The Guitar Thread

13 posts in this topic

Any fellow Guitar/Bass or other instrumental enthusiasts out here? I've been playing for a long time, was in a signed/touring band at one point.

Now I just like to play and record at home..jam with some guys on occasion and customize/mod guitars.

Gibson Les Paul 2012 Ice Tea Burst was my most recent purchase. Been playing for almost 16 years now.. Damn. I have a Blackstar HTC Studio 20 to go with that, and have stopped gigging recently sadly. I used to do weddings. I'm looking for an accoustic that's affordable.

What style? I'm a pentatonic and harmonic minor freak. It's a problem

Sounds like you have comparable tastes...

What other guitars/amps do you have?

I love that pentatonic stuff, probably my favorite player is David Gilmour...he's one of the great pentatonic lick guys

As far as style goes, I've done everything from metallica-esque thrash to some heavy alternative stuff..to playing in a variety band that literally had over 300 songs in the Arsenal lol.

As far as affordable acousticso go..I have a Seagull that I paid around 400 for..love it.

Also, How do you like that Blackstar HT?

Ibanez accoustic, I got it on the cheap for like $200. It's okay.. Other than that I havev an LTD Stratocaster. Works like a charm, and is reliable.

The Blackstar was worth every penny. And I needed an amp on the fly so it does that perfectly.

Love me some metallica but I'm a 70s rock junkie to say the least. Favorite player has to be Brian May. And replicating his tone is the hardest damn thing in the world.

I was actually thinking a Martin GS Mini... Not too pricey and very compact.

I am a retired sound man.

I never met a Taylor Acoustic I didnt like.

Mesa Boogie amps were ideal for metal.

I could not care less about the guitars them selves.

Yeah I'm really big into the 70's stuff too..and metallica..top 3 favorite of mine.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about those Blackstar amps I guess some designers from Marshall defected and made that company.

Brian May is also one of my favorites, and you're right..his tone was amazing.

KDog-Couldn't agree more about the Mesa's I have a Mesa Triple Rectifier..it's a beast, but unfortunately I can't even use it because it's too loud! Lol.

I've been getting into acquiring guitars in the cheap, and making them into something cool.

My last project, I took a Squire Stratocaster that I bought for 70.00 at guitar center, upgraded the nut, locking tuners, installed some Duncan pickups, and re-finished it, then set it up..then for the fun of it, I replaced the Squire logos with some Fender logos on the headstock.

I'd never sell it as a Fender because if you held it, you can tell just by how light it is that it's a Squire, but it plays and sounds just as good if not better than some.

I've also done a few Les Paul renovations too...gives me something to tinker with now that I don't have band practices and shows 6 out of 7 nights a week lol.

Martin GS Mini. I am a fool. Taylor GS Mini. Granted Martin accoustics are nice

Both are top of the line! I'd I had to pick one, I'd go with Taylor though. I just like how they play a little more..not saying that I'd turn a Martin down though lmao

I did this show with some blues band one time.

The guitarist had a Marshall amp that looked like it was used as a boat anchor.

This thing looked like it was beat up 1,000 years ago tossed into Baltimore's inner harbour.

But it sounded,,,, it sounded,,,,, completely amazing. So warm, smooth and sweet.

Never judge a book by its cover eah'?

That's awesome, you just never know! Or else you drop 1500 on a head that you are convinced is going to be killer, and it turns out to be total junk....like I did less than a year ago.

Just an FYI.

If any of you are Mesa Boogie fans, I just bought this cool little amp called a Hotone Heart Attack. It's a 1 watt mini tube amp. Sounds IDENTICAL to a Mesa Rectifier...best part, they go for about 100.00 brand new. Check it out!
