2015 Wild Card Race!

120 posts in this topic

We're halfway through the season now and games start to become more critical for teams' playoff hopes. The wild card standings right now stand like this...

5. Jets (5-3)

6. Steelers (5-4)

----------------------

7. Bills (4-4)

8. Raiders (4-4)

9. Chiefs (3-5)

10. Dolphins (3-5)

11. Texans (3-5)

12. Jaguars (2-6)

13. Ravens (2-6)

The critical games start tonight with Bills at Jets! A game with a lot of Wild Card implications. More critical games follow this week. Who ya got tonight?

Tbh this should probably be in the Other Teams forum.

He did include the Ravens at 13th, so technically it could stay in this section.   LOLOL!!

Until we're mathematically eliminated, I'm not giving up. Need a Bills win tonight.

Raiders could win again, Chiefs likely have a close one with Denver. Texans lose, Phins lose. Jags better lose.

A better thread would be estimating how many horse shoes, leprechauns and unicorns it would even take this team just to get in position, to be in wild card position.

Going to be quite an accomplishment if we could pull off a Wild Card spot. Looking like a pretty tall climb to jump over 8 other teams to make it to the playoffs. Why not go for it though? If the Ravens could actually pull it off, Baltimore would go nuts. No harm in setting the bar high.

We could literally shoot about 4 spots up just after Sunday and possibly only be 2 games back. Plus we got Pittsburgh comin up again so it's definitely possible. Just would hate to win 6 or 7 only to come up 1 game short...then those losses against Cleveland, Oakland and San Fran start stinging even more.

We need the Bills to win...unfortunately, I don't see that happening tonight. Will be a great and close game though

I don't see this. The Jets are in fifth. We only need to catch sixth, and all the other teams in between us and sixth (including the Bills). The Jets could win out and it would actually help us because they'd be knocking the other teams down while holding onto a spot we don't need in the playoffs. The Bills losing would put us closer to getting up to six. And if the Steelers (with Landry) and the Raiders (vs surging Vikings) also lose, then the sixth seed is held by a five-loss team. If we win, we're one back in that scenario.

Having said all that, I like the Bills a lot more, so I wouldn't mind seeing Tyrod get another big win.

I fee like a Win by the Bills or Jets helps us to some degree

It's hard for me to see how the Bills winning helps us. We'd still need the Jets to fall apart afterwards. Let the Jets keep winning and beating other six seed contenders for us. We don't need fifth.

We could be within one game of the sixth seed (in the loss column). Pitt, Oak, Buf losses put everyone fighting for six at at least five losses to our six.

To be fair, coming fifth is the difference between facing the Colts (Lolts?) and facing whoever slips between the Broncos, Bengals and Cheetahs. That's pretty substantial imo.

Pretty lucky that the three 4-loss teams have their work cut out for them. Landry-led Steelers, Bills in the Meadowlands, Raiders vs red hot Vikings. I'm not staying I think they all lose, but it is definitely possible. Then with a win we are one game back after this weekend. That would be incredible.

Yes, but we needn't plan for our best playoff matchup when it's clearly a gargantuan task for us even get there. I'm not sure we have a real chance at fifth. It's more helpful for us to have the five other teams that make it in win all their other AFC games (except when they play us, of course) and help us get closer to 6th. Not to mention if we do plan on winning in the actual playoffs, we will certainly have to play multiple division winners because we surely won't be one.

Jets need to win!

Then everything else just happens the way it should (Steelers and Oakland losing) and us winning and then we're only 1.5 games back.

Miami should lose against the Eagles too. Not sure who Houston and KC play but they can't be heavily favored against anyone.

Wow. Only 1.5 games back from the 6th spot with a head to head against the team holding that spot too. It's really not nearly as far fetched as it once seemed. I always believed it could happen, but thought that was just the crazy fan in me.

kc plays Denver. That should be another helpful loss if All goes according to plan and Denver takes care of business like they should.

Houston and KC play two of the kings of the conference in Cincy and Denver, respectively. Could be a great week for us, but I don't see every single chip falling in our favor. We just have to hope for most of them to do so.

Too bad we don't play in the South. I would probably take our Wild Card chances more seriously.

You mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling. If we were in that division, we'd be trying to win it and get a home playoff game.

the wild card picture would be the same no matter what division we were in.
