Flacco out for season

856 posts in this topic

Absolutely. It will be like watching a different team.

Well we pretty much are.

How many players on offense were starters in September will be starting for us this Monday night ?

Less than half ?

I just got kind of happy for a second about our season.

Imagine if we were having a great season, maybe even undefeated and THEN lost Flacco for the season.

We'd be playoff bound with no chance of winning.. We'd end up with a late pick again and no ammo to improve the roster, and have nothing really left to hope for this season.

At least we lost him in a year that was already a lost cause and having Flacco was about the only thing that could ruin our chances at getting a top pick.

Always look on the brighter side of life.

How many guys on the team period are tenured Ravens??

Everyone's either a recent draft pick or a FA acquisition. It's Tucker, Yanda, Jimmy, Webb and Upshaw.

Not many guys that I really identify with as RAVENS.

True, but Joe was one of the remaining links to successful times, the most visible one. It will be very odd not seeing him under center.

I'll answer your question with one of my own...how many times has one of our RBs taken a screen, broke a tackle and ran it in for a score?

this season not 1 time but i still dont see what this has to do with flacco ending up on IR.

so if we threw a screen to a RB and he then broke a tackle for a TD it would have magicially prevented flacco from being injured?

i really love to know what brady throwing a screen pass to a rb for a TD has to do with flacco being out for the season due to an ACL tear lol,

i have no idea how james white was supposed to have prevented flacco from being on IR tbh.....

I hate pre season games.

I hate this season.

Shoot, at this point I'm downright excited about next preseason compared to rest of this year.

I'm going to predict that Joe will make it back in time for the first preseason game. And maybe even Perriman will make an appearance.

Everyone should blame me. I've had the jersey curse going for a few years now.

I bought a Ray Lewis jersey before the '12 season ---> he retires

I bought a Rice jersey before the '13 season ---> has his worst season yet and...you know

I bought a T. Smith jersey before the '14 season ---> has his worst season since his rookie year and leaves in FA

I bought a Flacco jersey before the '15 season ---> tears his ACL, ends his streak

No more jerseys for me. Ever. EVER.

Visit the Salvation Army store, buy and wear a Browns jersey.  We play them Sunday.

Joe has a significant injury and he may not play the same or his value can sideline him for pre season.  The backups are the new commodity that Management will have on their shopping list.

I don't know whether to laugh or be disgusted at how the 1st time Flacco faces any significant injury so many of this fan base are ready to send him packing.

I hope like hell we come out fighting next week and get the win...  for Steve, Justin and the rest that have gone down this season, especially for Joe.

That guy has fought for this team for eight seasons...  never missed a game.  It is pretty hurtful.

I'll be happy if we just remain competitive but with Schaub and the way he was tossing INTs in the pre-season - not so sure that will happen.

Yeah and remained in the game with a torn ACL because he didn't want us to have clock issues and wanted to get us a win.

After seeing how people treated Ray and Ed, I don't know why it's shocking.

Just a few idjits. Not worth paying attention to.

Gotcha. Even I wouldn't say that...unless of course it was a trade for Rodgers or Manning from 10 years ago ;)

Joe's had 2 seasons where his offensive supporting cast has been decimated by injury: losing most of his WRs, TEs, RBs & OL.

In both of those seasons, Joe has also gotten seriously injured.

This is not a coincidence. When your pass protection and pass catchers are both bad, your QB is going to take more punishment. And with each hit, there's a chance that one could end his season.

For Joe to have stayed in the game with his knee all torn up, amazing.

No question he is one of the toughest QBs in the league, up there with Rivers, Eli, Newton, Luck, & Ben.

Shame he doesn't get the same recognition as those guys from the national sports media.

I was thinking this before Flacco got injured and I still want Flacco as our QB for the rest of his career but does anyone besides me think Marc Trestman turned Joe Flacco into Jay Cutler.  Jay is playing decent and he kinda sucks, and now we had Joe throwing multiple picks each game and I just see Cutler out their.  anyone else seeing that?

trestman was not the OC nor the QB coach....

flacco regression has more to do with the new QB coach and injuries around him on a team that was not stacked at the skill positions from the start to begin with.

actually dont think he has gotten that much worse at all TBH.

