2015 Wild Card Race!

120 posts in this topic

A better thread would be estimating how many horse shoes, leprechauns and unicorns it would even take this team just to get in position, to be in wild card position.

And don't forget the 4 leafed clovers and rabbit's foot. lol

On a side note, I'm really glad Tyrod got a chance to shine. Our boy (sorry, but I still consider him "our boy") is looking good again!!

Considering Pittsburgh plays Cleveland, looks like Steelers will be 6-4 and the fifth seed, while the Bills will be 5-4 and the sixth seed at the end of week 10.

Landry at QB though.

Pittsburgh has three major challenges left (at Seattle, at Cincy, vs Broncos). They need to win every other game on their schedule besides those three if they're going to make it to the playoffs. A mess up against the Browns with Ben out could cost them big at the end of the season. If I was a Steelers' fan, I'd be a bit worried about this game.

That said, the Steelers probably have the inside track to the wildcard right now. I'd say that It'll be them and the Raiders that make it.

Houston and KC play two of the kings of the conference in Cincy and Denver, respectively. Could be a great week for us, but I don't see every single chip falling in our favor. We just have to hope for most of them to do so.

Actually now that I think about it, the Bills winning might be better. With a Jets win we would've been 3 games back from the 5th seed and 1.5 games back from the 6th seed. Effectively 5th out of the reach but the 6th manageable; but with 6+ teams in contention for it.

Right now we're only 2 games back from both the 5th and 6th seed. Both are now realistically in reach for all 7 teams.

6th seed is a little bit further away now BUT 5th comes into play. I like our chances better with 7 teams all in contention for the 2 spots than with 1 nearly out of reach and 6 teams all fighting for the 1 spot we can get.

There are only seven teams fighting for it? There are nine teams between us and fifth. There 12 teams that have as many wins as is or more that are not currently leading a division. Personally, the odds of us beating out 10 of those teams are razor thin, nearly impossible, much less beat out 11. I'd much rather eliminate one and get us closer to the rest. Edited by beanfigger

A win against Jacksonville and we will slide up! It's definitely feasible that we could somehow squeeze into the #6 spot. A win against the Chiefs, Dolphins and Jaguars gives us the advantage. However, Oakland has the advantage over us, so we will need to have the better record. If I were Pittsburgh, I would be worried about going into a deep losing slump.

We aren't out of this folks! It could happen!

I love to optimism for wanting a Wild Card spot but its just not whats best for us. If we miraculously won enough games to get the spot, end up 1 and done ... we're in this exact same position next season.

I can't disagree with this more. Every year teams that win 7-10 games become contenders, and often times teams that squeak into the playoffs end up making deep runs anyway.

If you're insinuating that somehow a better draft position will help us more, than let me once again point out that teams with top draft picks mostly end up just getting top drafts picks every year because losing begets losing in this league.

We're much better off winning as much as possible and getting a winning momentum to our team and drafting in the middle-late of each round. Those are the teams that win next season, and the season after.

they said that last year as well..and we ended up taking the eventual Super Bowl champions to the brink of defeat in the divisional.

If you ask me if I want to see us in the playoffs ... I'm sorry, that's just a total no-brainer. The answer is now and forever a resounding "YES"!

Now ... what I don't like is when players and coaching staff show (what feels like false) optimism, as it relates to projecting out our playoff possibilities if we go 8-0 ... 7-1 .. or whatever. As a team we need to stop "talking" about winning. We need to zip it, get to work, play with more passion and discipline and let the chips fall where they may.

Making the playoffs and being 1 and done may be a bad thing but it also may turn out a good thing if we make a true run. That being said, I just don't see us beating a top flight team. We also have a bunch of holes on this team that better draft picks would help.

I do believe a better draft position will help us more. I agree there are teams like that, like the Jaguars, but then there are teams like the Bengals. They go 4-12 in 2010, draft AJ Green and have been consistent (regular season) winners ever since. We're in that class b/c our winning infrastructure is in place, and we're not as bad as our record.

I have felt a great deal of that as well, we're saying the right things about winning but not necessarily believing it. Is definitely a sign of a lack of confidence and a realization of where they stand in the AFC.

.

Gotta admit, there's something ironic about saying how much you hope we aren't a one and done team and then bringing up how we could turn it around like the Bengals have done the last four years.

I think we can contend with top tier teams. We're not a team that gets blown out. I mean we kept up with the Bengals, Cardinals, and Broncos, yet we lost to the Browns and 49ers. We are better than our record says. If we were to make the playoffs, we have a chance to actually make a run.

Thank you. I've said it over and over again... Draft picks may work out, they may not. But wins... Wins are forever.

There is much more opportunity in winning right now, than there is in picking early next year. We've already proven that a few times in recent history, and so have a few other teams.

Tbh this should probably be in the Other Teams forum.

Yeah probably, at least unless we get closer to it. Guess this will become the playoffs thread for us then

9-7 most likely gets us in! I do think you made a lot of teams lose games they shouldn't, but as long as we get in I don't care. I know winning out for us is unlikely, but until we lose 8 games I have hope lol

Sorry, I cant have fun and play around a bit?

If you play around with the Playoff Machine a bit, make the Bengals lose their remaining games, they finish 9-7, we finish 9-7 and would get the tiebreaker and we win the AFC North!
