[News] Ravens Will Talk About Possibility Of Adding Jacoby Jones

"[This is] the first I've heard of Jacoby's situation, Harbaugh said.

Really John? After what we've been through at receiver, this is the first you ever heard of it especially when you were scanning the waiver wires for eligible receivers to sign and the fact that you had several come in? Jacoby was cut yesterday and almost every fan of the Ravens knew about it and discussed it at length. You now say this is the first you heard of it today??

You do realize that's not John's job right?

If Ozzie had said this, then I'd be slightly concerned.

I find it hard to believe. As a NFL coach, player, staff member I would think it would be a habit to check nfl.com every night before going to bed.

I would say if this is really Kubiaks system and not Trestmans (which I don't believe) then he is miles ahead of these other unknowns we signed today just because of his knowledge of the system. Now personally, based on the play calling, this is Trestmans system and the Kubiak stuff was off-season counter-intelligence work done by the team to throw off other teams. Take a close look, we are running the same plays the 2014 Bears ran. Anyway, we have better special teams and he could make an impact in the punt return game even though he did not do so well in San Diego, this is still Rosburgs system where Jacoby did well. There is no doubt he can still stretch the field. He has a chemistry with Joe and for a vet minimum, he is as good an investment as what we have invested in wide receiver so far this year.

Signing JJ akes no sense to me.....we have enough washed up players. Let's give the young players a chance to shine.....

I'm torn on this one....... On one hand he is getting older, maybe not as productive as he once was, but on the other hand, he surely left his mark in Baltimore. The thought of him possibly coming back and finding a second wind and life here, makes my heart happy, and I think his real heart got left behind here........ :)

I think I would rather my HC check on the status of his own players than nfl.com

Love Jacoby and what he did for us during the SB run, but with his recent production, is there really anything to gain? Granted, he has (had) some chemistry with Joe maybe, but don't know if it's still there. Of course, he would be cheap enough that it probably couldn't hurt and would be worth a try.

Whoever picks up Jacoby will need to pick up the balance of his contract, $900K (per Profootballtalk.com).  Chump change.. give the man another chance.  I think he's still got something to prove.

I would imagine that Jacoby's confidence is pretty shattered and it seems like confidence (or lack of) has played a significant role throughout his career, starting with Houston. Sure, Jacoby has had a bad season in San Diego, just as there are valid reasons we let him go. However, if there isn't much of financial outlay or risk, it may be worth the experiment to see if Jacoby fits our circumstances and could possibly even come through for the team. If we go back to Jacoby's Houston days, he was let go for similar reasons and we gave him a shot. I understand the valid reluctance to sign Jacoby but he rose to the occasion at times when he came to Baltimore. At this point we need bodies and if Jacoby is primarily a back up, that's fine with me. There's a lot of season left and injuries can still pile up. Jacoby is a player who rose to the occasion during the playoffs when we needed him most and we would not have won the Super Bowl without him. So much has changed with the team circumstances that I think the FO will at least consider Jacoby for the probably low amount it will cost them to find out if Jacoby can be of benefit.

I'm not sure anyone is in a rush to sign Dragonfly. So why not take the bye week and maybe play one more game and if it's not working out with the younger guys, then sign him?

Some times people need a fresh start! Perhaps Jacoby wasn't really happy out West any ways? Maybe he still feels more of a connection with the team that believed in him and that he won a SB with...the Baltimore Ravens?  Bring the man home!  Perhaps, he'll fly again and soar to a few kick off and punt returns for us?

Sign him now or don't sign him at all, he would need the bye week to get back on our page.

But again I'll stress, it's not so much about the reality that he can't catch, it's more about the perception that the guy still has enough speed to get behind coverage so he needs at least one defender to account for him. At this stage maybe we just know the younger guys can beat JJ in a foot race?

i don't know. he does have speed and has done magical things for the ravens. he does have baltimore on his back...maybe, he is ready to carry the receiving unit.

I would love to see him back - even if I know it's much, much more about him as a person, than him as a player... .and also fully aware the chances of this happening are probably slim to none.

Sometimes it's nice to dream awake...

I don't think we can do much worse, if we sign him to a modest contract. I mean, he'll fit right in with the lack of talent we have already here. At least we would gain some speed and maybe a splash play or two on returns. I am not very optimistic about re-signing him, but even if he's still downward-trending, he wouldn't be much worse than what we've got as our 4th or 5th receivers / returners. Sign him!

Sadly, it seems unlikely that his tendency to drop passes would magically disappear :(

(Although, to be fair, he caught the ones that really mattered... In the Mile High... then at the end of the first half of the Super Bowl...)
