[News] Ravens Tight Ends A Bright Spot In Loss

31 posts in this topic

I've been hoping that our intelligent coaching staff would have capitalized on these guys sooner. But I guess thinking that they were intelligent was my dumbness. Juice and these 3 have been the hidden jewel in our offense but have not been given their props.

Focus on developing the TEs even more than this last game through the rest of the season. Work out some kinks, let them gain valuable game experience, develop some killer plays in TE sets. With what's left of this "going nowhere" season, to see the TEs make great strides will pay off big next year. I think we have barely scratched the surface of what these young TEs can bring to the offense.

Really happy to see Williams get his first TD. The guy has been a little behind where I thought he'd be, but the promise is there. Just imagine what these guys will do if we get a threat or two outside the numbers to free the middle of the field.

So why don't we run more two TE sets and run the ball instead of asking Flacco to turn backup WR's into pro bowlers?

Please a lot more three TE sets simply because they are better athletes than the no name cast offs we have at WR now that Smith is done for the year. I would still like to see the running game get going but it seems game in and game out we can't keep the same center, guards or tackles on the field.

This team is so good at losing. The final play of the game is a perfect example. All we had to do was not commit a penalty on defense and tackle the ball carrier before he reached the endzone with 50 yards to go. Somehow we managed to blow that and give the Jags a shot at a field goal. We need defensive leaders to carry this team and a new Playcaller. Trestman is a joke. Why has he never lasted more than a few years with a team i his 30 year career. Because he doesn't know how to win. We are the 2014 Chicago Bears. Congrats!

You have to play match-ups. The Jaguars mostly play a Cover 3 on defense. That basically takes away the deep ball, takes away the middle of the field and takes away runs up the middle. What's left is short passes on the sidelines and runs to the outside. That is exactly what we saw all day. The Ravens couldn't hit a deep ball, couldn't run in up the middle and Forsett doesn't have the speed to run outside. But throws to the FB & TE on the sideline worked - that's exactly what the Ravens were calling. The Jaguars have a Top 10 run defense but have zero pass rush. Makes sense that you would throw the ball against a team that can't get pressure on the QB more than trying to run up the middle into a wall of defenders against a defense that's great at stopping the run.

Is there anyway the coaches can explain to all receivers that if its 3rd and 4 to go maybe 5 yards and make their cuts or stop and turn for the ball ?

Been drilled into them since high school (it was with me). There's a reason that WRs don't score high on the Wonderlic.

Let me know..when its over. Draft time yet?

Hopefully, we can get a couple of scouts that can distinguish what is and how to find a good quality receiver. How many scouts are on the Ravens payroll anyway?

Juice, who is officially a FB, but played FB/TE hybrid at school also deserves a mention. He can carry the ball, has made some impact and the hits he lays on defenders! Maxx also had a good hit where he couldn't avoid a tackle.

The season is half over and our head coach/OC wake up to the fact that was obvious from the very beginning; have three big pass catchers on the field all at once. Instead of depending on wide outs, they could have been practicing this maneuver from game one.

Thats why every time we sent a TE up the seam he was open. We didn't attack them vertically whatsoever. The have athletic ILB's that were sneaking behind the backside of the zone blocking and still making plays. That is why Forsett was struggling to get much. The success of the outside runs were more of an element of supprise when the box was stacked in short yardage. The Jag's do an excellent job stopping the run. Look where they rank in the league. But we never tried to get physical with them, impose our will, and hit them with PA in the TE sets. That was working, so don't act like their "cover 3" was the reason why we ran 3 wide the whole game.

Seriously, this should have a major part of the game plan all year. I'm just worried down the road when all of their contracts come up on/about the same time; we may have to dismantle the beast. We have to enjoy it while we can (about the only thing lately we can enjoy during the games).

I could draw better plays in the redzone with these three TEs than what I've seen thus far! The TE does more than jus catch passes and block they can go down field creating mismatches and more!

Crockett is showing the ability we thought he had, and if he can stay healthy and continue to develop, he can become a weapon. Boyle is a pleasant surprise! The constant leaping over potential defenders however will shorten his shelf life. Love his toughness. Maxx Williams needs to show me more toughness. He also can't call out sick often or he will lose his reps, second rd. pick or not!

Why did it take the loss of SSS for the Ravens to think of this?

Come on man this "team" is not very bright. Just look at their first round selections.

Seeing growth from the TE's is great! Lets get all of our young guys on the field and get the growing pains out of the way... This year its all about the draft, development and getting our guys healthy.
