Where do we pick?

941 posts in this topic

I m playing devils advocate but I would not be mad if we got Elliott but we need pass rushers bad if we slide to much they will be gone

I would def. be upset. Especially if we picked him over guys like Ramsey, Hargreaves, or Stanley. Shoot, theres plenty of guys I would pick over him at where we stand in the top 10.

I don't have a college team so I'm not caught up in that SEC bias stuff (though how would it be any different to your OSU bias?). Elliott's a good player, just not the first-round talent Gurley was. And tbh, his production isn't going to convince me that he is in that tier of franchise-changing guys who can walk into any team and make them a dominant rushing side on his own. It just means he's a good player with a great OL and dynamic group of QBs.

We can agree to disagree but our biggest need is still pass rusher since we have none at all.

the thing is if we keep winning Ramsey and Hargreaves will be gone those guys will probably not make it past 7 which is about where we are now and yes I would take Hargreaves over Elliott but he will be gone and Ramsey I like but he dips his head to much while tackling(like Elam) I still think pass rush should be option 1

I believe the Ravens will have 5 or 6 wins and pick in the top 10. The top prospects at our positions of need will be gone but we'll get a top 10 pick and 4 top 100s.

Mock drafts this early in the year tend to be off compared to draft day. I personally wouldn't consider him a lock at this point. I mean the 2013 draft had some solid RBs, some could argue that Carlos Hyde and Jeremy Hill should have been first round picks. I think Matt Miller said this and it was something I agree with, five years ago, Jeremy Hill likely would have been a top 10 pick. I don't think Elliot is going into the top 15, I'd say he could go into the 21-32 range, but I wouldn't consider him a lock at all. In fact, if we selected him in the top 10, I would go mad.

Carlos Hyde also went to Ohio St and Elliott is better I with every game. Still I think pass rusher is the biggest need

Going to Tech, I've seen quite a bit of Boyd. He ALWAYS gives Tech fits, even though Tech is routinely ranked in the top 5 defenses.

He's just so silky smooth as a route runner, he's got good size, and he can attack the ball. Not as physical as Treadwell, but far more of a technician

I like Boyd like. I have seen where he has slid due to off the field stuff saw some early mid 2nd round. Treadwell is a beast I think Boyd is probably more likely just due to the fact we need pass rush bad

I don't think both Hargreaves and Ramsey go into the top 7. Maybe one of them make it there, but no both. I think if we remain in the top ten outside of the top 7, then theres a solid chance either of them are there for us.

we will draft 10-12,, WR or trade back and get that rb Elliott out of Ohio

Yeah - that's my prediction in terms of where we will draft. I think we're a good enough team to get a few more wins, but flawed enough to still drop a few as well. I'd anticipate a split 4-4 to finish, giving us a 6-10 record. There are a lot of other bad teams ... so that isn't going to be top ten.

As far as who we go for ... I'm not as up on the college pipeline as a lot of you are. If there is anyone at either the CB, FS or OLB position who we can claim is BPA - that's what we're going to draft.

Even if we split and wind up 6-10, we're still more than likely picking to ten. Looking at previous drafts and teams this year 6-10 has been almost a definite top ten pick

Elliott 470 rushes for 3270 yards 33TDs 7.0 average 54 catches 405 yards 1TD Gley 510 carries 3285 yards 36TDs average 6.4 per carry65 catches 615 yards 6TDs just saying SEC bias always its much closer than you think

because stats tell the whole story and the team/system/circumstances mean nothing.

Gurley vs Alabama 23 carries for 122 2TDs Elliott 20 for 230 2TDs

forsett vs NO 2014: 22 carries for 182 yards, 8.3 avg

leveon bell vs NO 2014: 21 carries for 95 yards, 4.5 avg.

i guess forsett is better than leveon bell.

i would even take nassib, ogbah, ifedi, and doctson over him, and thats just off the top of my head, 2nd round guys.

i worry about him dealing with press coverage, he looks a bit frail, but ill admit i havent watched a ton on him. i do like boyd and i want anyone getting any ideas that im calling him a bum, but i like treadwell and doctson more than him by quite a bit, and if mike williams can return from his injury im also a huge fan of his

I wouldn't fret over it too much, personally. He's not exactly a real big guy or someone who will outmuscle you, much like Treadwell, but he's got excellent footwork. I think if he can bulk up just a bit, he's already lightyears ahead of most rookies with his route running and footwork.

