Jacoby Jones released..

I wasn't really a proponent of us signing him, but this is kind of disgusting. Disgusting to read, say, and definitely will be disgusting to look at. Gross.

As if the bumblebee/1850s prison uniforms weren't hard enough to look at already.

The optics aren't good. Down right ugly! Why couldn't we get him back or did he have no other options?

Not sure, but one thing I'm very sure about is that we hardly ever (maybe never) resign players that have left.

Again, I wish Jacoby the best, but not against us or in anyway that may negatively affect the possibility of us making a playoff run or generally...what the hell, I can't wish him the best until we are completely mathematically eliminated for the season along with the Steelers.

Could totally see in week 16 us being down 5 against the steelers with a few minutes left- kicking to Jacoby and him taking it out 7 yards deep....all of a sudden he just stops at the 3 yard line and flips the ball to Anthony Levine and he strolls in for the touchdown. Then Jacoby pulls up his sleeve exposing his Ravens tattoo and just pats on it signaling to the crowd at MnT.

Then he gets released immediately and we pick him up for the playoff run where he returns to 2012 form. Boom.

You're kidding right? That's totally unrealistic. We'd be up 5. ;)

You saw how good he was against us last week... Not a factor, and actually helped us out a bit...

P.S.  I was a huge Jacoby fan, but we have to remember the bad, as well as the good.  There's a reason he was released... by both teams.

Why do people care that he's in Pittsburgh? Yeah it's weird but from a football perspective it means literally nothing. He didn't do anything of substance for us in 2014, he didn't do anything of substance as a Charger, he wouldn't have done anything of substance back in Baltimore, he won't do anything of substance in Pittsburgh. The KR is a dying role in today's NFL with all the touchbacks, AB is still their PR, it was more about them getting rid of Archer finally than getting anything significant in Jacoby.

Outside of the "weirdness" factor I don't see what the big deal is

It's not even "weird" to me.  This is the NFL and it happens all of the time.  Players get cut, released, traded etc so this is the norm.  Even as I type this I'm seeing former "Ravens-personnel" in the Browns vs Bengals game on both sides.  It happens!

I wonder if he and Tomlin shared a laugh about their little run in a couple years ago ... If I were Jacoby, I'd have to ask ... "C'mon man, you can tell me now ... you did that on purpose, right?"

If this doesn't motivated Jacoby to return to form, nothing will. I recall some stating that Ray Lewis looked finished after the 2006 playoffs and he was able to play an additional 6 years. At 31 Jacoby is not old but he did appear to have added a few extra pounds in 2014. Expect the Steelers to provide extra help in the attempt at getting JJ moving again.

If he had no choice, then I have no choice but to not give a crap

It will be really really odd seeing him those colors though. Yuck.

I think Jacoby will have no problem laughing it off, he's making 7 figures to watch a ball sail over his head or take a knee 95% of the time he's on the field.

Pretty sad to hear he's a Steeler now. Assuming they keep him long enough, December's game against our rival got a whole lot more interesting.

While I agree that re-signing JJ after we traded him to SD would have made little sense, it will be weird watching him play in BMore for the Squeelers. It is also a tad ironic that finding a suitable replacement for him was one of the three biggest questions left unanswered heading into the regular season. It once again demonstrates a failure by the FO to groom someone in the organization to be a kick off & punt returner. It would not surprise me at all to see JJ get behind one of our defensive backs and haul in a long TD pass from Pig Pen to win the game when the Squeelers come to town. He did help us stretch the field in 2012 when given the opportunity to do so in the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Wishing Jacoby well except when he plays us!!!

Ironic, but he's been pretty bad outside of his stint with us.

Who knows, maybe he gifts us a fumble in a few weeks. He's always been prone to helping us out.

Or maybe he scores the Touchdown against us that gets us the overall Number 1 draft pick!

Yeah, I wasn't too stressed either way about whether we got him (would have been nice on the cheap, but I think Ozzie made the right call about cutting him and I'd have no complaints about letting him go elsewhere), but seeing him become a Steeler leaves a bad taste in my mouth. An underrated number of great memories of him come against the Steelers so it just doesn't feel right to see him join them.

Yeah, our Front Office have made a whole bunch of good calls recently. We could be 0-8.

Oh Jacoby. I know ya gotta get paid but this hurts.

BTW I wonder if Tomlin is gonna walk out on the field any more.

No...this time it will be Harbaugh and Ozzie, sticking their butts out onto the field of play, but pretending they don't notice they are interfering as Jacoby flies by with the kickoff...maybe Oz even chases trying to tackle but comes up with only handfuls of air.

Someone in Pittsburgh thinks Jacoby has some game left....let me see...offensive minded...team that clicks with wide receivers and running backs ..........I think I'll put my stock in Pittsburghs evaluation....If Jacoby does produce, what will that say about our evaluators?  Will more here be ready to join the chorus calling for a change in that case?

I just meant the fact that he's now on our arch-rival's team makes it interesting.

I dont think just because we didnt bring him in for a half a year means we should question our evaluators, pretty sure we are doing that already.

And what happens when he inevitably doesn't produce behind Wheaton, Bryant, and Brown?

Yeah?....well, I'm just not buying into the notion that "we let guys walk that are seconds".  Don't buy it for a moment.

Most of our "walk aways" go to teams in crisis with less supporting cast. Regarding Kruger, the Browns are the Browns, except now they can beat us.

Dannell Ellerbe can't stay healthy, but he played phenomenally for New Orleans when he came back. Now he's injured again. The fact that Joe Philbin didn't appreciate him is not surprising. Philbin let Vonte Davis go too.  Philbin got canned for a reason...He couldn't evaluate talent.

We are 2-6, theres been plenty of mistakes here to go around too.

There are three coaches that are the Executives of Football Operations and Joe Philbin wasn't one. Jeff Ireland can be thanked for that

If you watched "Hard Knocks...Miami Dolphins" you'd know what Philbin did.

To claim Jacoby off waivers, we would have had to assume his contract and probably shouldn't invest that much of our less than ample cap room. Had he cleared waivers (damn you, Steelers) we might have offered him a contract at vet minimum. We'll never know now.

So one season of an HBO show that's meant to draw rave reviews and you're now an expert on the Dolphins football operations? Cool deal

well, clearly nothing happens

It'll go back to the way it was before Jacoby got released. No one will care.

I'm honestly shocked at the fact that people were so up in arms to sign him because almost no one was lamenting his absence in season before this release

The guy allowed the ball to take a Baltimore Bounce on Sunday, pinning the Chargers back on the 3 yard line, almost allowing 2, (not 1, but almost 2) safeties.  He received another kickoff and got nailed right away too...  He was a non-factor on Sunday.

edit:  I'm not worried.  Our Special Teams is playing "lights out".

I wasnt happy when we let him go, it was obvious we lacked that explosiveness on SPT, but he was too costly
