If Perriman doesn't pan out, the F.O. will never take a WR in the 1st round again.

I really hope we don't do that. I've heard too many people say this.

It would be really stupid if the FO did this. Just because you got burned before doesn't mean you'll get burned next time. Even if Perriman is a bust I would never like the Ravens avoiding a position because of bad picks. If that was the case, I'd call for Ozzie, Eric, or who-ever's resignation.

So we should have traded up for who? Nelson Aghalor whose done nothing and been injured?

Davante Parker whose done nothing for a team in need of weapons?

Shoot even all the way up to Kevin White who also missed his entire rookie year?

And we would've had to mortgage the future to get up for Cooper. To the point where we wouldn't have a 1st rd pick in this coming draft. And that would be disastrous considering where we get a chance to pick.

I cannot wait until Perriman plays next year and dominates. Btw his dad was a speed receiver early in his career and was successful at it. He didn't become a crafty route runner until he aged and it was necessary for him to remain successful.

Julio Jones, Demeryius Thomas, Hopkins, Alshon, etc, etc were all not good route runners either. Perriman actually reminds me a lot of Thomas and I won't be surprised when he has similar success. Route running can be learned, but isn't as important when you're faster, stronger, can out body, and out leap almost every single DB in the league to the ball.

I think we got a steal with Perriman bc he didn't play big college ball. He may not play at 4.2 speed but who does? Torrey had 4.4 speed and burned everyone deep. Perriman plays faster, bigger, stronger and has better hands and route running than Torrey.

Bortles even said Perriman made his life so easy. He could just throw the ball up and he'd go get it for him time and time again. And id say he can recognize a quality WR when he sees one playing with Robinson and Hurns.

Joe is more talented a thrower and will make Perriman even better. And Perriman has athleticism and talent that Joe has never seen before. He will help make Joe the best QB he's ever been.

I generally agree with your assessment to a point and can't wait to see Breshad in action. As you said, his dad was a pretty good receiver. The speed thing is overrated though. I think scouts are sometimes fooled into thinking its the #1 criterion for a WR. Truly gifted receivers like Jerry Rice and Randy Moss have great leaping ability, great & strong hands, great route-running ability as well as speed. If speed was so important, Bob Hayes and Skeets Nehemiah would have had longer & more successful NFL careers than hey had and Usain Bolt would probably be in the NFL. It also won't mean a thing unless we have another great WR to line up on the opposite side of the field. It appears we're set at the TE position now and that's good but as good as Breshad may be he won't be a dominant WR if we don't bring in someone else to complement him (that's assuming SSS retires as he has announced).

Re Amari Cooper, it looks like he may have been worth mortgaging the future. He has 53 receptions and a lot of yardage halfway through the season. It looks like he has a lock on the ROY or at least is in the running for it.

Bisciotti needs to build a bronze statue to Ozzie and place it right outside the stadium.

Ozzie is 60 years old and candidly should have retired after the 2nd Championship. To malinger on for longer doesn't allow us to move forward as a franchise. Its time. It's just time is all.

You'll be singing a different tune after this draft when he lands another All Pro franchise corner stone and potential HOF caliber player with the 1st pick.

Ozzie is not the problem. The league is designed to stack the deck against you when you have success. The fact that he's successfully fought off a losing season for so long is remarkable.

You guys act like this is the 1st time in franchise history we've fielded a bad team. And conveniently ignore the injuries to our most valuable defensive player and now our best offensive weapon - our 2 biggest leaders.

Look at the Seahawks who everyone's crowned as the new dynasty and best drafters. Yea the won a SB and made back-to-back ones. But after their very first offseason of having to let their guys walk and pay big $ to the keepers, they're struggling. That's what you get in the NFL, it's almost impossible to sustain success beyond short 2-3 year windows.

Colts are another example. Looked like they were building to a championship. Smacked back down to reality.

And the Pats will come back to reality once they lose the best QB of all time. That team without Brady would be lucky to get to 8-8.

Even after drafting to future HOFers in '96 it wasn't until year 5 they put it together and won. And after that SB year, over the next 8 years we only made back to back playoff appearances ONCE.

The stretch from 2008-present has been the BEST stretch in franchise history. And that's with late round draft choices, consistently having to watch star players walk in FA, and only being able to sign bargain bin FA's. And through all that he's continued to build the most successful franchise outside the Patriots over that span. And the Pats have only done it bc they have the best QB in history.

