[News] Dennis Pitta Explains His Difficult Decision

40 posts in this topic

As I breathe a somewhat sigh of relief, I am also a little heartbroken that he will not play this year, but I know it is for the best for Dennis, kind of a rock and a hard place....... However, the fact he will still be on the sidelines to coach our new, young TE's, he is still contributing to the team in a huge way, and if that is what we will have for this year, that is great. Next year is next year, so just take care of things this year, and we will wait to see what next year brings........

Best decision was listening to the doctors. I would have been swallowing my adam's apple to watch him perform this season. Next year, that's his decision to make. I would love for Dennis to come back. We do have a developing core of good tight ends. That's why the FO took two in the draft. Another good move in the right direction.

with all the te's we have it looks like he will be cut next year and we will have a couple million of dead money to deal with yet once again.

I can only imagine how hard it is for Dennis Pitta to not play. While he may not be contributing on the field I'm sure his contributions off the field as a tutor/coach to our young tight ends is invaluable. If indeed it turns out that we have seen the last of Dennis Pitta on the field instead of thinking of it as his last play being carted off the field, he needs to think about it as his last season while healthy ended with a Super Bowl ring.

This has to be one of the hardest things to go through, quitting what you love for who you love. I say go ahead and retire while you're still able to run around with the kiddos. You wouldnt want to come back and get injured again because then come the regrets.

RAVEN FOR LIFE

Invest in yourself and don't play anymore. Your wife and kids will thank you for it. Each and everyday. At least now the organization can move forward and do real cap cost work for the upcoming year.

Crockett, Boyle, and Max makes this decision so much easier.....We are really stacked at TE, Boyle really has stepped up....

Pitta is in a long line of pro football players who had their careers cut short. My heart still goes out to Gayle Sayers. When the Bears came to Baltimore, he was a marvel to watch. No one could run the football like him. Dennis could come back next year. He doesn't have to perform the cuts through the line like a running back. I keep my fingers crossed. Go Pitta. Go Ravens.

It is tough and I understand his struggle, but I think you can't wait forever and have to move on. I wish him the best but after almost 2 seasons of not playing I wouldn't count on him. Fact is the Ravens have prepared to live without him and we have young talent coming up. TE might be the most promising position right now. It might be hartbreaking to see Pitta go through this, but it's not that big of a deal like the injury to SSS. Crockett, Maxx and Nick are doing a good job, even if they aren't the playmakers Pitta was. At least not yet. If Pitta can't play anymore we are prepared and that's somithing we can's say about our WR situation if SSS won't return.

Well as Kevin Byrne said at least he had his chance to play with the legends of the game, SMH!!! I don't hold it against him that he's got that contract that's the FO fault he was injured on the playing field. I say good luck Dennis.

It must be devastating for him knowing his love of the game. However, he has family and needs to be healthy enough to raise his children. So I laud his decision to not come back and take a chance on permanent injuries.

Not gonna sound right for our more emotional fans but, good for Pitta and good for the Ravens. Think about it. Competative edge is the gospel in this brutal game. Pitta is still young and can still ambulate. Walk away with a future and the guaranteed money. You earned it!

broadcasting...tv analyst...is what pitta should be talking to his agent about. maybe hbo will hire him to replace one of those self absorbed ex-nfl qbs or hypocritical wide receiver.

Not following your post, he is not retiring, so if he comes back next season he still risks possibly reinjuring his hip and permanently injuring himself. It probably was not a devastating decision to agree to go on IR this season because the possiblity of making the playoffs is still a huge uphill climb for his team.

I am just heartbroken about this. I had it in my head that Dennis was going to ride to the rescue and save the day of this years Ravens. I miss him a lot. Joe misses him. Maybe next year.

Turns out I was right, but I still feel horrible about it. This is a miserable way to go for him, whether just for the year or as the end of a career that is still to be seen, but either way. A player like Pitta should not have to go through this or this early. My hopes are, that it will improve still over time, but I am afraid, that as much as he would love to and as much effort he will continue to put into his rehab, it may not be possible again.

Dennis has made tough but smart decision. He is doing what he needs to do with this injury and not what he wants to do at this point. If he can come back that would be great, but his life after football should be his primary concern right now.

Feel bad for Pitta. TE is the one of the few positions the Ravens have overbooked. Wish we had a Gillmore/Boyle/Williams in the WR/CB positions.

He can still help the team by being a de-facto TE coach the rest of the season. Our young TEs can learn a lot from him and he can see things on the field that others may not concerning the TE play. Good luck to you Dennis - thanx for what you have done for the Ravens already!

We have to face the fact that with three TE's and newly acquired recievers he may not be back next year.   He is one of my favorites.  Wish this never happened to him.
