62 posts in this topic

this really sucks because pitta was getting to one elite tight ends in the nfl and third best tight end we had behind todd heap but back to back hip injury hurt his nfl career. i hope he does not play because i do not want to see him hurt his hip again.

Pitta, thanks for the memories. It's Crockett time. Terrence West is intriguing for sure. Can't wait to see how it pans out.

Hoping Pitta can return, while at the same time thinking he won't. You just don't come back from this injury, according to most of the unbiased doctors who have commented. And we have three tight ends, all of whom are playing pretty well. But he is a great guy, and a good friend to Joe, and I really, really hope he can make his way back.

What sucks is the dead money the team has to carry no matter what happens. I agree with Smolka that if the doctors say he shouldn't play anymore now, that's probably not going to change for 2016. Either way the hit against the Cap sucks.

RavensNation thanks you for your contributions Pitta. Too bad it was short lived. It sucks that you can't finish out your career like you envisioned, but you did get to win a Super Bowl with the best organization in the league and played well enough to earn a big payday that will allow you to support your family for years to come. The best thing you can do to help this organization is to retire. You are taking up cap space and this team needs help on the field.

I love Pitta, BUT this is also a business. He should retire I don't see how you rehab bone on bone. He blew out his hip the second time with no contact. Have no idea how his contract affects the team going forward. To this day I don't see how Ozzie and company signed him as if he were healthy. Stupid move on the front office's part. Luckily Ozzie made up for it by drafting 3 stud TEs.

Although in the back of his mind Pitta was probably semi prepared to accept a bad prognosis from the doctors, he has to feel so disappointed. I admire how long and hard Dennis rehabbed and worked to get back on the field. Hope the prognosis is better for next season. A sad reality for Dennis this year, he gave everything he had and did everything he could to make it back.

I hope Crockett learns how to play without injuring himself. Watched Luck "sacrifice his body" in his last outing and he took some crushing blows for first downs. Now he's out a while. I admit I loved watching Crockett carry defenders across the goal line or for an extra yard. But like in other contact sports there's a thing about learning how to fall. Whatever he needs to learn as a fan I hope he learns it fast. Thanks for the West update. Didn't know what his prob was. Carry over losses in taxes I get. Carry over dead money sounds ridiculous. It's like paper gains. They don't exist until u trade. The NFL contract maze is so much voodoo economics but it's good to impress the home town fans. Anywho........

I don't know who this team is anymore. I bet if you asked 50 people to name 10 of 53 people who play for the Ravens they could not do it.

  • “Upshaw had two quarterback hits against the San Diego Chargers, continuing his trend of being close without actually getting a sack,” wrote Meoli. “He only has one sack (in the postseason) since December 2013, and is halfway through a 16-game chance to establish himself as a pass-rush threat in addition to a respected run defender. Perhaps it was asking too much for him to be both, but Upshaw’s prospects in free agency and the Ravens’ prospects in 2015 relied on that happening quite a bit, and it simply hasn’t.”

I honestly don't understand why it was assumed Upshaw would emerge as a "pass-rush" threat. He doesn't have the speed or the technique to be one.  He's a very good edge setter and that's about it.  It was even worse seeing him trying to cover RBs in passing situations!! Good God Pees, what were you thinking on that?

TY for your service Dennis but ur gonna be cut if our organization has 1/2 a brain....and upshaw Will Not be on our team next year because he can't play the position he was hired to play!!!! Take note flacco we are not going to pay you to keep losing games.......please give back some money so we can get ya some actual pass rushers.....or you will be picking out a new # on ur new team the Browns or texans......hey Brady did it and look what they're doing......

Maybe Taylor could be a depth player. Being a former #1 draft pick is not a bad signing if he still shows talent and with the starters we have now, he may not risk that much injury having to play a lot. Maybe 10-15 snaps a game to relieve the starters and he would get decent time and we dont get any drop off in production.

Sorry to hear this. But Pitta is making a sound choice to take doctors advice. Still, very sorry to hear this. Hopefully next year! If not, Pitta brought much to the team regardless in his time here. And regardless I'll keep hope of his return to Ravens team, or NFL in general...but I prefer we see him back here in Baltimore!!!

And just read that Dennis is 30 yrs old...still young, you can heal! Good choice to take it slow.

Brady never took a paycut. That's a myth.

And Flacco isn't giving any money back either, nor should he.

Luv Pitta, but he's done. Don't wreck the next 2 decades over a risky chance. Let's pull in the $$, and invest in the young guns emerging now. Maybe Pitta can stay on as a coach and work with them.

"General Manager Ozzie Newsome never rules out a potential signing just because the roster is already stacked at specific position of strength."

This is why we are 2-6 right now- maybe it's time to change this philosophy as we have glaring holes in the WR/ CB position.

As I remember, he was drafted to be a pass-rusher, so, if he's never had what it takes to be one, it's on the scouts. that said, Upshaw had 16.5 sacks in his final two college seasons - so he probably at least HAD some of what it takes to be a good pass rusher :)

And what if no suitable CB and/or WR is available - like the case usually is once the season starts?

Well, it is - and it isn't. As I understand, Brady RESTRUCTURED his deal - and that's NOT a pay cut. But, the result of the restructure meant that Brady voulntarily agreed to get less "bonus" for his playoff and Super Bowl wins. And that's a real loss, not just pushing money to later seasons - especially as the pats went on winning the Super Bowl. So, while the restructure in itself wasn't a pay cut, it resulted in less money for Brady (poor Tommy :D)

And I've been fully aware that it probably interests exactly nobody on this site :)
