[News] Late For Work 11/6: Internet Can't Stop Making Jokes About Jacoby Jones Becoming A Steeler

62 posts in this topic

I actually want the Bengals to destroy everyone in our division.

They can have AFC North title, meanwhile helping us get closer to the wildcard. I don't care if they go 16 and 0 in the regular season.

The Red Rocket will always choke in the post season...!

As far as Jacoby Jones, good luck doin the stanky leg with Tomlin !

Lets all make fun of Jacoby Jones and stab him in the back as we Ravens sit here 2-6. If he was so washed up then why was the Ravens so afraid to kick to him during the game? They made sure the ball landed in the third row. Putting people down just to make us feel better is just SICK.

You forget, sometimes the student surpasses the master.  After years of teetter-tottering back and forth, the Bengals have the upper hand.

They may have an upper hand but a hand with no rings. Master 2 Student 0, and don't forget that.

He didn't have much of a choice, did he? He was claimed off waivers.

I've had to explain this to so many people. He's catching a lot of grief right now.

Steeler fans think they are getting the Jacoby Jones of old. That's what the Chargers thought too. I didn't think for second that Harb would bring in Jones when Ross is getting the job done. With Jones being -4 yards in PR. They have claimed the absolute worse returner in the league. I'm glad common sense prevailed and nostalgia took a back seat.

He had no choice being being claimed  but my amazement is with these idiot fans that think staying unemployed was ever an option or  perhaps some badge of honor.

Agree with Crusader. Jacoby is not washed up. Just because the Ravens doesn't sign anybody doesn't mean the player is washed up. This is a financially conservative organization. Jacoby is not a threat as a WR, however he is a bonafide threat as a returner. Period! He may have negative yards here and there, but he will break one open if the opportunity presents.

Fans read and believe Jamison Hensley too much. The guy is a story writer. He is not a scout.

The only player that we let go that we truly miss is pernell mcphee. I'm sorry but a $38 million contract for 5 years is certainly worth it. I know we were cash strapped with Ngata and Rice dead money, but oz needed to invest in future pass rushers. Sizzle and Doom are amazing but they're both north of 30. McPhee can play the run great and could line up everywhere. He has good technique and power. He has 5 sacks in a Chicago defense, imagine how well he would be doing here with increased snaps. I always believe that a ferocious pass rush can mask or at least minimize any deficiencies in the secondary. I pray we draft some bullies early to wreak havoc when Suggs comes back.

James, the problem is the blog writer here is quoting that guy.

It really is a situation of the blind leading the blind.

Not only do I believe that Jacoby will get some big kick returns off, I also believe Big Has Ben is gonna love his ability to separate.........The question always is, "Will Jacoby catch the ball"?

How many Lombardi Trophies do the Bengals have ? Ozzie is the Master and his Cinci counterpart is the grasshopper. Don't forget that.  :D

Over the last 5 years?....You really think so?

Come on man.

The Bengals were horrible for years and they routinely pick before the Ravens and sometimes very high in the draft.  If Ozzie were picking where Cincy picked for the last decade we would be a powerhouse as well.  Eventhough Cincy won the division last year, because we went further in the playoffs, they still picked ahead of us.  I know it is easy to blame Ozzie because of the draft, and I have been guilty from time to time, but in reality, its the old making chicken salad from chicken stuff adage and Ozzie has done better than most with where he is picking in the draft.  When we had a crappy 8-8 record in 2013 we got pro bowler CJ Mosely and I think we picked 15th or 16th, what do you think Ozzie will do with the 4th and 36th picks if we keep playing like this, he will knock it out of the park.  You got to pay to play and to pick high and nail a sure superstar, you have to lose to win.  And don't feed me the what about Stefan Diggs or these other guys who went late in the draft, they went in the 4th or 5th rounds because NO GM thought they were worth a higher pick.  Terrell Davis was a late round guy and every now and then late round guys succeed. Cant blame Ozzie when every team missed.

