its pretty much the SB window we had on this contract.

if he gets a new similar deal it will create another 2/3 year to make a SB run.

Cam, Eli, Rivers, Romo are all better than Flacco.  He is in company with Cutler, Bortles, Ryan,Tannehill,Smith, Cousins and Carr.  This tells me he is not worth what we are paying him.

The thing is, for a glorified game manager his salary is not even close.

Based on what? Its easy to throw out opinions... its difficult when you actually have to support them.

So its that easy huh. All you have to do is get an average QB and be exceptional at literally like 15 other positions on the team? That's all huh?

And this, ladies and gentleman, is why fans don't run NFL franchises.

1. Except you can't, because you are envisioning a game manager who literally is never behind in a game. Explain to me how a game manager is going to bring his team back from a deficit, which is a requirement for 100% of teams in history to do, because no team plays with the lead the entire season (especially in the playoffs). How well do game managers do when their team is trailing by double digits in the 4th quarter?

2. Name me a QB in the NFL right now who consistently throws for 230 yards/game and 2 TDs a game, not on their rookie contract, that plays for less than $15M+ a year? Again, I don't think you have any clue what the cost of a mediocre QB in the NFL is.

I don't care about the phantom $120M number and not sure why you keep bringing it up. It means nothing.
