[News] Late For Work 11/3: Ravens Work Out Hakeem Nicks, Other WRs

83 posts in this topic

Good for you. I wish everyone here was like you. Negs are negs. It just means someone disagrees with you. I hate it when people hold back in fear of negs. Go out on a limb. Say what you believe is right. Unless you attack a person instead of his action or opinion.

We can agree to disagree but we can never agree if we don't share opinions ;)

Wow thanks. You liked it so much, you posted it twice!! Lol

It's no surprise that the Ravens are last in the league in interceptions. If our defenders are constantly 10 yards away from the receivers and where the ball is being thrown, it's rather difficult to touch, much less intercept the ball. Drives me nuts.

"Ravens have 3 INTs on 288 opponent passes. Rate of 1.04% is lowest in league, have not had INT in almost 5 1/2 games "

Also, when was our last sack?

Sunday, Jernigan

No worries. Negs really don't bother me.

You are correct about bringing in a veteran. I welcome that. Whomever they decide on should actually be of some help tho. I think (here comes the negs now) Reggie Wayne would be a real good fit for Flacco. Not too fast to out run Joe's throws but a crafty route runner to move the chains. Not to mention he would probably come cheap.

Any vested veteran could help - if not, by providing veteran presence in the locker room and WR meeting room. Veteran help can be invaluable - and both Nicks and (even more) Wayne could easily provide that.

What would be good to know is why Wayne requested his releae from the Pats at the end of the pre-season. Speculations were that he's decided hes not in the form or health to play anymore, so he might have decided to hang'em up - but that hasn't yet happened...

I would agree - as, in spite of the W I still think our season is beyond repair - so why not use it to evaluate talent, right? Brown - while very probably nowhere near truly NFL-ready yet - has definitely shown potential in the pre-season, that would merit some further testing. adly, the WR's we got from the undrafted pool would typically last for one or two seasons: Deonte, LaQuan and more and more apparently Marlon Brown... all good for a season or maybe two, but spectacularly unable to progress beyond that point. That's why it could be immensely useful for Dan Brown to get tested as soon as possible.

Am I the only one here that thinks we need a WR regardless of how many more wins we can get. I think we need a WR because Joe Flacco needs positive reps under trestmans scheme. If we lose one more WR then defenses are literally gonna stack the box and come after joe on every play. Then none of our WR will learn a thing, joe will get killed, and our RBs will look like fools. I just think it's unfair to our coaches, players, and us fans. I would not mind if this team loses every single game as long as Joe gets this offense 100% before next season. I don't care about the scores but come in now we wee proud ravens. We don't just roll over and wait to die. We have 8 games to develop guys and maybe ruin a few other teams playoff hopes.

I don't see bringing in washed up vets at WR as having any value for us at all. I'd rather we run consistently with Ross and Givens and Aiken and use M. Brown and Butler in a light rotation. Bring D Brown up from the PS until "He who shall not be named" is ready to play.

If either Waller or Camp would have been able to play at all this season, it is a shame they are on IR. I still think they both have more potential for our future that others currently on our roster (and certainly more than a guy like Nicks).

Juice is looking solid lately. I wouldn't have expected with the way FB is becoming a forgotten position in the NFL that he could make any impact beyond a blocker, but I'm a fan! Harbaugh brothers like their fullbacks I guess... Marlon Brown on the other hand - he looked good in his rookie year, I was rooting for him to leverage the opportunity, but he's becoming a non-factor by no one's fault but his own.

Can't hurt to look at them / explore other options (trade). Don't see Nicks as being productive though - he's already tried and been cast off multiple teams. Be sweet if Boldin would come back, but don't see that happening either; we could talk to teams going through a "fire sale" though to see if there are any viable options.

I definitely would love to have Reggie Wayne sign with us. He would be a great replacement for Steve Smith for the rest of the season.

