[News] Tight End Dennis Pitta Must Make Decision This Week

52 posts in this topic

I have such mixed emotions about Dennis coming back. As a fan, I want to see him back out there and we sure could use him. But I for sure don't want to see him get injured in a way that would negatively impact him for the rest of his life...he knows himself and his body best, so hope he makes the best decision for him and his family.

We also have to consider that bringing Pitta back means we lose a person off our roster to make room. That person goes on waivers and we can only sign them back to our practice squad after they have cleared waivers. Who is going to get cut for Pitta who may only play one game before he decides he cant do it or ends up injured again. The Ravens are leaving the decision up to Pitta which means it is his decision that someone else gets cut. I think that should happen at the GM level not at the player level. I thought they would leave Steve Smith Sr's spot open for Pitta and then sign someone if he didn't come back, now we have to release someone else we may need. Love Pitta, but there are all kinds of things to consider not just if he wants to. Tell that to the person who is going to lose their job.

Wheelchair???  Not with today's medical technology. Too many medical solutions available.

Line him up as a receiver... give him the short slants and screens. I would love to see him out there again. It's up to him. Bottom line is that only he really knows how that's gonna work out for him.

It does and did happen at the GM level. Ozzie has already decided that he wants Pitta back, and now it's Pitta's decision if he wants to accept that invitation. You make it sound like Pitta makes the roster decision by himself, but it's only up to Pitta now because Ozzie has already made his decision.

With the issue at wide receiver, would it not be prudent to split him out instead of having him take the punishment at tight-end?

Dennis has worked really hard to try to get back on the field to play this game he loves so I fully support his decision, whether he plays or hangs up the cleats. If Dennis does play, especially with our #1 offensive weapon now gone, SSS, I think it will help Joe to know that a familiar and capable vet is on the field as an option. I also agree that with the 3 good TEs we have, it may be wise to consider lining up Dennis as a WR at times, at least to start until they are confident that his hip holds up. Hoping that the hip has fully healed but if Dennis decides to call it quits, I want to extend my thanks for all the great plays and memories he gave us as a Raven.

If he decides to play, he and Gillmore will be huge assets in the passing game and will somewhat reduce Steve Smith's absence. But, having said that, he needs to figure out the risk reward for himself and his family. Either way, the Ravens will support his decision as will the fans.

I would love to see him come back, but two injuries on the same hip, the second with no one touching him, had to be painful.  I imagine it's a tough decision to make because I know he wants to play, but as someone else said, only Dennis knows how he feels, either way I still think #88 is great!

Would be nice to have him on the field but I hope he can avoid any further injury. There's a "bug" going around!

2 hip replacements is nothing to sneeze at...athlete or not.

He didn't get his hip placed twice. He has his same hip it just popped out of the socket. This time he had plenty of time for it to heal correctly. Its now or never.

WHY ON EARTH DOES EVERYBODY KEEP SAYING HE HAS HAD TWO HIP REPLACEMENTS!!

Look Pitta has had the odds stacked up against him his whole life in football he is no stranger to in. Walk on at BYU left holding the record for receptions.

4th round draft pick and later a pro bowl talent!

Heck we drafted Ed Dickson before Pitta!!! I bet we would have done that differently if we could have!

He is a great guy and works very hard! I think it is telling the way he is on the sideline every game, I think he is going to give it a real shot!

If not than at least he got his money because he sure does deserve it!

GO PITTA!

No matter what happens.....we all know that Pitta has always Played Like A Raven. The odds are stacked against him, in my own opinion. If he can really feel good about his physical well being and the doctors think he will be OK, than go for it. It's a tough decision, but I'm wishing the best for him..... and for his family.

If he - or rather, his doctors - decide he can come back, there's gonna be an interesting decision to make - namely: do we have place for 4 TE's on the roster? Because, surely they won't risk cutting any of our 3 current TE's - Pitta's injury history simply doesn't allow that. His hip could do the same again, and then there would we be with only 2 TE's remaining... also, all of our 3 current TE's are simply too good and important to let any of them go.

Make the decision that's right for you and your family Dennis. There's 40-odd years after football, and it'd be good to be healthy for that too.

I think he is one of the better TE's for the Ravens and I hope he does what is best for him and his family. I was at the game when he got hurt last time and it just looked so painful.

Good Luck Dennis!

It all comes down to the doctors opinion.  We already know he wants to play and I assume that his family is backing him up 100%.  If the hip truly is healed and he does come back, I think he will make a difference for this team not just this season but for years to come.  As far as our other TEs, which of them is better than a healthy Pitta?  The only one I wouldn't trade him for is Gilmore.  Not putting down Boyle or Max.  Just saying we know what we have in Pitta which is a proven receiver who can get open.  I'll respect his decision and wish him the best regardless.