It's all been piling up, and the league was going to do what it was designed to do eventually. We alternated losing season/playoff appearance from 2000-2008... Back when Ozzie "still had it."

And since Ozzie has "slipped" in his drafting and FA acquisitions we've made the playoffs 6 out of 8 and won a SB, two other AFCCG, and won a playoff game each time we've made it. We didn't make it to the AFCCG even once outside of 2000 between '96 and '07. First 9 years, 4 playoff wins. 6 years since? 9.

I'll take the "slipping" Ozzie all day. And you all will see he's still got it this draft when he brings in the next Ogden, Jamal Lewis, McAlister, Reed, Suggs, Ngata, Flacco type player.

Grass is always greener. I'm still waiting for anyone to compare one single team who has supposedly drafted better than Ozzie over the past 4-5 years even.

Show me the GMs, years, draft position and the picks side by side to compare. Find even one with a better 5 year body of work.

IR wasn't more necessary today than it was yesterday or a week ago. With a chance to make the WC it was worth waiting for likely your most dangerous offensive threat to come back.

Now that there's nothing to play for there's no sense in bringing him back and taking a chance that he re injures it. He won't get any development this year that he can't get over the summer and next preseason.

Plus the team wanted to roster spot to bring in a young player they're interested in to see if he can maybe be a piece for next year.

All decisions will now be made with next year in mind. Players will be dropped and added. Arthur Browns and Butlers and Za'Darius Smith and Brent Urban type players will get many more reps to figure out what they really are in NFL games before decisions have to be made.

Perriman's a lock for the team next year. Why put him on the active roster when there are guys you're unsure about and need to evaluate?

but a raw player at a skill position being away from football for that long can create quite an uphill climb, if he was able to get on the field for a few weeks it would have been huge, and it also would give the team confidence in the wr corps moving forward and allow them to act accordingly if he performed well. and also, there is no substitute for live game action, no amount of practice reps or preseason reps can replicate the value of live game action, and the fact that after all this time, it was deemed that he is unable to come back without the risk of re-injuring, well yes that makes it more worrisome than before when we were led to believe that he was coming along.

I hope Perriman dominates as well since I'm a UCF fan (it's been a struggle this year, I know). I HOPE he stays healthy. Yeah I know a lot of ppl liked Diggs, but hindsight is 20/20. Lots of "what ifs." I could easily say, "Well what if Perriman never injures himself before the regular season and plays well?"

Who hasn't drafted better than Ozzie last 5 years?? His signings have been worse. There are more excuses for Ozzie than successes recently. He had a lot of competent assistants hired by belichick. Ozzie learned from belichick by his own acknowledgement. The game has changed and Ozzie does not have that supporting cast to learn from. If not for Biscotti Ozzie would of been content to sit at 26 and draft whichever ragedy qb was left in the hat!! If not for Biscotti ozzie would of been content drafting Chad henne or Brian brohm. It was Biscotti that said he refuses to throw whichever qb lands in their lap out there and run without a franchise QB.

Right on the money. What are the chances another WR would go through the same exact predicament? We just didn't get lucky with this injury and even if he turns out to be a bust that shouldn't encourage us to never pick WR again. I hate that idea and I would be really disappointed if we actually went that route and I would call for a resignation as well.

Luckily, our FO is made of professionals.

It's not just here. I've heard some people from the media even say this. It's a ridiculous idea honestly. How many times have we passed on WR only to look back and say "Yeah, I really wish we didn't pass on him."

Right, those of us who saw Tony Banks and Boller know that it has been worse, and we always rebound. We will be fine, although I don't think I've seen our defense be this bad, other than 96 maybe. Yeah, it sucks, but we will have a completely different team next year, and that's before the draft. We just have SO many players on IR right now.

I've been here since 05(when I really got into football. Like started memorizing rosters and stuff). I'm not worried. I think calling Perriman a bust is asinine. Let him play before he gets a label. We appear to have a good WR coach. Let's see what he can do with Breshad before we label to man

Probably far less often than fans have clamored for us to draft a certain player and been upset when Ozzie picks someone else... And the fans choice has gone on to be a bust while Ozzies choice went on to become a great player for us.

Besides, WR don't win championships. Teams built in the trenches with a solid defense and franchise QB do.

