[News] Late For Work 11/5: Ravens Not Joking About Going 8-0. Can They Really Do It?

110 posts in this topic

But they were already in the world series. That's more like being down by two touchdowns first quarter of the superbowl and coming back. The ravens are nowhere near playoff contention, winning two games in a row would be a more realistic goal right now

dude, do you go around telling children there is no santa claus, too?

fyi, it was 2004, yankees were winning by 1 in the ninth. boston tied and then took the lead and won 4 straight. then swept the cardinals, another words, they won 8 straight!!! they won out - when majority thought they couldn't do it.

They COULD go 8-0, but HIGHLY unlikely. Odds are stacked against them, like no 1-6 team has EVER made the playoffs, and 10-6 looks like it could get you in this year. And don't forget, they are the best 1-6 team in the HISTORY of the NFL, being the only one to lose it's first six games of the season by one possession or less. The problem is, if they hadn't blown three or four games already, they wouldn't HAVE to go 8-0, which by the way, they will not.

Why do you bother to root for a bunch of losers? Go be a Pats fan, please and just give it a rest.

Maybe they aren't rooting for the  Ravens.  Quite frankly, a higher draft pick looks much more attainable than a trip to the playoffs

right now.  Looks like Ozzie could use a REAL high no.1, considering his recent track record on late to mid first rounders.  It's not in my blood to ever root against Baltimore, but what I can see happening is them getting some breaks, playing well, finishing 8-8, and getting another blah draft position.  But who knows, maybe 8-8 can get them in.

With SSS, Ravens are 2-6. Without him, they're going 8-0? Yeah, and John Lennon and George Harrison just rose from the grave and the Beatles are reuniting.

Nice move by SSS and his wife to take the time and effort to bring boxes of food for the food drive when SSS is dealing with a major injury and leaving town for surgery. Well done SSS. Good luck with the surgery.

Yeah, nice move to be sure lots of photos are taken to plaster all over social media and this website, too. Real heroes don't need to do that, nor want to.

Not saying it happens, but wouldn't that be fun to watch....  and experience.

It's only impossible if the team believes it's impossible.

Unfortunately we will probably win enough games to harm our draft position but not to be in contention for a play-off spot.

I can only see 4 more wins out of these last 8 games.  6-12 should have us in the top 10, no?

Man that first game against Denver, watching that defines was amazing, kept Manning in check. Denver didn't move the ball at all and we actually had a takeaway! From that first game I thought this team was going to be amazing. Second game against the Raiders I thought we would win, but Carr goes crazy and torches the defence. Game three against the Browns at home. This should be a win, but no McCown looks like a hall of fame throwing over 400 yards... The list goes on. This team doesn't have the tools to go 8-0. If you somehow think Pees will be a good coordinator you're wrong. The defence is so bad, no turnovers, no stops, no heart at many times. The worst thing for the Ravens to do right now and I have a feeling will happen they will win a couple of games (not 8) and lose a nice high draft pick. Think about what Ozzie can hopefully do is find a playmaker in the back, grab a safety, cornerback, that would be ideal. This team isn't as bad as the record, but this team can refine their look just a little bit and become a contender again.

FYI: The article states that "No NFL team has ever made the playoffs after starting 1-6". This is not correct. The 1970 Cincinnati Bengals started 1-6, but then went on to win the rest of their regular season games to finish 8-6 (it was a 14 game season back then), and they won the AFC Central. So, they did advance to the playoffs where they lost in the Divisional Round to the Baltimore Colts (who would go on to win Super Bowl V).

It's not totally unprecedented. The Ravens still have a chance!!

Going 8=0 is improbable, but not impossible. In fact it's not as crazy as it sounds since the entire AFC is depressed with so many teams at 2-3 wins. All they have to do is lock up the #6 seed against some pretty beatable teams. The rest of the boarderline AFC teams in the mix have more to overcome or are just plainly as bad as their record. The ravens really aren't as bad as 2-6 having lost some really close ones. If they play like they did for 6 out of their 1st 8 games then all is lost...likely in their first game or two back. If they can regain some semblance of a playoff caliber team they 8-0 seems more doable. Even going 7-1 may be enough to make it. And I'd rather make the play-offs at 9-7 then tank the rest of the way for a top 3 draft pick.

yeah they must not fact check a whole lot bc they've posted a lot of incorrect information in the past. Either that or they just meant since the schedule was changed to 16 games- In which case they still probably should have stated that. It's all good though it happens- still love em.

Lol 8-0?? Yeah, and pigs can fly...it must be comedy night at Owings mills. Are we gonna go 8-0 by blowing hot air, or has anything changed with that atrocious secondary, or has the loss of Smith Snr suddenly made us better? Ok, I get it, we weren't really trying before, now we are fully awake. Please, stop setting the fans up for more heartache with the false bravado...these Ravens are every bit as bad as their 2-6 records suggest, and are in no position to make such lofty declarations.

Davenports prediction listed above, has us winning our 3 road games and losing all 5 of our home games.

Jacksonville - W

St. Louis - W

Cleveland - W

Miami - W

Seattle - L

Kansas City - W This game is 50/50. We got Home Field, but they're a dink and dunk team with a good TE, those teams give us problems. It's literally anyone's game. 50/50.

Pittsburgh - W

Cincinnati - L

We are not beating any team with a passing game such as Pittsburgh and Cin so stop it. Teams without any passing attack are about a 30-40% chance of winning.

Cinci may rest starters week 17. Tough ones will be the Rams and steelers. We're good against the run but gotta feelin gurleys gon give us a fit. I actually seeing us taking care of Business at home against Seattle. Cheifs are a toss up.

Love the Ravens but I'm also a realist. This is not going to happen... I'd be elated if we went 4-4 the rest of the way.
