[News] Ravens React To Steve Smith Being Out For Season

38 posts in this topic

Steve Smith Sr. is the ultimate Raven. I don't say this lightly because I respect those Ravens legends very much. In the short time he's played for us, he's shown to display more Raven like qualities than players who've been with us much longer! Respect to you Mr. Steve Smith Sr.! RESPECT!

Such a huge void in our offense now...You can't replace a Steve Smith. He is the embodiment of what it means to play like a Raven. Now the others have to step up and show that they can do it, too.

I became a huge fan of SSS. I wish him all the best in whatever he decides to do. I will keep my fingers crossed he goes into the HOF as a Raven. It would be a great honor for Baltimore.

Steve, I respect your and your family's decision to spend more quality time with your kids. But, if you decide to make a go of it next year, many fans here in Baltimore will cheer you on. Heal well. Heal fast and whatever your decision is, thank you for the time you have been here. Peace and Prayers my man.

If healthy I thought there would be a chance he'd come back. With this injury at his age sadly I don't see it. Starting now he'd have to work his butt off to make it by the regular season and it would be close. We know he has the mental and physical toughness to get it done but his mind was already thinking this was the end.

Some of the best players to ever play the game at some point in their career played for the Ravens. Rod Woodson, Deon Sanders, Shannon Sharp, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Ogden, AND Steve Smith Sr. Proud to see him wear the purple and black and just ball every time he hit the field. If this was his last game, and IMO a big if, then congrats on going into the top 10 and see at the HOF in 5 years.

The Perriman injury, the Suggs injury, Gary Barnidge and that ridiculous catch, the Urschel illegal procedure, the Chris Johnson/Brandon Williams fiasco, Steve Smith out for the year, of the things we can't control, nothing but the Steelers kicker has gone right for us this year, it's been tough.

Just give Steve time off from now to next year's training camp, to spend all the time rehabbing and with his family. That would be quite a bit of time to spend with them, maybe he could intentionally get after his kids on their homework too much, and bore them by telling them the same stories over and over, and they'll want him out of the house immediately, right back onto our roster for one last go at a Super Bowl.

Why is Webb a spokesperson for the Ravens? Frankly I hope someone takes his job that can stay healthy. I would love to hear Joe working out with his receivers during the bye week.

"I'm not afraid to say when you have a guy like that, what he means to this team, this organization, myself, what he's done and just the competitor he is, it's probably a bit tougher," quarterback Joe Flacco said.

^ I definitely agree with you on this Joe!  Terrible loss for the team!  Hang in there guys and keep fighting!

I'm sorry to say, I have to agree.  This injury takes a year to come back from, especially for someone who uses quickness and speed.  Remeber when Suggs came back after 8 months?  He could set the edge in the run defense, but his pass rush was non-existent.

The Ravens in their short history have been blessed with so many outstanding players that I am not sure I would have enough room to list them all but SSS will always be included in my list of great Ravens. I wish him the best in whatever he decides and appreciate all the great work he has done here (so far).

Man the bad luck just continues to mount. Our Defensive and Offensive leaders both are out for the year. We need to keep fighting though because we have a lot of talent, but we need to minimize our blunders!

This season is the one every die hard Ravens fan will benchmark as the culmination of tough breaks and ridiculous injuries. Losing Steve and TSizzle is like losing parts of our soul .  We have to sustain and the TEAM must use these events as the stick to beat up every opponent on our schedule.

Smith spent a majority of his rookie season as a kick and punt returner, leading all rookies in net yardage with 1,994 yards, and landing in fourth place among all NFL players behind Priest Holmes, Marshall Faulk, and Derrick Mason. In his first play as a professional, Smith returned the opening kickoff of the first game of the season for a touchdown. Smith also had 10 catches for 154 yards, and rushed 4 times for 43 yards.

However, the team would finish 1-15, winning only their opener against the Minnesota Vikings.

I'm seriously starting to believe that all of our misfortunes are happening for a reason. We couldn't possibly predict what that reason could be - a high draft pick and HoF player being selected in the draft, top players returning in best shape and motivation to prove doubters wrong, we being able to keep key players due to lackluster performance this season, whole team being extra motivated for next season to make another SB run.

But just to see everything going wrong that possibly can go wrong, and then seeing some things go wrong that seem to defy all logic, makes me believe that destiny has something brewing for us.

Nice to see the Ravens in the win column again, but losing SSS was another sucker punch to the gut.  I wish Steve well and will respect whatever decision he makes on whether to come back for one more year or retire.  You hate to see such a competitor go out that way, I for one hope he decides to come back and give it one more try.

Looks like it’s time to take of the training wheels for the rest of the WR corps, next man up and show us what you guys are made of.  Keeping my fingers crossed that someone will step up and take flight and become a reliable receiver.  Go Ravens!

I don't think Steve is coming back, shame that he had to end his career like this. But, think about it, he's 36 and just tore his Achilles, his family still needs him and the last thing they want is to see him a year older and even more beaten up. He wants to be with his family too, all the time he is going to be spending with them will make it too hard for him to pull away from them and to put himself through another NFL season. He trained and conditioned as hard as he could to make sure this was his last, but sometimes when you play with house money you just wind up going home with the money you came in with. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, I mean it was one hell of a ride. I appreciate you Smitty, I was skeptical about us signing a 35 year old wide receiver to be Flacco's go-to guy but man, you were all that and more. Loved to watch you play for us, shame it was only a couple of seasons. You earned your retirement, more so than most.

I don't think Steve Smith comes back. I thought he would before this injury, because he was playing at a high level and was avoiding one of those huge injuries. A torn acl is hard to come back from, and I don't see him working back from it to play one more year in football when there is a chance he could tear it again. I love Steve Smith and I wish he played here his entire career, but he was talking retirement before this year and now he took a huge injury. Ravens need to start losing and get a huge playmaker in this next draft for the offensive side of the ball or sign one. I'm thinking we need to start looking out for the next Gurley and go back to our roots of ground and pound because we cannot select receivers and Flacco will go down as the just an average quarterback who never had a chance to put up huge numbers because of lack of weapons.
