[News] Late For Work 11/13: Ravens' Quiet Change At Wide Receiver

80 posts in this topic

Congrats to Chris Givens for the quiet promotion. Please don't get me all excited about Flacco-Givens chemistry, before I see it torching the field. I don't think I could take the disappointment.

Marlon Brown on the other hand... That is disappointing, because rookie year he had some very clutch moments and showed some promise. Not to be a star necessarily, but to be useful for sure. However, this year he looks like a waste of roster space.

I think that if the struggling Jags come into our house and beat us after we are coming off a bye week, I do not think we will be seeing too many more articles talking about us still having a chance to make history. We better win this game!

As far as Marlon Brown is concerned, I loved that guy in his rookie year. I just do not know what happened to him, because usually guys do not regress that horribly. I do not want to beat the guy up, but he had so much promise. I really thought he was going to be pretty decent, but he has been dropping so many catchable balls that would you have to put in other receivers.

Perriman made Bortles look great a lot which is why I am excited for when he gets back (if he gets back) because he is very athletically gifted. Flacco is probably jealous of the receivers the Jaguars have compared to what the Ravens have as of now. I'm hoping Givens was a steal from the Rams.

I think the players have a much different attitude than the fans and the media. They are thinking they should be 8-0 and why not go the rest of the way 8-0. They feel they should have won those games that they have lost. I'm sure coach Harbaugh has told them that if they play to there potential no one can beat them and if they make the playoffs every team will fear them. They will have beaten Pitt. and Cinn. Of course we know this is near impossible but the players feel they can do it one game at a time.

Just my opinion, but if Perriman doesn't take the field for the Miami game in front of family and friends, he will be sidelined until next season.

IMO Marlon Brown can't catch in traffic, he is afraid of taking the big hit, time to move on. Next man up!!!

Marlon Brown FINALLY benched. I hope that's the change we need to stack a few wins.

Great Job Sam Koch!!  Well deserved.

"Marlon Brown benched" where does it say that? Actually Isn't he in the same position? Only difference is Givens instead of SSS as the  number 1.

The important upside of this "make history" mentality is that the team carry a winning mindset and confidence over to next year. Regardless of the outcome, the team will only benefit from a collective belief that they are good enough to compete with any team. We should see the benefit of maintaining and strengthening this core winning belief with a playoff berth next year (if not this year also). Either way, I am glad that I can expect this team to fight and scrape in every game, win or lose, this season.

If you watch the routes Marlon runs it's usually 1 yard hitches or crossing patterns. Those are for speed guys. Give him some plays where he can use his height and get his confidence back.

1- J.Smith came back from a really complicated injury and now is when he should be getting closer to 100%. We really need him to play like we all know he can.

2- Flacco finally has a deep threat that he can loft the ball to when he's in trouble. We have also seen this O finally grasp Trestmans schemes. I won't get too excited because it was the pathetic chargers D but I hope that we can play efficient from now on.

3- This D is much more talented than they have been playing lately. I'm glad Pees back is on the wall and hope that he spices up his play calling a bit.

4- Thinking of a 8-0 finish is crazy at the moment but I still believe that this team can make the playoffs. We must beat the Jaguars and then win 5 of the next 7 to have a chance. Call me crazy but I believe in my Ravens till the clock says 0 and if I'm not mistaken it's still halftime!

5- I appreciate that we haven't raised the white flag and continue to fight. That's all we can ask for at the moment. If we get that we will continue to show up and support. Even if we are 2-13. Just fight!

6- Ravens fans hang in there. I promise things will get better soon. We need every remaining home game. I don't see the Broncos, patriots or packers coming to town so every game is a winnable game. 12th man please stand up!

A 'nothing to loose' mentality may be just the ticket for our guys. It could be a very good way to set the team up for next year even if they don't get close this one. It seems odd though that so many teams who had great hopes coming into this season got doused so far. Don't know what that's about but it looks staged to me. Bad refereeing deciding games always makes me squeemish.

@Drew P... I have been saying that all season... Marlon has been a decoy most of the season he runs clear out routes and check downs... and the times he's open... Flacco is off target... has he dropped passes... yes he has... but he also run blocks extremely well... he operates better out of the slot but that was reserved SSS... I really like the guy... and hopes he does really well... plus I think people are reading to much into Givens getting the start...Kamar and Marlon are similar in terms of speed... Givens adds a down field big play element which may keep defenses from putting 8 and 9 in the box... which will help in the run game...

That's a good point. I'm sure the coaches haven't noticed that Marlon isn't a speed guy by now. On a serious note: Marlon Brown should not be playing in the NFL right.

I love Dean Pees: "...if you took away 7 big plays...". Well if you took away the 7 biggest plays against all NFL Defenses I suspect the the Ravens will still wind up where they are right now defensively. Please stop skewing stats and spend that time devising defensive schemes that should confuse NFL Offenses not Baltimore Ravens fans!!!

I never thought I'd see an uglier uniform than the Steelers' bumble-bee / prison uniforms... But those Jags uniforms. YIKES!

I kind of like those Steelers Prison Inmate uniforms, they seem fitting....

Starters are only decoys. He is not a starter. He drops footballs and he is not good at all this season. Don't sugar coat it. Other players bad this year are CJ Mosley and Timmy Jernigan. Doesn't mean they are bad players but they are awful this year.

@Trevorsteadmon... wasn't sugar coating anything... just saying Givens adds another dimension to the offense... just like when T. Smith took over for Derrick Mason... not that he was a better receiver than D. Mason but he and Boldin were the same type of receiver and T. Smith added another dimension... a speed element to the offense... this is along the same line...

Lol, looking at playoffs from here equates to a hurdler looking at the finish line with half the race remaining,(oops, ouch). You don't talk about it, you just continue to move forward.

Correction T. Smith was brought in the to replace D Mason... to add a speed element to the roster... and he by no means was a better receiver than D Mason

Sheeeww, and I thought the reason we have such an aweful defense is because Pees is a timid no balls DC that isnt able to get our guys ready for game day. Good to know it's because of 6 plays. We could be 8-0 without those 6 plays going against us. But wait, I guess PIT and SD could say they only lost to us because of a couple key plays. So he is not even able to come up with a real excuse. Why is he still here?

Totally down with the idea of Givens and Perrimen leading the way with Camp and Waller on the depth chart as well in 2016. Totally think SSS is coming back, Waller would make a good replacement for Brown, and Camp is a great intermediate threat across the middle. Adding in Gilmore, Williams, and Boyle and barring a bad draft or FA, we should be back in the title race. I take this season as one big rebuilding year for the Ravens.
