[News] On Joe Flacco's Shoulders To Lead Ravens

32 posts in this topic

How are they are gonna be on his shoulders to lead with no one to pass to.. All the WR have no over the top speed. Which means they can play press coverage and through off the timing. And can play single high Safety more in the box.

The Ravens haven't invested much salary cap space in wide receivers, or used many high draft picks (before this season's first-round selections) because they have faith that Flacco can lift up and carry the offense.

In his speech Ray Lewis said something like "You can make the play yourself or watch someone else make the play" I have faith Flacco can lead the team but the WR's have to catch the balls that are thrown their way. Some of the guys have made some nice catches this year but we have seen quite a few dropped balls that should have been caught for sure especially when your talking about an NFL caliber WR. Its time for the WR's to prove they are talented enough to play in the NFL.

Mili,  I have faith in Flacco's playing ability however I am questioning some of the WR's ability to catch and hold-onto the football when the ball is thrown in their direction because we both know Flacco cant catch the ball for his WR's..

There's a good chance that some of these WRs and TEs will channel a little more of the intense effort that SSS tried to instill in to his younger teammates. I am not thinking or saying that these guys are going to magically transform but I do think that there are some, or hopefully most, that know that their safety net/SSS is gone and will elevate their game. While I anticipate some struggles for the WRs, I am also kind of excited to see who steps up, accelerates the learning curve with their production, knowing that the success of the offense is up to them with no SSS. In any event, the next 8 games will be a great opportunity to evaluate the players and see who rises to the challenge. I bet I am in for a few surprises by the season's end compared to how I feel about certain players today. These guys can't be satisfied to just look for Joe to put this team on his shoulders, every single player needs to share and feel that responsibility as a member of this team.

Would be nice if Maxx Williams started to show up... Our receivers cannot get separation, only good part of our offense has been tight end play. We need more two tight end sets.

Flacco has to rework his contract this offseason or the Ravens will have a repeat of this season again.

His contract has not affected anything this year. He is middle in the NFL salary wise as a quarterback. Yes he will rework his contract his agent and him were planning on it since he signed his contract the super bowl year. But next year will be a repeat unless they can find receivers who can get separation.

I've been saying this from day one Joe Flacco is the leader of the Ravens! It just seemed like he didn't want that responsibility but it will set a FIRE so huge on this team especially if he pulls in the entire Ravens team and lead them in a motivational speech! So unFlacco like and the team knows it but it will have almost the same type of weight like if Ray Ray were saying it! I know I've been hard on Joe but I just want him to push every player on this team to play better like Ray Ray did and they will! LETS GO! It ain't ova yet and we still got a chance at 2nd place in this division because this division always has two teams in the playoffs and I think we got a shot so roll up yall sleeves and let's get beg this team and support them instead of talking draft picks!

I agree with Salamander.........Joe is the least of the offensive problems, and I have the MOST confidence in him. Sure, it may be difficult from here on out with Smith Sr going down, but if there is one thing Joe is getting used to is constant change, and adapting to it. These young TE's and WR's know what is expected of them, and it's their turn to start elevating their play. I am kind of looking forward to the rest of the season to see which players step up....... :)

Interesting how everybody was all over Joe after the first game in Denver. How did Aaron Rodgers make out the other night. I'm not saying Joe is Rodgers, or Brady, or Brees, and heck, maybe not Phillip Rivers, but he is one of the top Qb's in the league.

Joe still has the potential to be a lot better- especially with regards to pocket awareness and the ability to take off when they are giving him half the field.

There was a play wherein Givens had his guy beat and would have led to a touchdown had flacco thrown better. The commenter said that it was because flacco hadn't spent enough time with him to know Given's pace. Flacco finally has a deep threat in Given,we don't know if Morgan will pan out, I hope that it doesn't take as long for flacco and his receivers to get their rhythm together.

I think Givens had been here all of four days when that play happened.

They seemed to be a lot better at it last Sunday.

Despite the lack of a consistent #2 receiver, the offense has been pretty good this year. It's the defense (or lack thereof) that has killed us. How many ints does "ballhawk" Kendrick Lewis have? Ummm, that would be 0.

We are in every game. The finish is the essential part both the D and O teams have to contribute to each other.

I feel bad for the writers on this website. Now that we suck (hopefully only for this year) it must be very difficult to find things to write about. Besides for ground-breaking news like Breshad Perriman is probably in good spirits.

Eyeball test says last two games Flacco has played pretty damn good football, besides the last throw in AZ, he has played top 10 QB football, and thats against two top 10 secondarys with a bottom ten supporting cast. Hopefully he is starting to settle into this offense, and now that we finally have some speed in the WR corps we can take advantage of that rocket he has attached to his right shoulder

Fast plays. It's about time. What a brainstorm! We might be catching up with the better offenses. If you watch the best offenses they get the ball out quickly and utilize the speed of their players. Defenses have huge problems defending the quick pass.

Have you ever watch Rodgers to cobb, Brady to welker(now Edelman) Rivers to woodhead, Manning to everyone (except this year).

Flacco needs to step up and be a more visible leader on the field; he's been a pro QB for 8 years now and ought to know that. Fast plays work when you move with a purpose on the field...getting called for delay of game with a no huddle offense is embarrassing and obviously isn't going to work. Having said that; overall, the offense has been better this year despite the losses. Our defense is blowing the games and unfortunately isn't going to improve until we get a new DC.
