[News] Late For Work 11/12: Other NFL Rookie Receivers Not Much Better Off Than Breshad Perriman

Yes, Jeffries would be the perfect fit for Flacco and the Ravens. I think this is a must sign, hopefully the Bears want to go in a different direction. Pierrman will be back and that would be on paper a nice one two punch.

We won't have the cap space to be in on a Jeffrey signing, nor do I expect him to ever hit FA.

Just watched the Jimmy Smith interview.  I saw nothing "awkward" about his response.  My viewpoint is that he obviously disagreed with Pees' assessment of his game play but refused to go there with reporters.  :th_sneak-1: Good for you Jimmy!

we will have more cap room then we had in a long time. A lot of dead money comes of Flacco has to restructure not to mention the resigning or cap casualties we have. Jeffries I think will be avalible but a wide out like Jeffries is what we need.

Realistically around $15M in cap space, excluding any extensions we give out to our own players.

It won't be nearly enough to sign somebody like Jeffrey, who would probably easily command at least $8-10M annually.

The dead money coming off has basically no impact since its not part of the current salary cap projection to begin with, and Flacco's extension likely won't free up nearly as much as people think.

And again, I see no reason to think he will be available. He's likely a core part of Chicago's plans moving forward, and they can control whether he becomes a FA or not. At the very least, I expect them to franchise tag him.

i wouldn't count on Perriman for next year. Ozzie please sign Ashlon Jeffrey and give some real weapon for Joe

Think the next tier of players for FA targets: Sanu, Marvin Jones, Rishard Matthews, Rueben Randle.

If Pitta cannot play I would love to see him Coaching our young Tight Ends. Wonder if they can convert his contract into a coaching contract?

In the Brian Billick era 1999-2007 the Ravens hit on 71% of their draft choices in rounds 1-4. In the John Harbaugh era 2008-2013 the Ravens have hit on only 39% of their draft choices in rounds 1-4. This explains why we are where we are today. We still suck at WR and can't seem to pick one? Who knows why but they need to fix the problems they have been having for the last few years and get the 2016 Draft right.

Pees trying to insinuate and pass the blame onto J.Smith instead of protecting his players during public interview will not go well with defensive players. I don't think I ever read that Pees said he has to do a better job of coaching. Even Harbaugh admitted that he himself has to do a better job at times. Not a cool thing to do on coaches belittling/talking down the players to the media. Kudos to J.Smith on taking the high road and not taking the bait from the media, something Pees should learn to do. Tell the players in private/practices and away from the media on issues that players need to get better at. Leave it to the players to criticize themselves in public, not the coaches.

5 times the Ravens did not make the playoffs under Billick. Under Harbaugh, barely missed one playoff and possibly a 2nd time this year. Both won one Super Bowl but Harbaugh has gone much further than Billick playoffs wise. Why didn't the Ravens do much better under Billick with higher percentages of draft picks than Harbaugh. You pointed out one bad year instead of looking at all the years of success under Harbaugh. Am amaze at how people forget the years the Ravens were one of most feared teams under Harbaugh and despite a bad record, teams still fear the Ravens because they know we will take it to them down the wire nearly every game. Can you say the same about Billick? Billick had 3 seasons where Ravens finished well below .500, so far Harbaugh has none.  I will take Harbaugh to guide the Ravens over Billick any day, regardless of percentage of draft picks.I look at the overall picture, am not going to forget the past and throw my favorite head coach under the bus because of one bad year.

I would love to see the Ravens sign Jeffries or another FA WR, possibly Roddy White or Percy Harvin.  I think our TE corps will be very good next season as well, but as far as Pierrman goes I think he may end up being a bust.  True we won't know until he hits the field, but I am a little concerned about his durability and desire to play already.

Looking forward to a brighter season next year and hopefully Joe will restructure and free up some cash to get some reliable weapons on offense.

Go Ravens!!

The only reason I can think about why there is that disparity in our draft pick quality can be attributed to John's full involvement in the draft versus Billick letting Ozzie and Eric do what they do best with cursory involvement at best. With John, while his intentions are noble, he gets his nose too muddied with forcing front office to select players with a passion for special teams, thereby missing out on rough diamonds. That involvement hopefully changes/ceases with the 2016 draft given how poorly the 2015 Ravens have performed. Focus on coaching Harbs - you are tremendous there.

BTW why is Perriman being shielded from the press and fans? Is he still limping?

Because there is nothing to add, the media knows he is injured, what more can Perriman add at a press conference? Maybe what he had for breakfast? The media will needle it to death needlessly, leave the man alone till he is ready. Injured players holding off press conferences with the media till they are healed is nothing new.

@PalmBayRaven... not sure if you are aware but as the college game evolves and most programs move further and further away from pro-style offenses and defenses it makes it more difficult to evaluate players.. and on top of that the chance to develop players has take a turn for the worst with the collective bargaining agreement which cuts down the number of practices and practice hours... its not just the Ravens... its league wide... so to try and point a finger and say its because of John is laughable... I can't believe it... one losing season and people are forgetting all the good that John has done... every year the Ravens are in the thick of things... no one is immune from having a bad year... please tell me a team that knocks their draft out of the park every year??? And the second thing is its hard on you every year drafting near the bottom of the draft every year... New England builds their team through Free agents... how many WR have the drafted that's still on their team???

What or who defines "hit"?

Very misleading because 96% of Billicks draft choices were defense and the draft picks were higher because of record.

All this talk about Perriman's injury, and you want to bring in Percy Harvin?

Jeffries would be a dope signing, but he likely going to get a Thomas type contract which I don't think we would be able to match

There's no better person than Justin Forsett to try to take Terrance West under his wing as a mentor. West needs to buckle down and take this 3rd opportunity far more seriously, to make sure he reaches his potential to have a viable career in the NFL. Don't blow this great chance Terrance, innate ability is not enough to become a pro player. If you always wanted to be a Raven, Terrance, it's time to bust your buns and grow up fast so you can stay a Raven. Make sure this opportunity doesn't pass you by.