I'm a big fan of Mike Williams, too, and I'm also a big fan of Mike Thomas. I haven't seen too much of Doctson, but many scouts have called him their top receiver. This could be a fairly dynamite draft for receivers in the first two rounds.

this draft has very weak top end talent but the middle is absolutely loaded. i dont think there is anyone in this draft anywhere close to amari cooper/odb levels, but there seems to be a ton of jordan matthews/jarvis landry caliber guys, guys that look like they are almost failsafe high floor guys, the problem is that many of the wr's dont have a very impressive ceiling.

my sleeper wr is still travin dural, hes extremely explosive with reliable hands and knows how to use his speed, he gains separation with ease in college and it wouldnt take much coaching up to get him to separate easily in the NFL, i think hes a stud deep threat and will be more than serviceable everywhere else. with a 3rd round grade and with us picking high, as long as he doesnt fly up boards, i think we could find a top shelf #2 in him with a 3rd round pick.

Forgot to mention this, but I think one things working in Boyd's favor is he's used extensively on screen passes because he's so shifty in the open field. What does Trestman love to use? Screen passes.

I think he may go higher then round three but depends on combine stats.  I'd pay close attention to the receiver from the U. Stacey Coley is my sleeper pick. He has great ball skills in the open field and is quick as well as fast. He seems to have 2 extra gears. And body control is very good and plays tough like bolding, I'm inclined to be believe that Ozzie will snatch a RB in the second round and my guess would be Fournette/Henry. Best player available currently seems to be one of those two. If the draft follows its recent trend then RB wouldn't be a top priority for many teams - excluding the Cowgirls. Beast mode ala Gurly will be served early in the second round. Forsett will be in the fold and Tali will be supplanted for Henry. They certainly need to be able to pound that rock when Forsett struggles. Right now I'm going with Ramsey/Hargreaves in the first. Henry in the second and Coley in the third with maneuvering.  Offensively I would say that's pretty potent and would take the pressure of whomever was drafted. Our version of Gurly certainly exist and if we don't take receiver because best player available I hope they select Henry.

Can he run the full route tree or is he a systems guy, with that being his primary skill set as far as getting open. Don't get me wrong cause I'd love that selection as well but don't know much about him other his highlight reels. Who does run the full tree in this years draft?

Boyd is probably this year's top route runner.

Who's your sleeper? Other then the one's mentioned.

I have to be honest- I don't know a whole lot of prospects other than the top ones that are mentioned. I don't tend to watch tends of prospects, just teams, until the season is over and we know who has declared.

Okay, I can respect that ! If you go to Youtube it often advances into players that other viewers have watched and many names appear that we tend to forget or have never heard of because of the teams/conference we most frequently watch. I know highlight reels are a small snippet but you can see examples of how they maybe effective or not. I'm looking for file footage on the internet other then YT as well.

DraftBreakdown.com is always a good place to go for full game snippets. Sometimes they'll cut it to only when a player was truly involved and sometimes they'll do a full offensive or defensive game. It just depends, but it's an awesome site.

Right now, according to Matt Miller, the strengths lie in safety, linebacker, and defensive tackle, and the weaknesses are quarterback, cornerback, and wide receiver.

First year in a long time where I actually like a lot of the safeties.

I would definitely agree it's a very strong safety class. I'd be thrilled to go someone like Bosa and then get... shoot, the one from Clemson... what's his name...

Thanks for the insight, it's much appreciated. On both post replies. I am checking that out before the games come on and during the week.

Jayron Kearse.  I'm so curious to see what is done with him.  He's such a large man but he moves so incredibly well for that size.

Responding to the thread title, those headlines on the site's news page (I call those articles junk food lol) have me worried that we might actually win some games down the stretch and spoil our draft position.

Jaguars

Rams

Browns

Dolphins

Seahawks

Chiefs

Steelers

Bengals

We could win against just about any of these teams. Maybe not 50/50 chance for each one, but I wouldn't be surprised if we go 5-3 and get a pick in the mid-teens.

Two of those teams, the Jags and Chiefs, are our main competition for those high draft spots, and we face them at home.

/if we do start winning, I hope we at least get to .500 to make it worth it
