[News] Late For Work 11/3: Ravens Work Out Hakeem Nicks, Other WRs

I want to believe SSS is going to come back for 1 more season. I believe there is a chance but I think he wants to see how the surgery goes then talk it over with his wife and family before he commits.

"Massive blunder"?  That's quite an overstatement.  Given that Nicks has never regained his form from 2011 injuries and Oher was a solid poart of the team even if he didn't live up to a 1st round grade I can't see picking Oher over Nicks this as a "wrong" move.  Both helped their teams earn a SB so I'd call this a "push" at best.

oher was healthy, but thats about all he has over nicks. he was solid in the run game but was nothing short of a liability as a pass protector and was a penalty machine, and no not just false starts, he also had lots of holds.

for a stretch nicks was one of the top wr's in the league, a guy like that and we likely avoid problems like the lee evans drop and the houshmandzadeh drop in the playoffs, of course it depends on the injuries, but oher was average at best and was known for drive killing penalties, he had his moments but overall was pretty close to a detriment to the team with his lack of pass protection and the absolute whiff that he was good for at least twice a game.

Although not a WR... any update on Pitta? Would like to see more multiple TE sets while testing our other receivers (besides M Brown but including the PS slot receiver). Reggie could be that Mason type player if healthy, really haven't followed Nicks to voice an opinion on him

Wish we could afford and trade for Calvin Johnson, he would fit perfect with Joe, very humble and a big target.

While it would surely be great to have Megatron, and Flacco would be thrilled - his cap hit for the season is probably prohibiting.

hard to have confidence in Nicks, he's getting passed on so often for a reason. dont know how i feel about continuing to bring people in, kind of a moot point. Ravens top 5 receiver? in no order in particulary: Quan, Mase, Smith Senior, Torrey, easily then pick one out of Jackson/Ismail.

Nicks just fell off a cliff. The dude was really good, but got hurt and never regained form. He's 27 going on 38.

Hmmm... Will Davis has apparently just tweeted to Chuck Jacobs welcoming him as a new Raven... He's a WR in his sophomore season, and has been cut by the 49ers - and apparently has no game stats.

Anyone knows anything about this?

He's been signed to the practice squad.

Put Brown on the practice squad because he sucks.

He can't be put directly to the PS from the active roster. The rules say he first has to be cut and put on waiver, and can only be resigned to the PS if he clears waivers or gets unclaimed off waivers by another organization.

That said, with our shallow and not-exactly-great depth at WR I cannot resally imagine Ozzie voluntarily make it even more shallow...

James Jones was cut twice, and from the Raiders no less. It's just a matter of finding the right fit. He's only 27 so maybe he could use the added motivation to train harder. Can't just count him out. Especially with the ability he has/had

Jones was a cap casualty. he's nearly 30 and the packers were bringing in new talent and taking of Nelson and Cobb. he just didnt work out in Oakland as they opted recharge with some younger guys for Derek Carr to work with, and the packers picked him right back up when Nelson went down. James Jones' performance has never been the issue with him, its just economics and his age workign against him.

Nicks is differnt. He's only 27, but had a million injuries, tried out for half the league inclduing his old spot where he had the most success and not even they want him. He aint the same guy. cant be.

Why do we think we'll get better by signing an over-the-hill receiver that nobody else wants? Let Givens and Ross show what they can do. We have nothing to lose at this point, so use the time to evaluate up-and-comers, not down-and-outers.

i really believe they should give osemele a few starts at LT after the bye. if he is a better option than monroe and hurst than maybe we have our LT of the future on the roster already.

I've been saying this for weeks on end. Monroe has been a HUGE disappointment, and I don't think he's going to get any better. Urschel is probably ready to start at LG, so let's give this a try. It could, also, help tell us how much we want to try to re-sign KO after the season. Yeah, he'd be more expensive at LT than LG, but that's only because LTs are so much more valued and important, and rare (good ones that is). KO has that mean streak that I like to see defending Joe's blindside. Give it a try, Harbs. At this point, what have you got to lose. Evaluating All of our players should be what the rest of this season is all about.

I really think the guy we should have put every effort into getting was Alshon Jefferey. Of course, it would have had to have been a trade and sign deal since his contract with the Bears ends after this season. But, I heard that the Bears' asking price was a 3rd rd draft choice, and that would have been a steal for Jefferey. If we could have got him to agree to a long term deal, it would have been a Great move. If Perriman does work out, can you imagine him and Jefferey as our #1 and #2 receivers next year? That sounds pretty awesome. I have no idea what he will cost as a free agent next year, but Ozzie just Has to give up on this idea of his that we can be successful picking up washed up vets, and not investing any money on our wr corps. Joe has been without legitimately quality weapons for much too long. It's time to rethink things, Oz.
