Cam Cameron Playing It Safe

55 posts in this topic

Anyone else having some deja vu during this one? It was playing out so much like the previous game against the Titans and the second game against Pittsburg. The fact that we lost both of those games made me a nervous wreck. I am soooo sick of the usualy 1st down...run for 1 yard gain, 2nd down...run for 1 yard, third down....max protect with only two receivers ending in a incomplete pass or short of a first down!

Joe is no longer a rookie and its about time they stop treating him like that and our offensive line is solid in pass protection. The fact that we won this game should not overshadow the fact that Cam Camerons conservative playcalling will kill us sooner or later.

Also, I know they threw it deep a lot, but theres a difference between truely oppening up the offense and just chucking it up once and a while.

I don't know what game you were watching but on many occasions Flacco didn't even finish his drop and he had titans in his face. It's impossible to "open up the offense" when your line has fits.

I thought the playcalling in the second and third quarter was absolutely terrible. And what the heck was McClain doing on the field with the ball on our one yard line, when he could barely walk a few plays earlier??

ummmm...... no. You just saw two incredible defenses hold down two explosive offenses. And the rookie came up with the big play this time. They stopped our running game and we came up with key turnovers which lead to a Titans loss.

I don't think there was anything conservative about the long pass to Mason which lead to a very important TD.

Quit complaining and take it for what it is. We're going for the AFC title!

The Titans had great penetration. We had no run game.

I was disappointed Ray Rice did not see more action. He could have really helped us out.

its time to let flacco do his thing
the kid can throw the ball which was shown a few times tonight
imagine if flacco was allowed to get into a rhythm throwing the ball......oh the possibilities

This is exactly what I was saying. When we would run on 3rd and long I was furious. Why not just punt. Then 3rd and 18 we pass deep to Mason and score. Air it out. Trust Joe. Key stat in the playoffs is 0 sacks on Flacco, 0 interception. Keep it up and we're in Tampa for sure.

He's been doing it the past few weeks and i'm kinda getting sick of it at some point.

He runs the ball up the middle on 1st and 2nd down and then on 3rd and long he wants Flacco to throw the ball downfield. What kind of gameplan is that? Let the guy complete some short, safe passes. Give him some screens, some short slants and this kind of stuff. Don't ask Flacco to throw the ball downfield all the time, it doesn't help us at all. This is not how you generate a passing game.

It has nothing to do with what Flacco can and cannot do. He's shown he can make all the throws, the OLine is holding the playcalling back. Cam is forced to go max protect sometimes cause teams can get pressure with 4 down linemen.

I definitely do want to see more short high percentage passes. I saw too much run for a short gain followed by a deep ball then another run for a short gain. We need more of the short and intermediate passes.

I love how everyone here seems to think it could have been so easy for us to score at any time. There was insane pressure on Flacco on just about every down and they blocked our running game the entire time.

We just played a team that was one of the best teams (if not the best team) in the NFL at their house and beat them just like they beat us.

This is your team, deal with it! They had our guys covered not to mention that there were a few key passes that were dropped by our receivers.

It was the physical game that everyone thought it would be and we get to keep going! Be happy about it for ****s sake!

Your close to dead wrong ravensfan. 0 TO 0 SACKS in 2 playoff games. When was the last time the Ravens coaching staff made a bad decision? Keep thinking...Any more foolish posts keep them to yourself.

I hope that final drive will give Cam the confidence he needs in Joe. I though Cam came out pretty plain in the open drives. With that being said, i wouldn't trade Cam for any OC we have ever had before

we are in the afc championship when not many people expected us to win 5 games this year, and you guys are complaining. Stop complaining and enjoy this season. Who cares how we win, i dont hear anyone complaining about how bad our offense was in 2000. We are ONE GAME AWAY FROM THE SUPER BOWL. Just shut up and quit crying about our offense

OMG, you have NO idea how loud I was yelling at the T.V today.. My brother told me to shut up because the coaches wouldnt hear me in Tennessee. but I do AGREE, like boomer said at half.. take the CUFFS off Flacco! and STOP STOP STOP running it every FREAKIN FIRST DOWN. He is playing WAY to conservative for me.. He goes against these mediocore teams with so many wrinkles and tricks in his offense. But when we play these BIG teams he does NOTHING but play it safe.. even with the other team running up and down the entire feild!!!! This is the FIRST close game that actually went our way..

WHY AFTER THE JIMMY INT didnt we try to get a few plays in before the half?! that made abso. NO sense whatsoever to me. Now I may not be a corrdinator BUT I dont see the harm in trying to go deep with the ball once or twice.. whats the worst that could happen? An INT on Flaccos part?.. Who cares? they get it back at the beginning of the 3rd anyway?..

We got lucky with this game if you ask me.. and that scares me for next week.

I have to disagree with this comment based on the fact late in the third qrt he called a run on 2nd down and 9 on the 3 yrd line and then went with the pass on 3rd and 8 with the same personell on the field. Definately needs to make some big changes when we face Pittsburgh next week.

Yeah okay. If the Ravens had lost this game I'm sure you'd be agreeing with me. And judging from your attitude I would have thought they did lose. There is no reason to call me foolish when there is a legitimate issue. After how we lost the second Steeler game I would have thought they would put a little more trust in Flacco by now. Guess what they finally did trust Flacco at the end of the game and he delivered.

Sure we haven't allowed any sacks but thats not saying much when you run draw plays on most third down plays longer than 5 yards and when you do thrown you leave 9 guys in to block.

Bottom line is we both want the same thing, but looking ahead to the Steeler game we have to score some points. With the way their offense played and how banged up or defense is, playing it safe is not going to cut it. And I for one would rather go down swinging against the league's #1 defense then leave it to our injury riddled defense to pull out another one.

I'll have to agree. Seems like the farther we get, the more he is restricted. Is there something that we are not seeing that they do in training camp? I mean we paid $30 Million for this kid didn't we? If our guys can't get open that is one thing but the Offense is beeing figured out and all the runs up the middle are getting us no where. Harb's talks about "hammering and hammering until they crack" which is a great metaphore, but what if thier putting points on the baord while we are still "hammering" away?

I don't mind it in the forst half of a game. You have got to stick to the running game and pound the D-line.

However, in the second half slants, screens and dump offs should be more utilized.

WHat is with Ray Rice anyway?

I don't understand why some people are disagreeing with the original post, because it's all true. Airing it out on every third and long is not 'opening up' anything. The Titans were playing great defense, but when you're doing the same thing EVERY series, it's kind of easy to play great defense. My God, I was sitting there watching on T.V., and even I could predict the play. 'Oh look, I bet we're going to run Le'Ron up the gut. Again. For little to no gain,'. AND WE DID! If we are going to have a chance to win this game, Cam is just going to have to man up and give Joe a little leeway to make some damn throws. Anything to give the guy and the offense some rhythm. And to those of you who have been using tired clich
