ESPN Power Rankings - Ravens 24th.

28 posts in this topic

Yeah I know, I know, they don't mean squat but they have the Chargers and Cowboys ahead of us at 22 and 23, the Ravens are 24th.

The Chargers are 2-7 and they lost 5 straight, including a loss to us.  So how the heck are they ahead of us?

Cowboys are 2-6 and have lost 6 straight, but yet they're at 23. What the heck??

Don't care....  They can rank people anywhere they want...  Not sure it really means much.  Not to me anyway.  It's the media.  They always put the Ravens where they want to anyway.

We're up three spots from last week without playing. If this type of thing matters to you, take some solace in that.

I care more that this team is 2-6. I could care less where we're ranked right now if we're a 2-6 team, not good where we're placed reguardless.

since the chargers also lost Malcolm Floyd, they should have dropped behind us. But when your talking about the bottom 10 teams in the league it really doesn't matter

ESPN also does what they call a Football Power Index ranking, which is apparently based on some more advanced stats. The Ravens actually rank 15th in that, ahead of a handful of teams at or above .500, and it's mostly due to the fact that we have the highest rated special teams according to those numbers.

As much as it's been getting lost in the negatives this season, our special teams have been amazing this year.

I agree. The main reason we beat Pitt was special teams, both their errors and our good play in that phase. We have great kick and punt coverage and more than a decent return game, which was thought to be a major concern at the outset of the season. Obviously, our kicker/punter combo is about as good as it gets.

And according to Football Outsiders, we're in the top 3.

If it wasn't for the 49ers crap of a field causing Tucker to miss what is usually a gimme for him, we beat those scrubs!!

Let's also not forget SSS's two (would be touchdown) drops!

We might be the best 2-6 team in the league.

With 5 home games to go, we should win  3 of 'em. 5-11 isn't that bad, we'll finish ahead of the Browns even though they'll sweep us.

From a stats standpoint ,our offense is top 10 ! but our D is ranked like 24 th and worse on 3rd down .

I'm surprised our offense was at that level with pretty much no offensive weapons. You can thank Mr Flacco

for that. Truly underrated.

It's just truly sad where our season has gone. If you look at our schedule, it is a joke if you ask me. Hardly any of the teams we are playing are good. Almost all of the difficult teams on the schedule, outside of Broncos, Bengals, Cardinals and may be Steelers (can't tell where they are at because all of their guys have not played together) have ended up being sub par or just bad teams.

We should have a top ten offense with the complete lack of defense of the team we are playing. Our defense is just a joke at the moment. A bad joke at that.

In a year where we had a solid team, this schedule we have would be an 11-13 win season.
