[News] Terrance West: I'm Back Where I Belong

"its not common for a 3rd round pick to be shipped out by a team just after one season." Well, Cleveland isn't a common team. They ship their coaches out after one season.

West was solid for Cleveland, especially when you consider he was splitting time with Crowell and in a one dimensional offense where teams didn't respect their passing game at all. Tennessee is in a straight up rebuild, they never gave West a fair shake, like he said in the interview it was a numbers game, they had a pair of RB's that their front office drafted and those were the guys they were committed to, West was the odd man out without really getting a shot.

Anyone who's watched West knows he's a workhorse back, you can't just bring him in cold a few times a game and expect him to break off big runs. His production comes from consistent touches, get him into the game emotionally by treating him like the feature back. Look at his high workload games in Cleveland:

vs Pitt - 16 carries, 100 yds

vs NO - 19 carries, 68 yd, 1 TD

vs CIn - 26 carries, 94 yds, 1 TD

vs BAL - 18 carries, 94 yds, 1 TD

Yeah, but I hope to see him this year scoring TD's. I, like many, was hoping to get him in the draft. I was REALLY hoping to get West in Purple. I'm glad things worked out that way for him, as well. Now, I'm really excited about seeing him play this year! I don't want anyone to get injured, I just want to see him scoring TD's, because I think he's a really talented running back, just from his stats and success at Towson!

Why would two teams in two years let him go? Coaching changes, deep bench at RB? Has to be more to the story. I read on this site today about "immature behavior". What's that about?

It takes hard work, everyday to make it in the NFL. Some young guys don't make that commitment right away (or never). It's easy for a young player to get drafted, have a pocketful of money, hang with your boys and not put in that hard work everyday. Word is he showed up not in shape in Cleveland, didn't put the work in to get into shape and didn't take learning the playbook seriously. Tennessee gave him a chance but if you play 2 games and have 2 fumbles in 16 carries, that's not going to endear you with the coaches.

Also, looking back, having Bernard Pierce as your mentor may not have been the wisest choice.Hopefully it's just a maturity issue and he will get his head right or he ends up as just another tale of wasted talent.

Things have a good way of working out and I'm glad to see him come home. Been telling him since the draft Cleveland one up'ed us, but hey things are looking up and he'll be good. Home is where the heart is sometimes and I've know him for a long time no worries about the immaturity never was an issue. His number shall get called soon I'm sure of it...

I always thought that we were going to draft this dude before Cleveland took him (which I still think they did it just to spite us). It's nice to see him find his way back home. Hopefully things work out and we ended up with a gem.

Thanks for the info. Makes sense to me. Perhaps a word or two to the wise is sufficient in this case.

"West had marginal success on the field in Cleveland during his rookie year. He rushed for 673 yards (3.9 per carry) and scored five touchdowns overall." MARGINAL? He still has more touchdowns than anyone on the Ravens team this year and he started only 6 games.

If he was a featured back, with those numbers, he would have been on pace for a 1400 yard season.  Who wouldn't take that?

I like Justin Forsett. Let me say that first, however, the Ravens have been at their best when they have had a really dominant RB. Forsett has been around a long time in this league and has had one good year. I Do realize he hasn't ever had the shot that we gave him, but we wouldn't have done that without the Ray Rice fiasco. We've had Jamal Lewis. He was great. We had Priest Holmes. He was great, although he actually had more success elsewhere, to be honest. We had Ray Rice. He was awesome. I'd love to see us have another RB that is, once again, one of the best in the league. This team has a lot of needs. A top notch RB is one of those needs. We got a lot of rebuilding to do, fellow fans.

I just knew, with all the picks we had, that we'd pick up a big, bruising Back like a Jamal Lewis! I am usually wrong when I think we're about to make a smart move with the so-called "skill players"!

We're reluctant to take a chance on a Todd Gurley for a Bernard Pierce or Taliaferro! I tout these guys because they are here, not for anything we've seen heralding their greatness! Same with the WRs!

I guess all those guys who scouted those backs for us are gone!
