[News] Marc Trestman Working On Improving Run Game Over Bye

35 posts in this topic

Running the ball for the sake of saying you ran the ball is not very smart. Neither is running the ball against 8-9 players in the box using run blitzes. That's what every team that plays us is doing. You can't keep a defense "honest" when they know you have no WR that can get open against single coverage. Stack the box, eliminate the run and make Kamar Aiken beat us - that's the philosophy of our opponents. Running 40 plays against a stacked box will get you nowhere (why do you think the Average Yards Per Carry is so low?). It worked in 2014 because you had Torrey & SSS and safeties had to play back.

While that's understandable, that doesn't mean abandon the run entirely. 6 carries at the half? no way i can justify that. AP has been running on 8-10 man fronts for years. And while by no means is Forsett even close to being  AP, our O-line before injuries was far superior than the Vikes. You can't run the ball twice a quarter and say it's not working. They sure didn't stop throwing when SD got 2 sacks on 3rd and manageable to get us off the field in that game.

You really want to know what is wrong with the Ravens? Scroll down this page and pay attention to the gray highlighted names called "Pro Bowler". Notice before John was here and after John was here. You tell me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_Ravens_draft_history

you do know the Pro bowl is basically a popularity contest right? has much more to do with who fans like & vote for than actual talent on the field. Fans vote on it. trying to link that with on field success is like saying ice cream trucks cause heat waves beacause they spike in sales in the summertime. Correlation is not causation.

Trestman should work on saving his job. Granted the offense is looking better than it did in game one. Last season Kubiak brought in a whole new system and made it work while Trestman was suppose to simply improve upon it.

So your answer is to throw the ball more even though we don't have the receivers to get open or make plays?  SMH.

No, it's hardly "running the ball for the sake of running the ball".  That's what worked last year and its virtually the same offense minus Torrey Smith..  Did Torrey Smith make that much of a difference?  I don't think so, and not for the money he was asking.

Time to get back to what works.  Let the OL focus on creating lanes for the running backs.  They can use play-action.  Give Joe the option of of a screen defenses are stacking the box.  Kubiak proved is could be done and the players were still in place.