"Ravens have 3 INTs on 288 opponent passes. Rate of 1.04% is lowest in league, have not had INT in almost 5 1/2 games" Clearly this goes hand in hand with playing 10 yards off a receiver on 3rd and 3. You have to be close to the receiver first to break up a play, secondly to intercept it. The only way we get out of 3rd down on a passing play is when the qb throws an errant pass or the receiver drops it. I can think of about 2 plays, one by Will Hill and one by Webb where a pass was actually broken up. Clearly the secondary is not what it was supposed to be. All the starters are there, the front line is getting pressure but the secondary is bad and we now have to deal with 2 cornerbacks who are very much over paid and look to eat more dead money next year as they weed out the poor secondary this off season.

James Hurst is atrocious. He is a liability on every single play. He's going to get Joe killed out there. He has already and will continue to cause sacks and turnovers in key situations by being a complete turnstile "protecting" Flacco's blind side. IF Monroe isn't healthy enough to play, I think we need to seriously consider bringing in a LT instead of a WR. Our WRs aren't a good group, but with protection Joe can get the ball to them and they can make some plays. But if Hurtst is going to be our LT, it won't matter which washed up (or practice squad) WR we bring in, it won't do any good. I doubt there is anybody any good out there at LT right now that we can afford to acquire, but I have to think that just about ANYBODY would be better than Hurst has been.

Looking at those PFF numbers reminds me.....C J Mosley has been getting toasted in pass coverage. I thought he was OK in coverage last year, but this year he has not been doing a very good job.

It would be great to pick up some vets, but not via trade. There's no reason to mortgage the silver lining of this brutal (brutally close) season. Climbing into a wildcard is not a safe bet. If the vets are cheap free agents pull the trigger. But I think the "right player, right price" mantra should take all draft pick trades off the table. As the actual numbers of the draft pick comes into focus, we're starting to see the 'price' part of the player equation. Even if those future mid-rounders are used as currency to move around the draft, the long term impacts of rookie contract caps vs. early career production mean the price is too high to trade picks for an aging vet. The Steelers and Bengals have made our recent drafts look foolish (I'd down vote myself for saying that), but it's true. The weapons they've acquired on offense are nasty, and the free agent flyers they've taken have not hurt the team (Bengals in particular).

The Media did 2 things.... They made Sanchez the next Namath... Ruined him and his career.... They did the same with Kaepernick... ruined him and his attitude TOO. Ask Torrey Kaep. It's not about you, it's about the #TEAM

PFF numbers are a joke. Anyone that knows football, knows that it was Will Hill that gave up the wide open touchdown to Floyd. The corner "handed off" the WR to Hill, who was out of position and late in the coverage (the commentator even mentioned this). Yet, PFF gives a negative grade to the CB and a positive grade to Hill. Same thing with Torrey's touchdown, that's Will Hill's missed assignment not the CB. And PFF does not account for zone coverage. If I'm responsible for covering the RB coming out of the backfield but the tight end catches a pass in the soft spot right out of my zone, PFF records that as a negative for me because I'm the closest player even though the safety was supposed to come up on the TE.

But Mosley does look a bit out of sorts. I think its a combination of the sophomore slump and him not being 100% healthy.

i really believe they should give osemele a few starts at LT after the bye. if he is a better option than monroe and hurst than maybe we have our LT of the future on the roster already.

ehh, nicks shouldve been a raven all along, taking oher over nicks was a massive blunder, even if both players have underwhelmed, nicks was far more productive for a certain stretch than oher ever was. although i still think this season is a lost cause and if we sign nicks im hoping that its for depth purposes NEXT year, meanwhile in the offseason we address WR by finding a young guy who is proven OR by drafting one in the mid first or early second depending on how the board falls

"Massive blunder"?  That's quite an overstatement.  Given that Nicks has never regained his form from 2011 injuries and Oher was a solid poart of the team even if he didn't live up to a 1st round grade I can't see picking Oher over Nicks this as a "wrong" move.  Both helped their teams earn a SB so I'd call this a "push" at best.

I think nicks would be a good fit for us, always been a fan of his since his north carolina days... But seriously we should get Joseph Randle!!!! just got released from the Cowboys! He would fit are zone run scheme perfectly, Forsett is good but only because of are system!!! Get a talented rb like Randle who is still young and can develop put him behind are big maulers and i feel like it would make all the difference.