Granted you need at least capable WRs... But I don't see rings on the fingers of Dez, Calvin, Thomas, Antonio Brown, Julio, Hilton, Hopkins, Steve Smith, Keenan Allen, Vincent Jackson, Desean Jackson, Maclin, Mike Evans, Watkins, Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Alshon, AJ Green, Fitzgerald, Beckham, Jordy Nelson (don't think he was on the packers when they won, if he was he wasn't a star yet), Randall Cobb, etc....

Most haven't even been close and the young ones don't appear to be getting close any time soon.

Great WRs end up costing too much to keep and don't have enough of an impact individually to justify their cap hit after their rookie deal. So unless you draft a stud into a championship ready squad it just doesn't seem to be a recipe for success.

It doesn't seem logical, but when you go down the list of the best WRs in the NFL you can probably get through the top 20 without finding a ring. Depends on how highly you rate Edelman.

We are adjusted without him.  Losing every week with a hangmans rope did not instill a sense of urgency for him to participate at all.  With the Rams coming, I expect their D to be the dominate force in M & T  :toilet:

Harbaugh said yesterday Perriman needs rest not surgery . No way then it's a class 2 PSL strain .

"To me , it's a hard one to understand" said Harbaugh. Hmmm .

" I had a chance to talk to him yesterday probably for the FIRST TIME IN DEPTH BECAUSE HE WAS HARD TO TALK TO BEFORE" . This apparently because he was down .

This guy sounds like a freakin head case to me .

Just read between the lines of what Harbaugh said .

Ozzie's problem is not drafting...it's deciding when to back up the Brink's truck which has landed his seat a bit warm now.  The Ravens arguably have negotiated the worst contracts in football for five straight years...almost guaranteed that when we offer the big money, the player goes soft (Ray Rice, Jimmy Smith, Webb), gets injured (Suggs, Pitta), or outstays his welcome (Ngata).  We are batting almost 1.000 at "bad money deals" for the past five years, hamstringing anyone's ability to sign quality players for this season and next.

That's on Ozzie and deCosta, and if anyone is looking for any change from Bisciotti this off-season, I'd keep your eyes on the front office.  They had a great run in the early 00's; but the record for five straight years is the worst in the NFL.

I really hope he is not being all the way truthful with that, hard to believe its the first time they would have talked, especially with him being there at the meetings and everything.  If so, thats terrible personel management

We've been good vs the run. Now we have to stop Gurley.  Foles is horrific, especially if pressured. Don't get me wrong, I think we'll get beat but the Rams are not dynamic.

Oh...you mean the "faithful" that went through the lean times when the team was being built know about losing teams and poor players, but fans since whenever aren't "seasoned" regarding tough times?

Let me ask you this, how many lean years have the Patriots had since they followed up our championship with theirs?

The facts are painting a picture and that picture is not flattering, something like the portrait of Dorian Grey. The last 3 years there have been monumental missteps, not including Perriman as one of them. One can argue for stability, which is pressing the envelope with someone 60 years old, but be honest about the mess.

Let the man groomed to take over, take over and fly with his own Raven's wings.  If he can't turn it around, we shop for a Raven for the new NFL.  Times change

So let me get this straight you want the Ravens team doctor fired because Perriman should have been put on IR long ago so we wouldn't have  to put other injured players on IR who are not much better than practice squad players?  I think those guys would have ended up on IR even if Perriman was on IR all season.  Like I said some people are grasping for straws.

I wholeheartedly agree that its time for the Wizard to hop into a hot air balloon and depart for Kansas but Ozzie's age is not the problem. The real problem is his successor is not in the organization and his Assistant GM, Eric DeCosta, isn't the answer IMHO. Neither is his son Vince. It rarely works well when your dad is one of your superiors in an organization. To be more specific, if Vince isn't doing a good job for the Ravens, do you think Ozzie would recommend he be fired? Think again, right? When you get to be 60, your opinion of older guys may change. The only difference between young men and old men is this: "Young men think old men are foolish; old men know young men are foolish."

The string of comments from some  fans about them not freaking out or panicking because they've been "faithful" fans since 1996 is an elitist point of view, but not elite like our quarterback. There are some Ravens fans that think you have to have been a fan since the beginning to be a real, faithful fanatic. I've been a fan since we started but I don't think I'm special because of it. I wear my purple duds proudly whether the weather is fair or not. I'm not ready to "freak out" or panic as they say but I am really concerned about what I've seen and not heard coming from the FO.

Foles isn't playing, he got benched. Case Keenum is playing, the same Keenum that beat the Ravens last year when he was playing for the Texans. Granted, he wasn't particularly great in that game.
