Per ESPN, John Harbaugh is giving out 'effort stickers' to reward Ravens

174 posts in this topic

ive been a harbaugh supporter throughout this mess, but WOW... this is unacceptable. he needs to scrap this idea immediately, and if he keeps it up with these stupid little nonsense ideas and his false and empty rah-rah talk, then the team is going to get to a point where they just roll their eyes and go through the motions hoping he shuts up.

he WILL lose the team with this kinda stupidity, and steve will not have it. this is embarrassing man.

He is in desperation, trying to rally his team with all kind of possibilities.....however, this one is beyond bad and embarrassment...

I'm supportive of John, but it seems to me as the season goes on without our legendary backbones, he's going to show less effective to bring the team together.  We are seriously losing our winning mojo.....

I agree 100%.  So, we don't want the hype up or "rah-rah" speeches of a Ray Lewis to inspire players around here anymore BUT we're reduced to handing out gold stickers...like these men are kids?  WOW!  SMH!!

You left this part out though Gene....

"It kind of feels like we're back in elementary school a little bit," defensive end Chris Canty said.

Harbaugh's latest motivational tool didn't come with much of speech.

"I think this is something that he just sprung on us," Canty said. "It's definitely different. I guess if you stay in this league long enough, you'll see just about everything."

and you forgot the rest of the sentence that says....    “Certainly, it’s not one of those things to be overlooked, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Effort to the football is very important.”  and "whatever it takes".

If this is so embarrassing to us, can you people imagine how our players feel? What are they going to hear from other teams on the field?

I don't believe this. Has Harbaugh lost it completely?

You also have to wonder how this story even broke in the first place. These are all player quotes so it sounds like the players are talking about it. Maybe it's as innocuous as a guy walked past a locker and wondered what was the deal with the stickers, asked, and got the answer. Or maybe someone tipped them off because they think it's stupid. I saw this earlier... Hate this for young children, hate it even more for millionaires.

Although, he could be doing it to embarrass them.

He's embarrassing himself.

We need playmakers. No one can look at Ravens right now and say "he is the best in the league...wow that play is inhuman...mvp...probowls..."

Instead we got "who is he? I knew it, they ain't Jack squat without ___guy"

This is what I miss about being in the newsroom and why I'd love to have been sitting in on the meeting where Hensley pitched the story. You can get a better insight into the whole thing as well as seeing who's said what off the record and all that.

I don't like it at all

Me either!

This is beyond silly. Humiliating

Can't stand it!

I'm already there!  I watched Ravens Talk a few moments back and noticed that when Harbaugh was talking to the DB's, Hill (who had his back to Harbaughs) just made a funny look with his eyes while drinking Gatorade and just kept talking to the DB's sitting on the bench dismissing what Harbaugh was saying.  I rewinded it a couple of times to make sure of what I thought I saw and I did!

This lameness and goofiness is not the way!  I've said it before that Harbaugh "inherited" a solid football team with "player-coaches" that were in place prior to his arrival.  They made his job easy and they made him look good!  They're all gone now and this is the result.  He wanted and like a quieter lockeroom so he could introduce his newest creation...the sticky!  Smh!

No I didn't!  You already had it in the post I quoted.  Sure, effort is needed in getting to the ball but keeping it in context; Canty did mention this was like being in elementary school though...didn't he?  There is no way that you can tell me (a grown butt man myself) that these other grown butt men (with the world watching them) are okay with getting little stickies.  No way!

I had multiple friends of mine who are fans of other teams tell me this after Ray retired, Ed left and after Boldin, Torrey and Ngata were traded.

I doubt this sticker thing is even an issue. Most players probably ignore it. The team seems to be actually well motivated for how poorly the season is going. Really weird how quickly the fans turn on Harbs. We did really well last season and now we get "is Harbaugh on the hotseat?" topics?

Lol, "Player Coaches". If only we had someone do a dance before every game, we'd be 9-0 for sure. ;)

While I'll admit this isn't something I would really do... Let's see if the team keeps fighting. If it works... It works

Belicheat and Tomlin must be laughing. Lord. What has this team become?

I never play this card but Ray would NEVER allow this.

I agree that the team is pretty motivated...we're just a bad team.

I would lay my money down on this part.  This is Harbaugh going high school on them.  Pro athletes are so much different than any other athletes because they finally have bullets in the chamber on their side.  They're paid, in the millions, and if a guy is a stud its a ton of money.  Players will eventually look at the older vets who are the studs of the team to see the reaction. Pro athletes despise being treated like babies/college kids, if anything they want more freedom to be on their own and do their own thing so long as they can perform.  Why guys don't like showing up to OTAs, off season workouts, curfews, why they go home on by weeks etc.  This is not treating them like grown men.

Neither would Reed, Pollard, heck, even Cary Williams wouldn't like it.

At SSS's old age I doubt he'd be ok with being treated like a child either.

Thanks for posting the link, Mom Gene.

If this just started after the Jags game, how has Flacco gotten so many? Is he trading his fruit rollups or something?

Or maybe Joe sneaks over to other guys lockers and swipes everyone else's stickers when they aren't looking. Edited by salamander

i thought this was a joke when i first read about it lmao

Me too. I thought someone was starting an unsubstantiated stupid rumor to mock the Ravens. Joke's on us to find out it is actually true. I am humiliated for our players....or maybe I am just secretly jealous because I didn't get a sticker too.

Tomlin probably is the main one laughing at how "corny" and "lame" Harbaugh really is with this kiddie stuff to motivate grown men. Smh!

Well we do have a lot of young players and they do similar in college and wear them in their helmets as a badge of honor.

The focus really is on the young guys and the back end of the roster now anyways.

It seems childish but if there is playing time attached to the stickers, I.e. More stickers more playing time - whether they like it or not guys might be motivated to earn them.

and if more guys are playing harder with more effort thats not a bad thing. And if they're not already embarrassed by their record this will surely do it. And they deserve it!

They're already laughing at our record.

And clearly that hasn't motivated change... With losing to the browns at home, to Oakland, to Jacksonville...

If they want the freedom then they gotta show they can perform without this kind of stupid stuff. Go out and win and I'm sure the stickers wind up back in the drawer.

I have to think, is this really necessary? I saw that ESPN Pic of Joe Flacco locker with a load of effort stickers and I kinda laughed a bit. In all honesty, you can really create some rift in the locker room. What if you have some guys out there who believe they are putting in the work and effort and well....don't get the stickers they feel they are entitled to. It's just weird, if the players are okay with it then fine.

I really don't take this badly like other fans seem to . It's kind of funny a little bit but for the most part I just see this as Harbaugh trying to do the best way he can to keep the team motivated but also keep things fun.

I don't really know where I stand on this. On one hand it could motivate guys who wonder why they are not getting the stickers and others are. But on the other hand I thought being paid that much even the league minimum should be motivation enough. I thought the Ross and Jackson moves earlier in the week should be motivation enough for the rest of the team to do their job. I can kind of see both sides but I am not in the locker room to know the whole story. Everything we get is hear-say and even the sports media are experts at spinning that. I know one thing SSS area should be over-loaded with these stickers injured or not he did more for this team this year than any other 2 players combined with his play and motivation.
