Lardarius Webb to See More Time at Safety

42 posts in this topic

I like the idea of Webb at safety. I think its more of a natural position for him, and if it works out that we have an in-house option to replace Lewis. The main focus right now is just going to be finding the replacement for Webb's corner spot which at the moment seems to be between Wright, Brooks (If the ever let him play), and maybe Lewis if they want to keep him involved.

Move your best cornerback to the FS position and leave his Cornerback spot virtually vacant. Cause that makes sense. In sure Sharice Wright, Kendrick Lewis and Brooks will be GREAT outside Cornerbacks...

They showed a commitment early on to keeping Webb in the slot as much as they can, evident by Arrington playing the outside and Wright coming in. Webb will still play the outside, but it seems he's either going to be in the slot or at safety now. It doesn't sound like this is a permanent switch, at least not yet.

We only have 2 players wort starting at cornerback on the team though.

Players in our secondary are either good or horrible, no in between. And we only have 3 good DB's.

Again, I don't see this as a full time position switch right now. He'll get reps at safety, but he's still a cornerback.

Im a fan of the move. What do we have to lose? Webb is a Ball Hawk and a smart player, I'd love to see what he could do at FS for the rest of the year. We know he can line up the secondary and be a true leader back there, something that we've been sorely missing since the departure of Ed.

Just for comparison Webb is 5'10 180, Earl Thomas is 5'10 200 ... If Webb looks good back there maybe he can commit to Safety and put on some weight in the offseason, push closer to 190-195. Who knows, maybe some added weight could help his durability.

I still see Webb continuing on the outside when the Ravens play 4 DBs, but I agree he'll be safety or SCB in the nickel.

Part of the value of having Webb at safety is that it adds a layer of unpredictability to the defense when he might be at either slot or safety in the nickel.  If Pees decides every nickel will have Webb at safety, then that 1-size-fits-all pass defense will still be easy to game plan against.

Yeah, should have prefaced that as in the nickel.  When we only have 2 CBs on the field though, Webb is the one along with Jimmy.

Did anyone see him at safety today? I still saw a lot of Lewis, but regardless of who was back there, they did a solid job. Keenum was trash so I don't want to give them too much credit, but the safeties did good work preventing any long throws besides the BS interference calls