You among others keep singing decade old praises.

Why is it the Ravens cannot seem to draft players like other teams do? Didn't used to say that. At one time Ravens front office picks were the envy of other teams. What changed? And how did it get this way? Questions need to be answered. This team has been steady been going backwards since 2012. Does the front office need new blood? If so who is the target to change? Lots of questions with 2-6 start. No answers anywhere. What other team would rely on just one wr who was in the twilight of his career? Who made that decision? Salary cap? No. Paid Pitta after his demise began. Made deals that made no sense. No one wants to see this team succeed more than me. But change is needed to get there.

Agreed........forestalling it will exacerbate the problem.

And to wrap it all up where our Front Office has failed in the last several years is this trend to attempt to replace an expensive high quality player with a "less expensive player of similar quality".  That is a calculation that an old man cannot make. It's a young man's game. The same way players have been deemed expendable our GM is now eminently expendable.  It has to happen for the team's benefit.

This writer here is a clear case of a person quoting another that also does not know, does not ascertain and does not appreciate. We have a blind leading the blind article that is being propagated. Those folks will ride the "happy talk bus" until we are too deep in the hole to bail ourselves out in a couple years with a shrewd change.  This goes on much longer and guess who becomes the league laughing stock?

Offense wise the Bengals outdraft the Ravens for sure but a great team isn't a great team until it wins something. Marvin Lewis has 0 playoff wins with a team that pound for pound has been better than the Ravens for years. If he can't win a playoff game this season with a stacked team, he should be fired. This Bengals team is more talanted than the last Ravens SB team. If they go one and done I will be checking Jungle Noise to see their reaction.

I partially agree but he hasn't " broken one open" pretty much in the last 2 1/2 years

Maybe he wasn't a bum. Maybe it was the guy who sits in his booth calling plays for the Ravens is a bum. I don't know..

I am saying how can a guy like Darian Stewart who played so bad for us become a top defensive back in 1 year? It's definitely coaching and wade phillips improved him. That's the only answer I can think of.

Darian Stewart is in a top dollar defensive backfield surrounded by veteran leadership. Last year he lined up next to our replacement scrubs. Believe me....come playoff time the Broncos will get burned in 2 spots in which their team is weak. Stewart is a scrub.

That's the current position, no doubt about that. But it doesn't really say anything about the past and the future. The NFL is built in a way so long streaks of success are notoriously hard to obtain. There were times when both the Bengales and the Ravens sucked. Then there were times when the Ravens sucked and the Bengales went to the Super bowl. There were times when the Ravens were on the top and the Bengals sucked big time. there were times when both the Bengals and the Ravens were good. Now the Ravens suck and the Bengals are clearly much better (the roster and team, not the organization!). Who knows what the future hoilds - maybe this will stay like that for a long time, maybe we'll rise soon and the Bengals get back to sucking again...

???   When did the Bengals go to the SB in since Baltimore got a team back?

The student has beaten the master in the last 5 matches.  The master will not win any rings this year either.  Tables are turned.

Yeah, absolutely. And it's silly you would pick the last 5 years.  We have a Lombardi and multiple playoff wins in 4 of the past 5 years and Cinci has........... 0.0

We are discussing the last "five years" because "Time waits upon no man".  Or in other words, one cannot beat Father Time and Father Time is pounding upon the subjects door.  He's banging on it.

Five Years stuck on my eyes.

Five Years, what a surprise.

Five Years, my brain hurts a lot

Five Years...and what have we got?

(personnel please)

good enough team to win the SB and make the play offs and win at least 1 game?

bengals havent won a play off game with all their talent.

they have been picking earlier 4 out of those 5 years which gives them a better chance to get better talents.

True True....but you're going back to personnel acquired in the 1996 - 2008 period.  It's recently that things have devolved.  If its a rebuild and it is, lets rebuild for the future.
