Who to Root for, Week 9.

19 posts in this topic

Update: The article is now able to be commented on.

Now this was already an article posted, but it wouldn't let me comment on it. So as the Ravens' playoff hopes are slim, they still have a chance. I know many people have given on up this team, but I haven't. They won't tank for a draft pick, and I strongly believe that. With the slim playoff hopes, we could use all the help we can get, so here's who I think we should root for in Week 9.

Raiders @ Steelers : This game is special. A win helps us either way, but unlike the article posted, I believe a Steelers win helps us out more. The Raiders have the head to head over us already, which would allow them to pass us if it came down to us 2 for a Wild Card Spot. We would have to beat the Steelers to get the Head to Head over them in week 16 anyway, so it'd be nice for them to knock down the Raiders for us. Plus, the Steelers have a much harder end to their schedule than the Raiders.

Dolphins @ Bills : Root for the Dolphins. The Bills are a Wild Card contender, but I don't believe the Dolphins are. We still play the Dolphins, so we can get head to head over them anyways.

Jaguars @ Jets : Root for the Jaguars. Jets are a Wild Card contender, and the Jaguars aren't, so lets hope they can knock the Jets down. Surprisingly enough, the Jaguars are in contention for their division, which brings me to the next game.

Broncos at Colts : Root for the Broncos. They're gonna run away with a playoff spot, so lets have them knock the Colts down, just incase they become a Wild Card contender for some reason.

I'm rooting for the Bills. I think if they deal a loss to the Dolphins it could be a knockout punch. The dolphins already lost to NE, BUF, and NY, so a loss against Buffalo would be awful for them. I look at the Bills and I don't see them beating NE or NYJ and I don't see them going on a tear. I'd rather have Buffalo just end Miami right now.

Raiders @ Steelers is difficult but I'm rooting for the Raiders, why? Because we play Pittsburgh in Week 16, if we at least win 8 of our last 9, then we'll be in prime position to knock them out. I look at Oak schedule and they have some winnable games, I can see them being a 9 win team or maybe a 10 win team.

Steelers are an 8-9 win team I think, and I feel that them beating the Raiders would help us out, because we need the Raiders to lose more than the Steekers.

We only need one playoff spot, and we have to pass a lot of teams to get it, so if the other five playoff teams win all their AFC games, it helps us. If the Raiders are going to be one of the five other playoff teams, unknown but likely, it helps us for them to beat all the other teams that stand in between us and the top six. We don't have to pass the Raiders and Jets (as well as all those in between), just one of them. Therefore, I'm rooting for the Raiders to win all the rest of their AFC games, along with the Patriots, Bengals (except against us, of course), and Broncos, along with whichever team decides it wants to win the South.

In summary, I think it's better for the Raiders to beat the Steelers, which means we would control our destiny in terms of finishing ahead of Pittsburgh.

You could very well be right. It's a complicated situation with a lot of speculation. I think the Jets get a Wild Card based on their schedule, which is why I hope the Raiders lose. I just want the Ravens to make it... Lol

We're still doing this?

Why not? We're not mathematically eliminated, and crazier things have happened.

Why not? It's not like we've been blown out every game and technically we still have a shot.

The Ravens are a fighting team. There's not one game left on the schedule where I'm saying, "man, we don't stand a chance."

Just enjoy it while it's here.

Honestly the only game I would pick against the Ravens would be Cinci but I dont think Cinci will be playing for anything come week 17 because I suspect there seed will be locked in.

Before the season started I thought "man, there's no way we lose to the 49ers, Browns and raiders". I was wrong. The steelers could easily blow us out; along with the Bengals. There's no team on the schedule I'm confident we can beat. Edited by Cillmatic

In seven weeks when those games come up, things could look a lot different. Have some fun the rest of the season and root for things to go right.

I just think the Raiders are a better team. The Jets have already peaked, and it will be hard for them to maintain their earlier high level of play.

I'd honestly just be ok with a ba year. I want J. Ramsey, Hargreaves or Bosa as well the the top WR in the second. I'd be pretty ticked if we missed a top pick AND the playoffs. This coming draft class SUCKS. I'd rather suck this season and come out guns blazing next season. Edited by Cillmatic

Two byes and the Bills, Jets, Dolphins, Steelers, Chiefs, Raiders as the potential recipients ahead of us.They all have at least 3 losses. Although, the Chiefs and loser of today's Dolphins/Bills team will have 5 losses. Hard to pick teams this week since they're all playing each other. We could end this week with only 1 wildcard contender over .500.

Our conversation in the other thread is where I detail why I think this idea is misguided. I'll change my tune on this as soon as you show me a team that bounces back and wins a championship anytime soon after having a top-five draft pick.

And if that happens, we'd only be two back in the loss column of the second wildcard, and possibly even the first wildcard.

Whoever said "bouncing back" required an IMMEDIATE chanpionship win?

You think "bouncing back" means immediately winning a Super Bowl?
