The impact of the loss of Suggs

21 posts in this topic

Suggs was definitely a big loss but that doesn't contribute to the offensive woes this season.  Sure, his absence affects the secondary due to a lack of a consistent pass rush but imo we lack high caliber players....impact players on both sides of the ball!

No. I believe the leadership and skill set Suggs left on the field really was big time for us. I wouldn't say we would be insant contenders but I don't see us being a 2-6 team with him here.

To me, we're 4-4 at least with Suggs.

I feel the same way.  Every def coordinator on our schedule this year, I'm sure had to game plan for Suggs.

His presence alone IMO would have prevented us from being DEAD LAST in 3rd down defense.  Meaning

the defense gets off the field and reducing the points scored against us.

This team is easily better than 2-6 without Suggs.  Dumervil gets help and opposing offenses can't key in on him for a double team.  Pees now has two legit pass rushers instead of one.  Pees, like last season, doesn't need to send 6+ as much since his OLBs are good enough to get consistent pressure along with help from the d-line, therefore dropping more into coverage (how many times has a CB failed to keep a WR in front of him when Pees sends 6 or 7?).  The secondary plays and is ranked better which equals more forced punts and less points/first downs against the team.  Considering all these 1 score losses, we easily win more games.

The offense continues to get blame by many but imo they are playing pretty well considering the flock of undrafted WRs that have been in the #2, #3, and #4 position

Absolutely not. Suggs, IMO was the 2nd worst player we could have lost for the season. Defense would still be bad/average but not abysmal.

Can only pray he comes back strong next season. His presence alone means a ton to this team.

We might be undefeated in the division right now with Suggs. A big late sack or forced error by the opposing QBs and those games are ours.

We can do without his edge setting, but we don't have a player who stops the run and rushes the passer like him. Also underrated when he did drop back into coverage. Leadership on the field and knowledge of the game. It is what it is. Hopefully can contribute next year.

i believe we would have been much better.

pass defense starts with the pass rush which we dont have.

however many wont agree though since its clearly pees fault and suggs to them had little to no impact.

Uh yeah I think we'd be much better with him. We'd probably win the Denver game and the Oakland game with him at least. He wss a big loss.

Before someone says losing Suggs didn't matter against Denver, I say yeah right. The defense took a nose dive when we lost him in the game.

I doubt we would still be 2-6, I don't know if we would be good as we frankly lack big time playmakers but we would have gotten at least one more win.

When Suggs went down. I just had a feeling that it was going to be one of those years. Usually things like that snowball, and it has.

No question we have more than ZERO takeaways in the last five games.

Did anyone notice Vick throw that SAME screen play in the Steelers game like twice..the same one Suggs has intercepted like 5 times...that's how good he is though.

He was the heart and soul of the Ravens' defense, probably of the entire team as well. We miss his swagger and attitude. Now our defense walks around like zombies with no one getting in their faces. I sorely miss Sizz and can't wait to see him on the field next season.

They've said in the past they're cautious of throwing those to Suggs side.

When you can generate pass rush, it makes a bad secondary look a whole lot better than it actually is. That would've helped a ton this year obviously. Without him, we clearly are generating very little pass rush, unless we're sending half the defense at the QB on 3rd down as Pees usually does. His loss hurt big time.

After Ray left, Suggs took no time at all filling in his shoes and becoming the vocal leader of this defense.  Plus the opposing qbs don't have the fear in their eyes as before when he was on the field and aren't as hurried which helps with their passing game.  While not yet knowing how good a player Perriman is going to be; I'd say that losing Suggs for the year was just as bad if not worse.  Definitley not 2 - 6.  Suggs was a difference maker, more like 5 - 3.

Tough to say for sure.

When Suggs went out I thought it wouldn't hurt too too bad.
Yeah I was pretty much wrong on that one.

The thing is, there is SO MUCH wrong with our team this season.  Its not JUST Sizzle.

As close as the games were we most certainly could be 8-0 just with him still with us.  Probably not, but sometimes one player could give you just that little edge you need in a close game.
