[News] Tight Ends Will Have Bigger Role In Season's Second Half

46 posts in this topic

I hope this is true, I believe we have one heck of a youngTE trio to boost this team....... Crockett Gillmore has already shown his ability and power like no Raven TE I have seen in awhile, besides Todd Heap, but I think Crockett shows even more potential..... :)

Wow, duh. Tight ends should have had a bigger role since the beginning. They can all catch the ball and gain tough yards. Instead of using them to their fullest, the Ravens have neglected them as offensive weapons. Week after week I have been screaming at my TV, "Throw the dam ball to the tight ends". Sadly to no avail. Now, this article acts as if it is some kind of revelation that they thought of this. Just genius, right?

In the not too distant future, I believe that our TE group will prove to be 1 of the most dynamic TE forces in the league. I am more than ready to see the Ravens expand their role, get on the field experience and develop a rhythm with Joe and the offense for the rest of the season. I am looking forward to the day when our TEs give our opponents nightmares. Yes, I believe their potential is that high. The sooner the better to start dialing up more involvement for the TEs.

We'll have to enjoy them while we can - their contracts will all be up about the same time, so we probably won't be able to keep them together for more than 3-4 years.

i think more tight ends will help alot mor pass protection and bigger targets and givens deep threat will open some holes for the running game and give flacco mor time to pass.

If Pitta comes back they still have to keep the other 3 not knowing how that will work out and when it may pop back out again (knock on wood). However, if we cant keep Williams and Gillmore on the field, now is the time to find out about their durability.

We could two platoon in two TE sets! WOW... that could give Joe more targets then he imagined. TWO TE sets... with Givens getting more comfortable (and hopefully soon... Perriman getting involved) Joe will not know how to act!

Could really exhaust a defense constantly rotating in solid pass catchers/ blocking TEs that can go up the seam or take shots in the middle. hope pitta can play...

Maxx Williams has the talent. What was it... 80% of his catches in college were for a first down or touchdown? We need more of that. Him and Crockett are our two best options right now in my opinion to throw the ball to. We need two tight ends on the field. Our receivers cannot gain separation. Two tight ends will also help us run the ball and we can consistently change up if they both go on routes, both block, or one block and one go for a route. This will also help more in the screen game in my opinion which we have been trying to do but has failed to be a factor so far.

Just add Jacoby for the veteran minimum... It wouldn't hurt the rate we are going another wide receiver or two will go down. At least he can fly and can kick return for us. He knows the system. Maybe returning to Baltimore is what he needs. He has the Ravens tattooed on his body. It is his home maybe that will give him more inspiration to work harder. The reason we didn't resign him was because paying 3 million for a kick returner was an awful deal. He has had a lot of time with Flacco and has more on his resumthan the other receivers we have.

I can't recall a team that possessed 4 excellent TEs at the same time, this may be new ground for creative play making here. GO RAVENS!

Better late than never....the 2 TE set should be the base offense, gives you way more options. Unfortunately, juice will see less snaps, but so will Marlon Brown. Regardless, it needs to happen to spring Forsett, and be inpredictable in the passing game, will definately improve 3rd down conversion imo.gotta go with your strength and play your productive aces

Jacoby gets too much credit by many on here. He has speed so on the return if he gets a hole and does great. Now the problem is he doesn't make choices that well, too often he returns a ball he should have just took a knee for and gets tackled short of the twenty. He has also muffed too many kicks. Receiving he has never truly been good at. Once again his speed gives him the occasional big play but how often does he drop passes? He doesn't have good hands at all, he even admitted he was a body catcher not a hands catcher. At NFL level you need to be able to catch with your hands or to a QB like Flacco you are just about useless.

I agree. And that's assuming Jacoby still has speed - he's 31 years old and speed is the 1st to go. He hasn't shown any game-breaking ability in 2 years, so maybe the speed is gone. Add in bad hands and I'll pass.

I think it's telling that the Chargers released him when Keenan Allen went down. If he had anything left in the tank, you'd think that a team hurting for WR would give him a chance to produce more, instead they cut him for a practice squad WR.

Crockett is the second coming of Gronk. He just needs to own the ball when he's targeted for the game winning catch. Even if it's poorly thrown, I'd like to see him fight through it. Other than that he is a beast!! Boyle is impressive, and Maxx is ok just seems a little soft. Overall we have a tight end group to be VERY excited about going forward

If the TE's get in sync it will open up everything. It forces the opponents secondary to play honest. TE's were a major part of both of our Super Bowl seasons. We have had some great ones.

I understand that he was a Raven and all the fan bias. I'm the person who would never try to get Boldin or Torrey Smith back because of their salary and lack of plays they have had. But Jacoby Jones still has speed. We do not have an explosive returner and that kept us in games. You are right he probably isn't as fast or as good as he was in 2012, but I think he is probably faster than anyone else on our team as of now still to return kicks.
