What's the plan with the TE's?

48 posts in this topic

Keep Maxx and Gillmore and Boyle as depth. After acquiring a deep threat use both TEs to the massive advantage as the middle of the field is open constantly.

We picked up a TE bc like last game we plan to run quite a bit of 3 TE sets. You need another TE for depth and rotation when you plan to play all 3 quite a bit.

And I have a feeling it's a package they plan to use even more going into next year. Get your best players on the field. And it helps offset the WR need.

Also helps the run game. Gillmore, Maxx and Boyle will all definitely be in the team next year. Pitta, this guy we just signed or someone else will be the 4th. We keep 4 TEs next year instead of 6 or 7 WR like we did this year.

who are they going trade and what do you think they will cost?

i see no reason to trade them nor do i see them hold a lot of value at this point...

Agreed. I'm not ruling out trading one of them down the road though. I just don't think they have done enough to command what would be deemed worth trading. Right now we would most definitely be losing if we traded one of them.

nope why trade , if we draft a true #1 WR , then I would see a trade, outside of that give them the next year or 2 and watch what happens, Rocket Crockett game back with a vengeance, boyle looks good now and maxx will get a lot better, our TE  will be tops in the league,,

The team has struggled to keep a good TE on the field since Heap so they better just hold on to all three they have until their rookie deals end at least.  And Gillmore needs to be the focus.  They all seem to have similar speed and skill, but Crockett gets the most yards after catch to me.  Seems like it can take up to 3 guys to take him down at times.

At this point gotta keep all 3, at least until their first vet contract. I think that's a no brainer. Trestman will find ways to get all involved.

I've always loved what the TE brings to an offense and am pleased and excited about the depth we have!

Why in the world would you trade 3 extremely young TE's that are all developing and have shown the ability to block and catch (some block better , some catch better) .

They are extremely cheap as well.

Thought it was interesting adding Chase Ford. It's not unheard of to carry 4 TEs, but we must have held him in high regard since I doubt he's even getting activated as long as these 3 stay healthy. PFF has all 3 rated in the top 12 TEs.

Was expecting more from Maxx since he was the first TE taken in the draft.  Glad to see Crockett Gilmore doing so well but Boyle seems to be outplaying Maxx at this point.

The plan is, we're assuming Pitta is gone - which I believe is the safe assumption. The other 3 are keepers.

Boyle appears to be a better #3 than our usual #3 TE (like Bajema, Supernaw, etc) ... but why try trade him and downgrade that #3 slot, when it is highly unlikely you're going to get anything substantial in return?

TE appears to be one of the few solid positions on this team ... therefore the plan would be to not fix what isn't broke.

I think many had too high of expectations for Maxx coming into the season. He's a very young rookie and playing a position that is notoriously difficult for players entering the league. I think it is more that Boyle is doing better than I expected

While he would indeed be outplaying Maxx this year, I do think Maxx still has better upside and will be over Boyle in the depth chart going forward.

Yup, was just about to mention that. They seem to be focusing on more than just the receiving stats of TEs but it is still impressive.

3TE sets

Pros:

  • Dangerous in the Redzone
  • Extra Blocking for run plays
  • Can be deceptive
  • Short passing game would be dope
  • Allow Joe to throw to guys he has chemistry with
  • HANDS

Cons:

  • Lack of Speed
  • Unfortunately , TEs are not exempt from our injury curse.
  • Probably wont be any 60yrd bombs
  • Might get flagged for Ineligible reciever
  • Trestman is still coordinator :) just kiddin

The "pros" of running a 3 TE set far outweigh the "cons" to me.

Especially the deceptive part of it because you don't know if it is a run or a pass.  And, the short and intermediate passing game can be a killer to defenses because the ball can come out more quickly and that causes defenses to have a difficult time getting off the field.  As far as the bombs?  Nothing that a little playaction can't fix.  Although we're talking about "real life" football and not a video game; I run a lot of 3 TE sets on Madden 16 with the Ravens to move the chains and it's killin' cats! :229031_rofl:B)

I think the plan is to continue developing our TEs and continue with the same usage and rotations we have been utilizing.

Hopefully Maxx Williams lives in the weight room this year and really makes a big push going into next season, eventually overtaking Crockett Gilmore as our #1 TE, but the fact that we have 3 versatile weapons at TE bodes extremely well for our offensive outlook down the road.

He has loads of natural talent. He has natural hands, snatches without gearing down, good athleticism for an out of shape player and a great feel for getting open and adjusting to throws. But he leaves so much speed, explosion and production on the table!! By being waaaay out of shape. He needs to lose 20 lbs of fat that slows him down and replace it with 20 lbs of muscle. He also needs to work tirelessly on his routes and sharpness. If he does all that he could be the receiving seam threat that strikes fear in defenses. He could be a 4.60 40 player or better, 36 inch vertical and 10 foot or more broad jump player that actually translates to play speed and explosion!! If he continues the lazy eating, training and practice habits he showed up at camp with and does so again looking like he does in the avatar, then he will not distinguish himself from Gilmore or Boyle who are blocking TEs. And leave the ravens wanting more at the TE position. He can be as explosive and great as any other TE in the league!! Or he could be as mediocre as he prefers to be. If he works hard this offseason and shows up to training camp next year lean and muscular, then he and the ravens offense will be putting the league on notice!!

And tell me. What qualifies you to say "he's slow" when he beat freaking Chris Givens, our fastest player, up the field on his touchdown and made a clean break to get open.

He needs to lean the position. Sure..... But he's 21 damnit. Just turned it. As of August, he can legally buy alcohol. The man is young, he will learn. And btw. Maxx isn't really out of shape. In fact, he's probably in better shape than you are.

And how do you know he has poor eating habits? What do you do? Stalk him?

Besides. It's not his game. For the umpteenth time. He's a Jason Witten style player. Which I'm pretty sure everyone can agree is a good thing. He's craftier and quicker than fast. Which is fine. You can be a very good TE and not be explosive

Bennett

Witten

Gates as of right now is still better than most of the TEs in the NFL

Heath Miller

Owen Daniels last year

Not explosive players. But very much respected.

He's not out of shape.... He may not have a perfect "bod", but by your logic, Haloti Ngata was out of shape....... Yeah. That's just not true.

Ngata plays a position where some bodyfat is beneficial. Comparing a DT to a TE?? Givens obviously was not running full tilt. That would be ridiculous!! Are you really impressed with that run and catch?? He was practically uncovered!! And better shape than me??!! Seriously?? Look at the avatar there!! Shameful!! He is running hard, muscles flexed and still looks like a 45 yr old couch potato!! 21 huh?? Never seen a 21 yr old with baby fat!! At 21 you are naturally leaner than you will ever be!! Without training and dieting that is. I am not insulting him. I said if he got in top shape he would be a beast. BTW he said himself he needs to eat better, get in better shape and needs to get stronger.

the TE's are one of the very few assets on this team. trading them away would be the most foolish decision in franchise history

Your body doesn't fully develop until you are 25 meaning you haven't completely shed all of your baby fat nor have your muscles fully developed. I don't know where you got your degree, but you should probably return it and get your money back.
