[News] Expect Lardarius Webb To Play More Safety

36 posts in this topic

Let's give Asa some more playing time in the DB. He'll surprise a lot of people and seems to be serious this time around.

I saw AB out there, and it's about time, his game is speed, and he did well in chasing down plays, covering, and rushing.....Orr is getting better and better every time i see him get a chance, looked very comfortable, and confident out there....Like i said, it's not a lost season at all if the youngsters get the playing time, and progress and not regress....

I remember when myself and others were asking for Webb to play FS for about two years and they did it till now? I will turn in a coaching application for defensive coach position soon at the castle.

Well I guess harbs got annoyed on how far off Webb plays of the WR that he decided meh might as well let him play far back as possible and play FS lol little humor

Should've happened years ago. Webb hasn't had the physical tools to be a consistent starting CB in the league iin a while. He has the experience to move into the position abd to back up the younger more physical corners. He won;t be an Ed Reed, but has got to be better than what we now have.

I think this could be a really good move...... Webb is experienced enough to switch to safety, and he played many years watching, and learning from Ed. I also believe he is much more experienced in reading opposing offenses. I will have to see a few more games with him playing safety to see how it works out, but I am all for it. If this last game is any indication, Webb should do well, it surely can't hurt........

I could see this working, Hill of course is used in run support, Webb would be responsible for playing center field. Plus they can use Brooks as a 3rd safety like they've done in the past.

We could have plenty of turnovers if our DBs could catch the freakin ball. I guess that's why they are not WRs.

Hey North Dakota Raven...glad to have given you some laughter today esp with all the other negativism in today's news. However, I stand by that opinion and he'll prove me right if given the opportunity.

What I like about Webb is that he is intelligent. Great player, especially, when he's 100% physically. The only thing about him that I worry about is the occasional injury - last year it took him forever to get back on form and be a contribution on the field. The secondary against Jaguars looked better on Sunday be a wide margin, so if Webby at safety was the reason, by all means, keep doing what works! It's fun to watch him pounce at people. He tackles differently than most other players I see.

hes very intelligent and instinctive, but i have to question if he has that first step and the hips needed to break on the ball at long distances.. if his body holds up i have no doubts hell be an upgrade over lewis, as he is dumb unlike webb, and still slow as molasses. ive been opposed to the move for years now, but i think this is the perfect time to do it, extend the mans career, let him find a niche where he can get back to producing positive results instead of forcing him to do things that his body is incapable of. the man can read quarterbacks and wr's like a book, and has great ball skills, if he can maintain enough burst to capitalize on his great football IQ then we will fill a major void on this team. the issue that this brings up though, is we have absolutely nobody to fill in at CB2. tray walker? shareece wright? *shudders*

Webb no way has the ability like that Hawaaiian guy who just retired from Pittsburg. Webb again is too far away from his man who he is suppose to defend. OH, forgot , make one good play and you are now a "ball hawk" ? Man o man. What idiots. Jimmi Smith is rediculous in the same manner, but oh, he made on tackle and he is a hero. No one in the backfield know how to tackle or maybe throwing your body at the runner andd missing is the new tackle! Only the Ravens allow that!

I always thought that he would make a good safety, especially after the two knee injuries. He lost his quicks an speed but he always had good ball skills an awareness.

Sounds like Harbaugh is going to give the young players some time. Good luck. This Ravens team doesnt have that much real talent, just a lot of potential. They should depend more on proven talent rather than potential. Stock piling picks is fine but getting good players in the early (1-3) is the heart of your team.

This secondary would benefit significantly because webby at least is an intelligent player and can often guess where the ball is going. With him and Hill at safety, we just need to draft a stud corner like that kid from Flordia State that is drawing comparisons to Patrick Peterson to pair with jimmy, who I feel is not 100% with his foot. I'm still upset we didn't get peters or Darby in the draft, they're having great years.

Webb played safety at Nicholls St. as well and was classified as a "tweener" (CB/S) when being scouted for the draft.  I believe that he will do well on the back end the rest of the way cause he played with and learned from the great...Ed Reed!

I agree!  Sure, he's no Ed Reed...and will never be however, he can provide some stability on the back end.  Plus, with Ed Reed getting inducted to the Ring of Honor on Sunday; it would be awesome if Webb could get a pick and take it to the house!