I agree, even though I question some of Trestmans play calls, I don't believe that Flacco has regressed.

His supporting cast just isn't good. I mean you go from Steve Smith Sr. and Kamar Aiken, which overall was an average supporting group of WRs considering Steve is the star, but Aiken is below average as a starter, to Aiken and Givens, which is pretty awful. Aiken shouldn't be starting and you're telling me now hes the #1 option in the passing game? Not many QBs can do much with that.

yup.

does not help the o-line was/is banged up to.

in trestmans case yeah sometimes i do wonder why the run or pass but mostly i like the plays he is calling but its just the execution that lacks.

receiver either dont get open or the o-line does not provide enough time.

I wouldn't agree Flacco regressed. When a QB does not trust his weapons it looks as if he is making bad throws and decisions. Remember the Brady regression in 2013?? Bad throws, bad decisions. They all said Tom was not the same player. Then 2014 Gronk is playing, he has chemistry with Edelman, Lafell is signed and even amendola returns down the stretch and he wins a Superbowl. Aiken and Givens are only in the NFL by default. When Ravens get some real receivers and were to cut Them. They wouldn't attract much attention from other teams. And if they did ,they would never be starters. Aiken is producing a little because he has chemistry with Joe Flacco and he is forcing throws to him although he gets not much separation. Givens was a castaway on a team looking for receivers to step up. Which means coaches had zero confidence his rookie season was anything more than a fluke. No reason to think Joe Flacco will not return strong next year. Especially if ravens find a pair of legit receivere. But it does cause ravens to take backup qb more seriously!! Qb is not very deep this year's draft. Ravens could consider trading for a qb. I like mettenberger. Strong arm accurate and will stand in the rush and throw a strike. Actually 2014 draft was deepest qb draft I ever saw!! So many players went after round1 with legit starter tools including plus accuracy. Aaron Murray,Garappolo, mettenberger to name a couple I liked better than the guys that went round1 in 2011. It's a shame ravens waited so long to pluck a backup when they picked wenning. 2014 was loaded with qbs!! Similar to the 2000 draft. Where there was no qb anybody thought should be the clear cut #1 overall pick. But produced several pro bowl qbs including Brady. And actually outperformed the 1999 class that had like 6 round1 QBs. My opinion mettenberger will be a legit franchise QB if given opportunity.

I totally agree with you Mom Gene and I have the opinion that the so-called fans that constantly bash Joe should go and cheer for the black and gold just my opinion. Joe will be back Mom Gene and I truly think he will grow from this and play even better just because going threw certain situations helps a person grow and can change their outlook on things plus Joe has a great attitude.

I think Flacco's recent play after a strong 2014 is a multifaceted issue. I am certain it includes the following factors: QB coach Marty, patchwork weapons, and a penchant our QB has of targeting the players he trusts before targeting those he doesn't, even if they're open.

Marty hasn't proven to me he's a good QB coach. I want him gone. His history doesn't even defend him. Look it up and you'll see it's just not that good.

Flacco never looked like he trusted his WR outside Smith after Aiken fumbled that ball against Denver. When Smith went down it got even worse. His OL, meanwhile, has been terribly snake bit and inconsistent, although it's gotten better.

Flacco also had a bad habit of targeting guys he trusts even if they're not completely open. He's a strange gambler in this regard and seems to prefer to trust the horses he knows than those he doesn't.

I don't think that is a bad thing at all. Let's keep in mind why guys like Torrey and Clayton were let go. You aren't going to get open every route, so you need to be able to go and get a ball when in coverage.

Also, I'dd add that while SSS got the lion's share of catches, Flacco still did a great job spreading the ball around every week, and giving everyone an opportunity to make their plays

I wouldn't agree Flacco regressed.

I think if anything, he has been as good as he always has been. A couple off games, but that's normal for any player.
