The Kung Fu Movie Thread

20 posts in this topic

I've been collecting Kung Fu movies for years and have well over 600 movies in my personal stash.  Any other enthusiasts like me in here?  What are your favorite Kung Fu movies and actors?

Of course my ultimate guy is Bruce Lee!

Lol!

That was probably the movie called "Invincible Armour" with John Liu and Hwang Jang Lee or the movie "Fist of the White Lotus" with Gordon Lu and Lo Lieh.

In most movies like that one you saw, they actually still have "them" they are just able to control them and suck them up into their abdomen.  lol!  Once you hit them in their vulnerable spot or as they say in these movies..the "vital nerve" then they drop and you can deal with the villian.  Lol!

Recently, I've been really re-watching the old 80s and 90s Jackie Chan movies. AMC was showing some for their "fight week" thing, so I went back watched a ton. Lee is the master, but Chan is also the man.

Side note: I also LOVE the long samurai scene in Kill Bill Vol 1 where she fights the Crazy 88. One of the best Kung fu movie scenes.

Second side note: I cannot wait for Into the Badlands to start this weekend. That show looks legit for Kung fu fans.

Lee will always be the greatest but Jackie Chan is awesome to.  Jackie is more of a comedy-based martial artist which I'm not into that much however, I have a few kung fu movies of his where he is straight up dealing with cats.  His movies "Snake in the Crane's Shadow,"  "Dragons Fists," "Drunken Master" and the critically acclaimed, "Legend of the Drunken Master" are amazing Kung Fu movies.

Chan nails action comedy better than anyone else with his Chineese work. His American work is great as well, but man....

Absolutely!

I used to watch the oldies from the Shaw Brothers, when I was a kid. I still have a few laying around. A favorite of mine is 'Two Champions of Shaolin'

Awww yes sir!  Shaw Brothers flicks are incredible!  "Two Champions of Shaolin" is also in my collection and a great flick!

cant go wrong with Bloodsport!

Bloodsport is cool!  Definitely seen it multiple times along with many other martial arts films with American and European actors like Jim Kelly, Cynthia Rothrock, Jeff Speakman, Steven Segal and even Jason Statham but I'm more of a connoisseur of the old school Chinese Kung Fu flicks.

My Dad, who is a 2nd Degree Black Belt just flew up from Mississippi to hang with me and my family for Thanksgiving.  Today, we began a King Fu marathon.  2 of the flicks we really enjoyed today were Lady Kung Fu: Hap Ki Do and The Victim

Been watching a ton of Donnie Yen. Wing-chin fascinates me(ironic since he practices Wushu). I don't have my black belt in Kung Fu. I have a first degree black belt in Tae kwon do and dabbled in and out of learning other things to become a better fighter. I have friends in kung fu teach me different grappling things. I love classical kung fu, it's beautiful to look but, but damn some of it can be ineffective in a true fight if used incorrectly... Same with mine however. I imagine your old man can actually fight. Too many people cannot anymore...

But back on topic

That being said. IP Man is one of my favorite movies period. Honestly has maybe my favorite fight scene of all time.

My dad is 73 with bad knees, back and walks with a cane at times so he's not fighting anyone anymore these days. Lol!

Seriously though, Donnie Yen is cool but I've never got into his movies due to all of the visible and unbelievable "wire" work in them.  Chinese Kung Fu is awesome and Wing Chun is a great defense system!  It was Bruce Lee's foundation and then of course he developed his own more "adaptable" style of Jeet Kune Do.  IP Man is an awesome flick!

Just got finished watching..The Shangai 13, The Kid with the Tattoo, Shaolin Red Master, Killer Constable and The 8 Masters.

Hey, sword canes are useful lol!

I understand that. But it's just stellar to look at. Not realistic in any stretch(Jet Li's fighting style) but needlessly entertaining.

They are lol!

I never really watched Jet Li's movies either for that reason as well but I enjoy his Kung Fu.  But, that is why I love the "old school" Kung Fu flicks with artists such as; Wang Tao, Chan Yi, Leung Kar Yung, Hwang Jang Lee, Tommy Lee, Cassanova Wong, Lo Lieh, Gordon Lu, David Chiang, and John Liu to name a few actors from some of my favorite flicks.  The choreography in most of their movies are insane!
